Interesting thread! happy

What is the most "AU" thing you've ever written?

Probably one of my older stories, All the Gifts I Have Been Given, in which Padmé joins Anakin after he becomes Vader. When the twins are born, Palpatine abruptly kills them - in front of the new parents, no less - just as Obi-Wan thought he would. Padmé becomes a bit of a mad recluse, withdrawing even from her husband, until a few years later when Vader finds a child, which turns out to be Mara Jade. Eventually, the girl is secretly trained by Vader and after Padmé is executed by Palpatine on a few trumped-up charges, she and Vader turn on him. Vader dies after killing Palpatine, and the government appoints Mara as Empress, since nearly everyone saw her as Vader's heir.

What do you consider "extreme" AU?

*grins* In the Force, all things are possible. wink

Extreme AU... probably something that is considered extremely rare. For example, pairing Anakin up with someone other than Padmé (something that isn't seen all that much). Perhaps my most favorite type of extreme AU would be Dark Padmé. You don't see it all that often, but when you do... hypnotized

How far from the canon is too far?

*glances over at her shelf of SW books and struggles to hold in a snarky comment about certain profic stuff*

Aside from that, I don't know if I've ever really seen anything that could be considered "too far" from canon. Like I said, anything's possible. wink

I have to agree with you about the profic, AngelQueen. *struggles mightily to hold back snarky comments*

And yes, it is exam time . . . sigh . . . .

What is the most "AU" thing you've ever written?

Spoilers for Point of No Return ahead:
In Point of No Return, it starts with Han and Luke "rescuing" Leia from 7 months of imprisonment at Vader's hand post-Bespin. She had been frozen in carbonite, then brainwashed into becoming a Sith. She immobilizes Luke, tries to kill Han, then does a complete change of heart once back in the Alliance. On her missions, however, people keep getting betrayed and killed, but they figure it's because of the missions' dangerous nature. They allow her to go to Endor, but then she and Luke get captured by Vader at Endor. It turns out Leia's still a Sith and has betrayed the Alliance Fleet and the mission, thus killing Han and Chewie. The Alliance loses Endor and flees for its collective life. Luke is killed by Vader. Vader escapes with Leia, who then kills him. She returns to the Alliance and is shot at first sight for treason. Before she dies, she manages to divulge the code for some encrypted files that allow the Alliance to destroy the Death Star and the Emperor. She then dies. The Alliance wins.

What do you consider "extreme" AU?

Anything that takes so many risks that you can't be sure that it can be considered in-character, but you keep it in-character anyway.

How far from the canon is too far?

Nothing is, as well as it's well-written.

All right, if we can count crossovers, then definitely Three New Sailor Senshi.

Spoilers:

Jaina and Zekk marry. Jag's indirectly killed by Zekk. Wedge and Wes die over Endor on the Headquarters Frigate while being attacked by the Charon. Korriban, Talus, Tralus, Bakur and Endor all get destroyed. Luke and Mara have a daughter named Lyria. Kam dies. Tionne's the result of an experiment by some dude named Norrick...

And that's off the top of my head, too.

What is the most AU thing you have ever written?

I have several notebooks at home filed with stuff that is so AU that I forgot that there even was an accepted chronology. Stuff like forgetting what the Clone Wars were about, not really having an NJO, and what if Palpatine retired as Emperor and gave up the Dark SIde?

What do you consider extreme AU?

I don't know, how AU cna you imagine?

How far from canon is too far?

What canon? But seriously, I don't really think that htere is a limit. It's AU, it's as far away from canon as you could possibly think.

My most AU thing would be a current fic in which Leia crashes on a mission, loses her memory, is captured by Imperial Intelligence and, at Vader's prompting, is married to an Intelligence officer, becomes pregnant and is convinced that the Alliance is the enemy. Meanwhile, Luke and Han find her and drag her back to the Alliance.

My AU isn't finished yet, and it isn't going to portray the AU perse, but what happens when AU characters come to canon universe, and the consequences of their presence (spelling?). Which of course would change the canon universe into an AU... go figure.

What do you consider extreme AU?

An example would be that Darth Sidious (Palpatine is part of the Rebel Alliance fighting against evil!Luke as emperor or something like that (complete role reversal).

How far from canon is too far?

As far as too far goes, I would imagine total character OOCness, by that I mean total personality change. ie Palpatine not power hungry, Luke is a coward, Leia is vain, that sort of thing. Or maybe what they are trying to do with Cade Skywalker in 140 years later (that just isn't right!) Writing a fic a long long time later where everything the Movie Canon characters fought for would crash down and their struggles futile is too far.

My Humble Opinion.

Mu

Also blind, and Vader knows about Leia before the twins even know they are twins. Don't forget those two little things.

Hey, Ish.

That Imperial Leia sounds interesting, what's the name of the fic? I want to check it out.

Thanks

Hi, I write AU's and so, decided to answer these Questions.

What is the most "AU" thing you've written?

My Ilum Series. I'm currently working on Power of Ilum, a major AU that places both Jedi and Sith against a new foe that is quite different from the usual Star Wars villain. There was also Legend of Ilum which was completely different and read more like a fantasy story. My readers liked it very much, but it was different.
What do you consider "extreme" AU?
Something that places Star Wars characters in totally different situations than usual. Perhaps there is a cast of OC's that stems far away from the template of Star Wars Characters.

How far from the cannon is too far?

I make it a rule to start AU's in the cannon universe and slowly change things and shape them into what I want. Something that is in no way connected at all to Star Wars might be a little too far. Though, I wouldn't have too much of a problem if it is a good piece of writing.

I'd be really interested in knowing what type of AU people like reading? Anyone care to share?

I like those AU's that stem away from the norm of Star Wars. If you have characters that seem like they're from a Fantasy story or Epic, I love it. For example, the villain of most of my AU's is actually an evil Dragon. No joke. wink

What draws you in first, the characters involved, the plot, or the era its set in?

The Characters and then the plot.
I usually work with the same cast. Usually in the Saga Era. Movie characters like Anakin, Dooku, Palpatine, Obi-wan and Yoda.
