I have twenty-two days of class left and one day of finals. I don't want this year to end...
And I have so much homework that it's not even funny.

Why can't my neighbours learn to be not retarded? They set the fire alarm off at 3am yet again. That's the fifth time in under three weeks.

I can sympathize, I remember when that used to happen. Why can't people understand that it's not funny, and being drunk off your gourd so you bang the alarm or decide to use the fire extinguisher in a horrible mess which sets the alarm off, or smoking inside, are stupid things to do?
Anyway, I just need to motivate myself to get everything done I need to to graduate. I hate being a procrastinator.

I used to live in a building where that happened all the time. Annoying, isn't it?

Annoying is a vast understatement. If it happens again this week it'll take a lot to stop me hunting down the culprit and killing them.

People around here manage to get away with smoking inside... I think it has something to do with a plastic bag duct-taped over the fire alarm.
This dorm is pretty quiet, with the exception of rowdy drunks on Friday night.
I have a hideous amount of homework to do, and what am I doing? Writing a fic from a particularly severe plot bunny bite...

I am so very close to killing my neighbours and eating their kidneys. It was the fire alarm last night, it was them making constant noise from 3am till 4:15am. It's now 6:45am and I haven't slept, nor will I until bedtime tonight as I have things to do today.

Aw. Yeah, it's getting to be that time. I have so much work to do and I don't feel like doing any of it. And noisy neighbors don't help.
Also, my favorite professor passed away this morning. :/ Sucky day is suck.

Wow, Emilie, I'm sorry.
mousse, this is justifiable homicide right now. Feel free to kill your neighbors. I've faced the same dilemna when people have loud arguments at 3 am, and our walls are thin.

I was wondering if I can ask you all a favor. I am taking a grad class called Star Wars: A Complete Saga? and we are nearing the end and I chose fan fiction as my final paper topic. I was wondering if you could all explain to me your fascination with fan fiction? Especially
Star Wars? Your experience with it? When and how or do you share it? What other hobbies you find interesting other than fan fiction? And mabye a little more about yourselves? Thanks in advance for your anticipated participation!!

I think writing fan fiction is great cos you get to really connect with the characters you love so much. You get to decide what will happen to them in your story. If you didn't like the way something turned out in the movies or books, you can change it! I like reading fan fic cos it seems as if the character's stories never end. Someone always has a new story to tell or something to add to what we already know and love. Also in fan fic, the characters are able to be properly fleshed out and developed, which, in my opinion, doesn't really happen in the movies.
That's my take on it at least. Hope that helps a bit!

What a question! Why oh why did I check this site before going to class. *headdesk* I'm sure all of us could go on for hours...
First, I would recommend posting this in its own thread. I'm pretty sure you'll get a phenomenal response from all these passionate people, many of whom don't hang out in this thread, and it will be from a much wider demographic.
I love fanfiction for so many reasons. The simplest, I suppose, is that it's fun. I think writing is meant to be an act of community, and it's not something you generally find. People who write original fiction are often lonely in it, keeping it to themselves or getting a few others to read it--which is always sort of awkward. Here, it's not that way. Here, we read and write and are read, and there's this constant flow of communication and critique and friendships forming and ideas all over the place. We're part of something. And I think it's a thing worth hanging onto, even when DRL rears its ugly head. *cough* (yes, I'm a hypocrite, but I'm coming back this summer I swear!) So yes, the community is a big part of it. People want to be understand, to find resonance in another human being. Here, we meet other writers, and also other Star Wars fanatics. Where else? It's so wonderful for people to 'get it' without any preliminaries at all.
Besides the social bit, the writing itself is heady, addicting. There are writers in fanfiction of every caliber imaginable. Some should be published. Others actually are. Some really need grammar lessons. What we all have in common is that we're doing it because we love it. Yes, fanfic is unspeakably nerdy, but when we hit that 'flow', when we're pounding away at the keyboard or staring off into space while the perfect plot evolves, when the writer in us is shouting yes! This is good storytelling!, what is 'nerdy'? The word has no meaning. Nothing matters except the deep realization that something is being created, something of worth. That feeling is seriously habit-forming.
I can't really explain why I gravitate to Star Wars. I've had something of a life-long fascination with the franchise, years even before I saw the movies at 14. When I did, there was no going back. Something about the story, the setting, the characters, captured me in a very visceral way. Before I even knew that fanfic existed I was writing my own missing scenes and what-ifs. I am a writer, and anything I care about with any intensity will eventually make it on paper. I discovered fanfiction by accident and almost immediately fell in love with the hobby. This is my place. I belong here.
Sometimes I wish I was drawn to more conventional avenues of storytelling, especially when my parents nag me to write something 'of my own' and my friends ask me what I'm writing and I have nothing to show. Though it shouldn't be, writing really is lonely. Even when it's not. Outside of cyberspace, there is no one who 'gets' my passion, who understands. This one thing I have discovered, however, in the last three years of my life. You have to write what's inside you. What drives you, whatever it is that ignites that addicting spark of creativity for you. If not, if you're writing for any other reason, it's a lie--and for a writer, the most immoral of all acts is to take the good and true gift of words and twist it into something hollow, without life. We write what we love. We love Star Wars. It's as simple as that.
Other hobbies? I like to read. Science fiction, sure, but also nonfiction, political thrillers, historical fiction, modern American lit, religious texts, and pretty much anything you can think of. Guitar Hero. Hanging out with friends. Procrastination. Pretty normal stuff, I guess.
Awesome class! I hope you do well in it.
