OK, so the last two weeks have been utterly hectic with two deadlines on the same day, so lots of rushing to get work done, lots of stress, lots of panic, lots of other stuff as well, but I got it done and handed in on time. I've now got one piece of coursework to go. The only problem is that I need a file from the lecturer, this file is supposedly somewhere that the students can access but I can't find it anywhere. I emailed the lecturer yesterday at about 4pm and it's now 3pm and still no reply from him. I am not amused.

The fire alarm went off five times in one hour last night.
Also, I'm hating my final piece of coursework, it just doesn't want to work.

Uggg... that bites Moose!
That happened all the time when I live in university housing, and come to think of it... my apartments after that too! I guess there is something to be said for moving back in with the parents!
I'm sorry your last coursework isn't cooperating! Just think... it's almost over!!

Another college student here, though based on some of the listed ages I see, I'm on average 10 years older than the rest of you, so I probably have a slightly different view on the subject. Currently on break in between classes, but the first part of next month, I'll be back in class (4000-level history). Eagerly looking forward to it.
I'm curious: do those of you who are active fanfic writers find that essays are easier for you than the general populace? The best part about being a history major like me is that I often have essay tests, and I thrive on the written word...

Hi, Rigil_Kent!
Yes, I find that most people I know HATE essay tests and avoid them at all cost! I love them, unfortunately my major doesn't really use essays, or at least my professors don't. I would much rather write all I know on a subject than take a multiple choice or worse a True/False test!

Heh, I do find that essays are easier when you write fanfic. I also found it funny when I was in a creative writing class, the final was a 3,000 word short story. We had about 1.5 weeks to do it and someone complained. I chuckled and said that I was able to write a chapter about that long in one day, once.

I guess I can post here now - as of July 2nd I am officially back in university after all.

Definitely. In my past schooling life I was chosen more than once to write the response for a group project.
And for me it's not just essays which seem to come easier, I see so much really bad grammar, spelling, etc at work that it just boggles my mind. The most eloquent people in person come off as almost illiterate when you get an email from them. I have often been told that I write 'pretty' and 'almost stories' when I send emails. My response is 'no, I just write properly'.

I don't believe that, as of noon yesterday, I am a sophomore. This year went by too fast. I really want it to be August 24 or so just so I can get my high-speed internet back! Dial-up is painful.

I sympathize, SithGirl. I'll be headed into my junior year next semester; can't believe it's going so fast.
As for the question, yes, I find that I have far less trouble with essays and papers than with multiple choice tests (which are evil incarnate, as are True/False questions). I actually found myself using my fanfic.net account to tally up how many words I had written for fanfic so far as a way to gauge how much I would have to write for a paper.

Oh yes. Which is why being a (former) Chem major sucks/sucked.
I thought that taking a leave of absence would be more relaxing. So far, it's been even more hectic, because I have to decide what my new major is going to be, research universities and decide if I want to switch to another University or not. Oh, and fill out my disability paperwork. Disability paperwork is so freaking annoying. *grumbles about German Uni system and general German way of taking forever to get simple tasks done*

Essays are actually harder for me than math and science, which is why I'm majoring in engineering. It's because I compulsively try to do awesome on everything I write, while I am morally at peace with doing the minimum for the grade in Calculus. Therefore, writing an essay takes forever and drains my soul and is just too much work!

I learned to write in high school, which meant turning out ten pages of verbiage once a month. Now I'm a science major and I don't know how to write science papers. Sooner or later I'll learn.

All the talk in the Social thread about going to college, I think this thread needs a big bump!
So who is ready to go back? (Or to go for the first time?)
I start back at the end of this month and then it is 15 short (or long) weeks till I'm completely done!!!
I'm excited about my classes, they shouldn't be too bad! They promised us if we could make it through last semester we were home free!!

Either fifteen or fourteen days until I'm finally back where I belong, depending on what the Housing office says about getting my keys early. I'm supposed to be there early to help with orientation, but then they tried to change the date, and my travel plans are made... so this is going to be fun.
This has been a horrible summer. After a year at school, being back with my parents is just painful. I can't wait to be back at school!

I hear ya about the living with parents thing... I lived at college on my own (summers included) for 4 years... I then decided to switch to a university that is in my hometown and I have lived with my parents again for almost two years! Its about to kill me!!
I always loved moving in to the dorms early! It is so much easier than fighting the crowds!
