Thank you to Irish Jedi Jade for interviewing Myriad_Daydreams

Myriad_Daydreams is famous on the Beyond board for her stunning stories starring Luke, Mara and Ben.

1) How did you first become introduced to Star Wars in general and then to TFN

A long time ago, in living room far, far away… my dad was convinced I should see this movie called “Star Wars”. At the age of 6, I was not interested. Not only did my father confuse me by trying to explain to me the phenomenon of making 4,5, and 6 first, but also told me that I would LOVE it. Needless to say I was bored out of my mind. The only part I liked was the droids, and the battle at the end seemed to last forever. For the next 7 years I stayed blissfully ignorant, declaring myself anti-Star Wars.

Now jump forward to 6th grade and a certain geeky best friend of mine who kept begging me to see Star Wars. I was irked and repeatedly told her I had already seen and disliked it. One Friday night I decided to watch the darn movie, just so I could prove to her it was true and she could stop bugging me. Little did I know this movie would change my life permanently. As the credits for A New Hope rolled across the screen for the second time in my life, I was not bored or annoyed… I was obsessed! By the end of that weekend I had watched ANH twice, ESB twice, and ROTJ three times. It was paradise from then on. (May I also note I took my best friend to see ROTS when it came out, and I paid for our tickets as thanks and apology)

As for TFN… I was first a resident of Fanfiction.Net *cringe* After more than a year at FFN where I read bad Siriwan and every so often some amazing L/M, a couple Google searches for Luke/Mara fics brought me to TFN on various times, but I found the website so confusing I had no idea how to work it or even find it again. After awhile I found the SRJS index and bookmarked it for safekeeping. Almost a full year later I finally worked up the courage to register… and here I am to stay!

2) What do you do in RL?

My name is Mara Jade Skywalker and I am married to the wonderful Luke Skywalker. Some of my hobbies include weapon collecting, sparring with my husband, and on the rare occasion I save everyone in the galaxy from the brink of death. Oh, and I have a great body and am completely in shape.

… maybe not. tongue

I don’t like to share much of my personal life on the Internet, but I’ll share a bit. I am a 100% proud resident of the USA from an area that is cold enough for feet of snow, but still has wonderfully sunny summers wink There is one thing in my life (other than Star Wars) I can say is my one true passion: theatre. I am a COMPLETE drama/musical/stage crew geek grin There is no place I feel more at home then backstage behind the curtains, and nothing I love more than the rush of opening night. When I’m not onstage or writing fanfic, I also enjoy capturing/editing film and watching movies.

And I love to talk—I apologize in advance if this interview bores you blush

3) Who is your favorite character? Or three or five or whatever!

From the movies, I think just about ALL the characters are my favorite! Since that’s a pretty cheap answer, I guess I’ll have to say Luke Skywalker. Whether movie or EU, there is no character I find more intriguing and enjoyable than this farmboy-turned-Jedi-hero.

Second place would probably go to the other heroes of the OT Leia and Han, as well as my favorite character to write: Mara Jade. I also have a fondness for obscure minor characters such as Taun We and Shaak Ti.

4) How does a fic generally come about? Do you brainstorm for hours or do your ideas just come to you? Then how does the writing process work for you?

Well, most of my ideas are completely random plot bunnies. I’ll be vacuuming the living room or brushing my teeth, and BAM an idea will come to me! Most of them will never get written, but as long as I write down the idea the possibility is there. In terms of actually getting the words down, that is the tricky part.

Some say the muse is an excuse for procrastination, and I am a perfect example of that. I am an extremely nit-picky person when it comes to my writings, I am definitely my own worst critic. Sometimes I will spend hours with a barely started story in front of me while I sift through old SJRS stories for “research”. Often time fics are like therapy for me also. “Can’t Say Goodbye” was a great way to vent after reading LOTF, and some of my more poignant fics are ways to express my not-so-great days in the form of writing. Writing is a very individual thing, and you can tell a lot about a person from their writing technique. Mine would definitely be spur of the moment, interchanged with some deep thinking and planning.

