Launching a Round Robin: Age of Heroes
It's been quite awhile since I've done any writing lol, but I'm game to. The forums have changed quite a bit since I was last around much, so if this is the wrong forum I apologise to the Mods! In essence, I'm wanting to create a round-robin (partly because I don't have the time to write a full story myself). The basic premise is pure science-fantasy lol - I want the eras to meet, in full apocalyptic fury. The idea is this:
Millennia ago, an alien race - powerful in the Force - ruled the GFFA. Their technology was spectacular, and they created their own galactic homeworlds using the Centerpoint Station. However, an uprising against this race droven them back (forcing them to create two black hole clusters, the Maw and the Chiss Redoubt), until they eventually escaped through their science. They believed that the Force's will for them was extinction; so they removed themselves from the Force's will altogether, that is, they left time, entering a timeless void where they could rebuild their resources.
The race has been forgotten in the mists of time, although some Killik legends mention them (but the Killik legends are hardly reliable lol). Then, in 'Betrayal', the Anakin Solo droid observed many systems. His knowledge of some of the systems was quite inaccurate, as we well know, and he unintentionally sent a signal to the race that it is time for them to return. So return they do.
Scouting the century before the signal, the aliens discover a century of warfare. The Clone Wars, the Rebellion, Dark Empire, Thrawn, the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, and still more now. They see this time as vulnerable. However, this is also the age of heroes (the title of the RR), and so they determine to take these heroes out of time. The timeline will collapse without them, as they well know. For the sake of continuity, the aliens take the following Jedi:
From the 'Legacy' era:
Luke Skywalker
Jacen Solo
Ben Skywalker
Leia Organa Solo
From the 'NJO' era:
Jaina Solo (DJ)
Alema Rar (SbS)
Anakin Solo (EoV)
Tahiri Veila (EoV)
From the New Republic era:
Kyp Durron (post-JAT)
From the Rebellion:
Han Solo
Chewbacca
From the Clone Wars:
Obi-Wan Kenobi (RotS)
Yoda (Dark Rendezvous)
Whie
Scout (these two happen to be with Yoda)
Mace Windu (Shatterpoint)
In essence, the story would be divided into three parts. The first part would alternate chapters between the progression of history without the heroes and the meeting of the different heroes on a world outside time, where they encounter the aliens. (Obviously the aliens need to be more fleshed-out, but while I could do that, I'd rather it was made up between the different authors, so as to truly be a 'group' effort.) The second part features the Jedi returned in the equivalent of the 'Legacy' era, where they must deal with a Galaxy very different - a Galaxy wracked with war, where the Yuuzhan Vong have settled in a portion, while the Empire hammers them relentlessly - and billions die with every week of continuing warfare. Nom Anor has reignited the spark of rebellion, and Palpatine faces enemies on every front. The heroes arrive just as Palpatine launches the Coruscant blackmail scheme mentioned in EL - where he would basically cut off the planet's air, killing everyone on the world. Understandably, the heroes have one huge amount to deal with - including increasing dissension, as Jacen Solo, of course, is becoming far too interested in the Sith lore.
The third part would be as the heroes emerge victorious, and the aliens strike once again. Ultimately, of course, the timeline has been rendered totally chaotic by all the aliens' meddling. The Force is willing their destruction, and they cannot stave it off any longer. Their power source, the photon crystal, is used to set the timeline back to rights; personally, I'd like it to be Yoda, knowing what he is signing himself up to in doing this, but committed nonetheless. Or possibly Anakin Solo.
I've already got interest from Em and possibly Jedi_Johnson; anyone else interested? As you can all tell, I still rather like epics...

Count me in. I'm in about the same boat where I can't write a full out long story on my own, but a RR would be great.

Very interesting. WOuld you mind including Allana and Tenel ka as well? The queen of 63 worlds and the only Solo grandchild should have some pretty good roles. I hope you don't mind the crit, but some people might mistake this for Yobi's latest epic, which has the same title and is wildly popular on BYTS.

Ack! I didn't realize we were doing Legacy era characters, Tom. I really, really, really, REALLY am opposed to having to expose myself to that storyline. I boycotted the EU shortly after Anakin Solo died and I haven't read an EU book since; ergo, my EU ends with
Visions of the Future
. *awkward* I'm reaaaaaaaaaly sorry! If there's a way around this I'd love to find it; maybe I could just write characters not from that era? Sadly, that would mean not writing Luke...

