New Discussion Question 5-5-08
The last installment of the LOTF series, Invincible, is only a week away from it's release. So tell us, if YOU were the author how would you finish up this series? Love it or hate it, how would you tie all the ends together? Or perhaps, you would leave the series open for the next Star Wars authors to handle.
Remember, this is how YOU would write it-not speculation on what the actual book will contain. That would belong in the Literature forum along with other spoilers.

Okay, I'd leave the Admiral in charge of GA (she was co-ruler in the last book). I'd have Corellia break off completely from the Republic and make it stick. I'd also have several of the other systems follow in Corellia's wake and leave it at that. The Empire would make 'friends' with the Corellians so that there would be a balance of power. The Hapans would stay out of it. Allana would go back to Hapes.
On a more personal level, I'd have Zekk die doing something heroic. I'd have Tahiri pull a fast one on Jacen, betraying him to the Jedi and redeeming her actions, then have her go off and meditiate for a long, long time.
I'd have Jaina go after Jacen but let him live, Force-collaring or using the ysalsmiri (sp?) so that they could try and bring him back from the madness. Jag would help her.
I'd have Ben spit in Jacen's face and then have a long heart-to-heart talk with Luke.
Han and Leia would talk to Jacen but he would be nearly insane so that they'd have to go away, still unsure of what was the right thing to do.
The last line in the book would be Jacen screaming for revenge and then weeping as he realized what he'd done.
Anyway, that's what I would have liked to have seen....

My land girl...we sure do think alike!
I was thinking the same thing about the Admiral, I have a feeling she'll be teaming up with the Jedi at the end against Jacen. Interesting thought about the Corellians. It sounds like the perfect solution.
I also would also keep Jacen alive, kept in some kind of prison by the Jedi through Force-collaring or using the ysalsmiri as you mentioned.
Ben, I would write as forgiving Jacen, for his own sanity. Otherwise he'd become bitter. I'd also make Ben in charge of some kind of "stealth" investigative group within the Jedi.
It's time Jag and Jaina got together. Zekk would continue on in his own angst universe. Tahiri needs a good shrink, perhaps I'd have her abilities taken from her and booted out into the unknown galaxies.
Han and Leia would find peace through their granddaughter. TK would retain the Hapan throne.
And as corny as it seems, I'd write some way to bring Mara back. Yes, I would. I wouldn't leave Luke in despair the rest of his life. I'm still mad at the PTB about the whole Sacrifice thing.

"Hand me my lightsaber. It's the one that has bad MF written on it."
Newb in these parts and I didn't go all the way through this thread but here goes...
1) Age- (This is optional, but do remember you are in good company here.)
36
2) How long have you been writing or reading on these boards?
I registered back in '04, even though I'd been lurking long before then. My love for the franchise sort of died, though, 'cause I was growing more and more disenchanted with the direction the profic was taking (even more so now than before, but then, I don't read any of the profic for sanity's sake...)
3) Favorite genre, saga of SW?
Probably Beyond the Saga initially since the Zahn trilogy has sort of become Official in my mind and I'm interested in decent fics that pick up where he left off but don't go where the profic did. It's safe to say that I was ... disappointed with the direction of the profic, and that's only intensified as the books grew in number.
4) Favorite characters and why?
Difficult to say. If I had to say anyone, I'd probably say the OT and Zahn's version of Luke followed (or potentially tied with) Zahn's version of Mara. Han totally ruled in ANH & ESB, and as badly as he screws up, I still dug Ewan's Obi-Wan - he almost saved the prequels for me.
5) Why has SW always been so special to you?
I grew up with it. It was like a close friend and I was always able to turn to SW for fun.
6) Favorite tips or advice for writing.
Outlines are your friends.
What is your all time favorite scene in any SW movie and why?
The daddy bomb in ESB ... OMG. In 1980, I was 8 and that blew my fragile eggshell mind.
Which OT movie (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi) is your favorite? Why?
The Empire Strikes Back. It is, IMHO, the greatest movie of all time (though I'm a little honked off at that nonsensical addition George made where he changed Vader's pissy "Bring my shuttle" to "Inform my star destroyer of my arrival." Blech.) The story was great, the acting was great, the tension was phenom, and the good guys lost. It truly was the darkest of times for the Rebel Alliance ...
And then he gave us Ewoks. Sigh.
Part 1: What aspect of the SW movies (PT or OT)makes you uncomfortable?
Hate to say it, but the "romance" scenes between Anakin and Padme are (to me) so nauseatingly bad that they make my teeth hurt. At no time do I buy the great romance between them. I could totally buy Han and Leia in ESB (not so much ROTJ, but that's 'cause of how flawed that movie was to me), but Anakin and Padme ... ugh ...
Part 2: If you are an EU reader, what aspect of the novels made you uncomfortable?
Where to start? Dark Empire + KJA + Callista + NJO = me departing the profic entirely. And don't get me started on Mara's "death". Ugh. Did I miss the book in which she received a lobotomy?

Welcome Rigil!
I have to say that ESB is my favorite, too, for all the reasons you mentioned above.

Love the use of that expression, Rigil. Will we be seeing soon from you a crossover of Star Wars involving Serenity and the Big Damn Heroes?

Probably not. While I enjoy both franchises, I'm really not that big a fan of crossovers since it's nigh impossible to do them well. Though I do have to wonder if Mal was a Separatist 'cause River was clearly a Force adept of some sort.
No, the fic that I'm hoping to ultimately do will pick up after The Last Command and go wildly AU afterwards without any reborn emperors or body-jumping Jedi or superweapons of the week or Vong to be seen...

Or in other words, the way profic should have gone! Can't wait to see it Rigil!

AMEN!
And I don't blame you for not doing crossovers. I've only done one and it was so obscure that no one knew where it came from (does that count as a crossover?) Crossovers are hard to do without them seeming forced or hokey.

I'm also not a big fan of crossovers but I have seen incredibly good ones on the boards - Blue Sun Down by Darth_Marrs for SW/Firefly and VaderLVR64's one on SW/Dune - Tatooine Messiah.