5) You are padawan to divapilot; how do you like the “Master/Padawan” relationship, and how has it helped you to grow?

I love it! Diva is pure awesome, and I have learned so much from being her padawan. I think every writer should have a beta at some point, there is SO much in your own writings that you miss or didn’t realize you were doing. Sometimes it just takes one other perspective to notice something. I don’t know what I’d do if diva hadn’t come along and smacked some sense into me. It’s also nice to have a master as someone to talk to—its amazing to find out what you have in common with people you have never met!

6) What is your favorite genre to write? Mush, angst, drama…? What do you feel you are best and worst at?

I think many of you who read my drabble thread know my answer to this: angst! It’s not that I’m a sadistic creep... no, really! tongue Out of the many range of emotions I find human struggle and grief to be the most compelling to express in writing. There are so many facets of angst that are unique to each persona, and when written by a truly talented writer can be fascinating and eye opening. Writing angst is also a way of venting my RL feelings and trying to expand on what canon has given us.

I try my hand at mush sometimes, but most of the time I think it is dreadful. (I know Irish, I know! I should write it more often!) Overall I think long stories are my weakness—I find it hard to keep events flowing, and I am so nit picky!

7) “Can’t Say Goodbye” was one of your first fics you posted, and it is a truly amazing piece—so much raw emotion. How did that story come about?

Why thank you blush That fic was originally a way to vent my emotions after reading LOTF Sacrifice. I find writing to be very therapeutic. About a week after reading Sacrifice I sat at my kitchen table, ice cream in hand, feeling sorry for Luke, Ben, and myself. My mind drifted to the scene where Luke sees Mara’s body, and I attacked my pink notebook violently. Hours later I had the original version of what came to be “Can’t Say Goodbye”. Considering it’s my longest and most detailed oneshot (or close to it) I am very proud of it.

8) Recently, you participated in the UCD2. How did you like it, and how did writing drabbles help you to grow as a writer?

Let me first go on record by saying that drabbles can do wonders for a writer. I never knew the depth of words and my limits as a writer before writing drabbles. “A Myriad of Possibilities’ is without a doubt my favorite fic that I have written. I enjoyed having to work on a set of themes each week to keep my muse in shape, and also the range of genres and characters to use.

9) Currently you’re writing a story with Irish_Jedi_Jade titled “Altered Vision, Truth Unseen.” Anything about it you’d like to share? How do you like working with another TFN’er on something?

I absolutely LOVE collaborating on the story! And not just because my co-writer is one of the nicest, sweetest people I have ever met, but I love taking turns writing something. Being a oneshot writer I would never have the courage to write something so epic and dramatic alone. It is an adjustment in many ways but overall I love it! What started out as MMM brainstorming became this huge, multi-chap extraordinaire! I’d love to co-write with her in the future, and anyone else on TF.N who is willing! PM away! wink

10) Last, the infamous question! If you could fly anywhere and meet anyone off of TFN, who would it be…or could you narrow it down to just one?

I hate to pick just one! Well if I have to, I would say Irish_Jedi_Jade. Who knew that two ladies on complete opposite ends of the continent could have SO much in common! I’ve never laughed on IM with someone so much, nor have I been so grateful to have someone there to talk to. She is as good a friend as any of my RL friends will ever be. If any of you don’t know this girl, you should drop her a PM, you’re guaranteed a smile for the day happy

If I could meet more than one TFN’er, I would definitely want to meet my master divapilot. She is so amazing, and I’d love to chat about writing, theatre, and living on the East Coast over lunch. I’m honored to consider her my friend. hugs Oh, and I’d love to meet Jade_eyes in person! We could sit around eating chocolate and crying our eyes out at sappy movies and write L/M mush all day! Heck, I’d take the whole SJRS out for lunch if I could, but now I’m abusing the question aren’t I… wink

What a great interview! I think that being a theater geek helps as a writer - I bet you often find yourself "blocking" scenes to set up your fics.

Thank you so much for the kind references to me. You are a terrific writer. I'm just catching the misplaced commas. wink