NJO and more specfically EU is what I write best or rather wrote best. I think that would be what I would be best off working with. I wrote PT for a while, but it was so AU it didn't matter. So on my part the more I can stay away from PT stuff the better.
EDIT:
There is a benefit to missing the later EU stuff Em. It means you don't have to see Luke give Jacen free reign to do whatever he wants. I'm kinda torn with the Legacy era Jacen, although I like NJO Jacen starting with Traitor.

Ack! Again. Yeah, I've heard some of what happens, and what I've heard sounded so OOC that it didn't even register as Star Wars to me. And I'm iffy on Jacen as it is; I heart
my
Jacen (of the Jacen/Jysella 'ship), but he irks me to no END in the EU. Plus, Tenel Ka annoys the living daylights out of me. So I avoid the NJO and beyond like the plague.
I love writing EU if it's VotF or anytime before. I don't mean to cause problems! *is very sorry*

Hey theres no problem, between Dart and I bet the EU is covered. I know he's pretty knowledgable about it cause I see him in Lit all the time. Its nothing that can't be worked out. And I like your Jacen more than Legacy era Jacen too. I'll admit Jacen peaked for me in NJO. Legacy Jacen just seems wierd... probably casue it looks like the writers are trying to make him the next Sith.

I'm pretty sure I can write Obi-wan; I've not posted any stories with him but I have dabbled a bit in that time period. I'm very sad that Mara's not on the list; I can write TTT-era or HoT-era Mara better than anything else. I'm left kind of helpless with the rest, though, because I haven't read those books. I don't know if I could write Han and Chewie; I just don't have any experience there. *ponders*

Ahah, but that is where you are wrong. :-p I boycotted the EU after Anakin Solo died, therefore my EU ends with
Visions of the Future
. The Legacy series doesn't exist to me; the only person I 'ship Jacen with is Jysella Horn, therefore Allana was never born.
Tenel Ka irritated me when she was first invented. I really, really, really hope to avoid dealing with her altogether, plot-wise. That's not to say that she isn't allowed her fans; I'm just
intensely
not one of them.

I think Jycella's better with Anakin, but that's weird me. Or maybe Jaina/Valin, just for the sake of exploring the unexplored.

I always pair Valin with Myri Antilles. I don't like NJO!Jaina and in fanfic I usually just kill her off or have her go crazy, or else give her a huge personality makeover. And, being as I'm one of the three original Jacella authors, I'm a little biased towards that ship. I think Jysella and Jacen works better than Anakin/Jys would because Jysella is so headstrong. (Plus, I like Tahiri.) But...
this isn't what we're here for. Fun as this is, let's talk about this story! 'Ships aside, it should be a lot of fun! I love time travel stories!

Some good ideas, guys! Em; you needn't worry about not being familiar with some of the characters - that might actually be better, because you could do the 'strangeness' of the characters with which you're familiar meeting the characters you're not, and it might be really effective. Hmm, Tenel Ka and Allana... I'm reluctant with Allana especially, to be honest, as we don't know where things are going at all re: her. If someone had another prequels Jedi they'd like to throw in, then I'd be fine with Tenel Ka though. And I REALLY like the idea of a TTT Mara Jade thrown in, actually - perfect! Just right for the angst! Re: Luke as of the Legacy era, Em - in essence, you can have the delight of writing Luke as he should be, at peace with himself, confident and powerful, respected and commanding, a Jedi Grand Master seemingly an equal of Yoda. He and Yoda would be seen as equal. Altho' the debate over Mara would be a fun one between them, I bets!
Actually, let's also have Leia from the JAT, just before she becomes Chief of State - that way, it plays more to your strengths, Em, as it's pre-VotF. It also seems more appropriate for her to be 'taken' at the moment before she became a Galactic ruler.
Believe it or don't, Em, you might
like
'Betrayal'. It actually feels like Star Wars again. I definitely want the Jacen from that era, as I want the fun of having him fall - and the possibility of him being redeemed, maybe making Yoda believe that the future finally set in motion is the right one, because it is one in which redemption is made possible.
Nonetheless, there are eras that all of us prefer, and this RR would involve each of us identifying our strengths and using them. I think I could do Yoda well, for example, but Obi-Wan I wouldn't feel I could explore enough - although I'd love the fun of writing his 'interrupted' Mustafar confrontation, and exploring the grief and heartache he must have been feeling then. (I'm cruel, aren't I!) So the fact some ppl are less keen on certain eras isn't a problem at all imo!
Oh, and does anyone have an alternative title, as 'Age of Heroes' seems to be taken?
