Many Bothans died getting Death Star information to Mon Mothma.
Although tragic, their sacrifice was better than the alternative: Thousands and thousands of Gungans died getting Death Star information to Mon Mothma's cousin's receptionist's hairdresser.
Luke's dead tauntaun smelled really bad, inside and out.

New Discussion Question 7-07-08:
As a writer, is it challenging for you to stay within the PG rating established by the TOS? This is not an opportunity to bash the rules or the owner of this site, but an opportunity for dialogue about technique.
What processes do you go through to remain within the rules? Is it more of a subtle endeavor or do you find yourself leaving segments out of your story?

Usually, it is over the limit, rather than trying to fix it, I don't post here but take it to other sites. If it's part of a story that I'm working on, I might cut out the "problem areas", alert my readers that there is more but it's above PG and PM them with the "steamy" stuff if they request it and are over 18.
If it's violence that's the problem, I'll PM the mods with the post and let them decide whether it can be posted as such or has to be changed. If it does have to be changed, I may leave it as is on my website and change it here.
There are lots of other places to post higher-than-PG stories. Plus I also write slash (romantic and/or sexually intense) which isn't allowed here, anyway. There are sites specifically designed for that.

I have to be very, very careful sometimes. Like Diane said, it's not always sexual situations that bring up the TOS, sometimes it's violence. I've written some scenes where there is implied sexuality, implied violence, implied abuse. What I try to do is capture the emotional impact of those events, rather than describe the event itself.
Sometimes you don't need to see the blood to know it's there.

My stories rarely go over the PG rating, and if they do, I make sure there are disclaimers announcing a warning. Only once in Vol. II of my Mary Jane Skyler epic did I brush the edge of extreme violence. Hey, it was a torture scene conducted by the Russian mob on Earth. I toned down the "Soprano" elements. Other than that, I believe that there is no reason to go above the same rating system as the gave the movies - PG / PG-13.
**On another separate note - I am 38 years old today !!! 7/7/70! Get this, I saw the original Star Wars on my birthday in it's first year; yep, the date was 7/7/77 !!! Of course, I had seen it at least twice before that since it opened 5/25/77.
Now, since I will be 40 in 2 years, does that negate my membership in the - oh, wait. It's called the OVER 30 Writers Club..... . Nevermind.
