Hey all, I'm looking for some friendly discussion here. As I scroll through pages and pages of fan fic, I'm noticing a lot of it is teeny bopper, "Oh my gosh, Jaina should sooooo date Jag, not Zekk" crap. I kind of wish the TFN boards would break these threads down even further so I can read good, adult reading level fan fic, and not have to put my hip waders on to find it. Am I the only one who feels this way?
By the way, I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way. I'm not bashing anyone in particular, which is why I posted this here on the over 30 thread instead of in some of the actual threads of really bad fan fic. Like I said, I'm just looking for some friendly discussion.

5) Star Wars is important part of my life. Nothing can not be done. From blowing up space station size of small moon. To training a new generation of Jedi Knights.

I guess you like different kind of fics at different ages... But there haven't been much feedback lately for adult-themed fics (and I don't mean sex by that) so it's a little discouraging... :/

As long as we keep it friendly and it doesn't turn into bashing. Bashing will get us edited, and if it keeps up banned. No one wants to be banned. So instead, how about we talk about what we DO LIKE about fanfiction. Tastes and such.
And we really do need to stay away from attacking 'ships. We all have our favorite genres and what have you.

Finding a writer whose style you like will often lead you to other authors with similar tastes (usually their readers). People tend to follow specific groups of authors just because they can depend on finding what they like in terms of style/genre/characters.
However, that being said, some authors use a wide range of styles depending on what they are trying to get across so you might want to try a couple of their stories first before deciding if their style is for you. VaderLVR64 is a perfect example of this since she writes in a really wide story range - everything from humor to drama to crossovers to indepth highly-plotted fics - and she writes in all three eras. 
A lot of people like the 'teeny bopper' type stories and that's cool. Others don't. It's not that hard to click, read a little bit and click on something else if it's not to your taste.
You might want to start with the nominees of the last awards listing if you are having a hard time finding what you like. There are lots to choose from!

I guess my real point is, it's discouraging when poorly written fiction is getting a lot of attention because it's in that "teeny bopper" genre, and some well written, adult themed (and I'm not talking about sex either) fiction is getting little to no readers because it's a lot more in depth and doesn't revolve around the love life of the Star Wars galaxy. That's all I'm saying.

Well, I don't go into Beyond (it's scary!  ) but I don't find that to be true of Saga and Before. I think that adult, well-written pieces get lots of attention there.
These boards are certainly better than fanfiction.net in terms of quality.
I'd just ignore the ones you don't want to read and make sure to reply to the ones you like.

I know it's tough to build a reader base, and believe me, I do post in the fics I find entertaining, not only to let the writer know that they're doing a great job, but also to hopefully pull them and some of their readers to my story as well. I guess I'm just voicing my frustrations, that's all. As I said before, I'm not bashing anyone or any story individually. Just looking for sympathetic listeners in my own age bracket.

There are a lot of readers/writers who like the fast pace or light romance or silly humor that can sometimes be associated with 'teen' readers/writers. The stories tend to be easy and quick to read. More adult, heavily plotted stories need larger blocks of time and concentration that isn't always possible in RL. I know sometimes I'll read something very light just to cleanse my palate of longer, more intense stories.
But keep in mind that 'teen' doesn't mean age. Some of the best writers I know on these boards are still teenagers or young adults - JediNemesis and LuvEwan are two whose works are rich and very 'adult' and have been for a while. Heck, JediNemesis was writing adult work at 14 when she first showed up on the boards.

And Diane, what is this about not ever going into Beyond? Does this mean you aren't going to work on that story in Beyond any more???
I think the advice that's been given is excellent. When you are here for a while, you get to know writer's taste in genres. There are a number of writers who go for the action and swashbuckling adventures, and there are those who write relationship pieces, and there are writers who specialize in philosphical works. There is something for everyone.
 And be patient with the padawans. Learning they are, and wise they will become. Fanfic is a wonderful way for a novice writer to improve his/her skills.
