I feel out of place. For the most part, I've only written humans. The only non humans were the two famous droids.. Although I did add a cameo from a Twi'Lek.

That may change in my next epic.

I think I'm more comfortable with humans, well because I am one. I just have never really thought about writing anyone else. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm completly obsessed with jedi and Obi-wan Kenobi. I don't know.

Maybe I'll have to think more about writing someone who is not humanoid.

LukeAngel's story "Measure of a Man" has a very amusing Twi'lek named Nabrina'vida. She's a hoot. She can get away with saying what the others are thinking.

I also like the way PallasAthena wrote a Twi'lek in "Eluding Order 66" over in Saga. I like the way she showed how very different the cultural expectations were for this particular nonhuman without making the differences distracting to the story itself.

Edit because I forgot how to spell.

In terms of the PG ratings etc

To be perfectly honest I can't think of SW without that guidance. The violence thing isn't all that explicit, so I find it relatively easy to stay within that.

The sex thing is a bit pathetic in the bold George's world - see AOTC for the worst chat up lines in any galaxy. The poor man doesn't have a clue. mischief I kind of wanted the bold Anakin to sweep Padmé off her feet but had to sit in the theatre wondering how on earth Anakin managed to get that quality of lady after trying chat up lines that failed me when I was fourteen and desperate. The women were desperate as well.

"Sand? Sand? Beat it weirdo!"

The thing is - it's star wars. He nailed it all with the good/evil thing. We're hooked on that!

Basically I can see it if the odd *15* thing appears but anything over that and I'm not interested. I can see and read plenty more stuff in other places if I feel the need. I'd like a bit more leeway on the violence rather than the sex, although the lack of homosexual stuff is a bit weird at times but that is the rules.

Let's talk about non-human characters

This is the one thing that's keeping me here at present. Something I will be looking at once the Summer/Autumn (That's fall to you weirdos! laugh ) I'm interested in it all!

I, for one, do not think the problem was that the band was down.I think that the problem may have been
that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf.

New Discussion Question 7-21-08

Let's talk challenges. What challenges have you participated in that really sparked your creative juices? Do you like cleary defined parameters or more open challenges?

Is there a challenge that in hindisight you wish you'd participated in? What challenges changed or affected the way you write?

What kind of challenges would you like to see here on the Over #30 thread this fall?

I've only really participated in a couple of challenges. I don't know if any spark more creativity then any other. I think if the challenge is something you are really into, the muse will strike.

I like to be challenged and have the parameters be really tight. I think it really stretches your ability to write. Constraint of characters and such really doesn't have to make your writing any less.

I've written a couple of challenge fics and enjoyed them, although I don't know they spark my creativity any more than anything else. Having so little experience, I can't really say if I prefer them tightly defined or not.

Unfortunately, I don't imagine I will be taking part any any more in the near future, I simply have too much on my plate as it is - my current WIP, several others in the idea/planning stage, writing outside the SW universe, family, working full time, school, fall semester classes where I may actually be taking enough courses to be considered a full-time student (somebody smack me - I must be insane), etc... Anyway, you get the picture.

I love challenges, the more defined, the better. The hardest part for me as a writer is coming up with the IDEA. To have that provided for me is great!

What challenges changed or affected the way you write?

Participating in the drabble challenge changed my writing style for the worse! It took me a long time to get back to a more fluid style of writing.

I can't think of one particular challenged that sparked my creative juices. There were many that made me write outside my comfort zone and/or had me write something I would not have thought of writing, such as the challenges in the humor workshop AnakinsFavorite hosts. I like challenges in general be it clearly defined or open... though I don't particularly care for required words, as those who come up with those words usually choose a ridiculous selection which are obnoxiously high-brow (there are exceptions to the rule, of course).

As I have participated in the majority of the challenges on the board (minus the challenges that are in some of the character threads), there aren't any that I know of that I wish I'd taken up. In general, challenges have made me a better writer by expanding what I would normally have written.
