	~~Welcome to the Benella Index and Discussion Thread. A thread devoted to Ben Skywalker and Jysella Horn~~ Our goal is to provide an up-to-date index of fanfiction staring Ben Skywalker and Jysella Horn, have fun and interesting writing challenges and provide a place to discuss everything Benella. We also would like to encourage the posting of fan art by providing a place to do so. The ship of Ben and Jysella is rapidly growing in popularity and if you are among the expanding fan base we welcome you to stop by and check out the index. ~They are the future of the Galaxy—Let’s give them a future together.~ Submitting Stories: If you are an author and would like to have your story indexed in this thread, here are some guidelines that we ask you to follow: First—The story must have both Ben and Jysella as characters, they don’t need to be main characters, but they must have more than just a cameo appearance. They do not have to be romantically involved but neither of them can be involved with someone else, unless it is in a love triangle that will eventually result in a Ben/Jysella pairing. Second—All story information must be PM’ed to the sock in the following format: Title: Author: Link: (not hyperlinked, just cut and paste) Timeframe: Keywords: Summary: Status: (Complete/ WIP) When the status of a story changes, simply PM the sock with the title of the story, the author’s name and what the status change is. Current Challenge: Posting instructions for all Challenges: First—After writing a fic to fulfill the requirements of the challenge, PM the story information following the format above to the sock for it to be indexed. Remember to mention in the PM which challenge your story is in response to. All challenges will be numbered. Second—Post a link to your story in the Challenge Thread in the Beyond the Saga Forum Board. Again remember to mention the number of the Challenge since this will be a running thread. Third—Please mention the Challenge information either by rewriting it or by putting a link to the Index first page in the beginning of your fic. All Challenges will be open for at least six weeks. Finally and most importantly—Have Fun!!! Challenge #6 (December 12, 2007) In time for the holidays, let’s give Ben and Jys a winter vacation. Make it romantic, fun or furious. Your choice, but let’s have some fun. Requirements: Write a one-shot that takes Ben and Jys to a winter wonderland. They must do some sort of winter sport while there. Words: palm tree hot sun mistletoe Caroling Current Discussion Topic: Topic 1: Since so little is even mentioned of Jysella in Profic, what do you use as guidance for her characterization? How do you describe her appearance? Topic 2: Who do you think Jysella's Master would be? Would it be Corran or someone else and why do you think this? A lot of Fanfics make Jysella a healer, but why? And if she isn't a healer, what do you see her doing as a Jedi? Topic 3: Describe what you think Ben and Jysella's kids would be like. What do you think would look like? What would their pesonalities be like? Survey: Question 1: What's your name? Question 2: What is the number one reason you like this ship? Question 3: How did the ship gain your attention? (ie: who was it that introduced it to you?) Question 4: If there were challenges from this thread, would you do them? 	Challenge Archive Challenge #1: The grand opener: (September 17, 2006) Write a one or two poster fic that tells the story of Ben’s and Jysella’s first kiss and their acknowledgement of their mutual attraction. Make it either romantic, angsty, humorous or full of action. Requirements: Must contain these phrases: “You want me to do what?” “Come on, you know it will be fun.” …two days is too long… And words: Sunshine Darkness Creepy Safe Orange Welcome Challenge #2: (October 13, 2006) Write a 2000+ word one-shot about either a dark Ben or dark Jysella facing a light version of their counterpart (i.e. dark Ben facing light Jysella and vice versa.). Allegories and at least one flashback must be made to show a romantic past between the two, and that, deep down, both parties still care about the other. Can end tragically, happily, or somewhere in the middle. Words: At least one Star Wars curse word (damn or hell doesn’t count) Charging River Poem One of these ‘elemental’ words: maelstrom, tempest, inferno, whirlwind, or earthquake Challenge #3 (December 6, 2006) To keep in spirit with the Christmas season, specially-themed challenge here: We all know that experience where our loved one(s) want that gift and that gift only, but unfortunately, it's nowhere to be seen. Write a vignette or short story (maximum: six posts) in which Ben or Jysella must endure a rather memorable trip throughout a city, planet, or even the whole freaking galaxy to buy the perfect gift for their counterpart. Bonus points for having them both track down gifts for each other. Word limit: 30,000 words. Required sentences: "It's out of stock." "Ha! Good luck!" "Haha! I finally found it . . . oh wait." "Is it anywhere in the galaxy?" "You tried really hard and I appreciate that." Challenge #4 Valentine's Day Challenge (Januray 29, 2007) In honor of Valentine’s Day... Write a vignette or short story describing the events around Ben asking for Jysella’s hand in marriage. How do you think Corran would respond? It can be humorous or serious, but have fun… Requirements: Here are some considerations that you could use or you can come up with your own: 1. Ben tried to kill Corran in a battle while under Darth Jacen’s influence. 2. Jysella is pregnant. 3. Corran thinks Ben is too young. Phrases needed: "I never kiss and tell” never in a million years being a little harsh changing sides Words needed: Persevere Code Intervene Cold Hot Challenge #5 (May 17, 2007) Thanks to brodiew we have a new challenge: Perhaps something with a romantic interlude? All very TOS friendly of course? Why don't we have the two Jedi, married and parents at this point, have an arguement regarding the child or children that actually sparks a passion that has previous been missing from the realtionship. Requirements: There are no other requirements than to have fun. We need more Benella on the boards. (ie: who was it that introduced it to you?) Actually I was writing a Ben/Tahiri fic, and every time I turned around the fic kept throwing those two together. Finally I just gave up and realized that I was writing a Ben/Jys fic... Question 4: If there were challenges from this thread, would you do them? I'd try Question 5: Do you ship/support other ships that include one of the characters in the ship? What are they? (example: Do you ship Ben/Tahiri? Jacella? Doran/Jysella? Kypella? Be honest now! ) Like I said, I like all ships. And try my best to make them all as reasonable and believable as possible. Question 6: If you answered yes to Q5, why do like Benella more/just as much as the other ships? Quite frankly, I think she's the best match for Ben. I mean come on, she's a Horn. Since so little is even mentioned of Jysella in Profic, what do you use as guidance for her characterization? How do you describe her appearance? Well, I try to write her very much her mother's daughter. For guidance on her character, I think about how my wife acts/reacts in relation to what I know about her mom/dad and then apply such considerations to Jysella. I blend the emotional/mental traits of both Mirax and Corran to produce what I think she'd do. Now appearance? Well She's a Jedi so she'll have a certain, athelethic body shape due to the training she'd undertake. Then both of her parents had black/dark hair so I usually give her black hair. 	Well, since I'm one of the folks who thought it was about time we have a Benella index I'll kick things off... Question 1: Name: Sara Question 2: What is the number one reason you like this ship? Because it just seems to work...Even if not much is really known about Jysella, she would be perfect for Ben. They would have known each other from early childhood (they were probably both at Shelter together during the Vong War) but since Ben didn't go to the academy, they probably weren't that close, which is a good thing. If they were too close in their friendship they may not want to "mess it up" by becoming anything more. Question 3: How did the ship gain your attention? (ie: who was it that introduced it to you?) Actually, I'm not sure but it must have been since springtime...I read a great fic that was written for one of the Ben Skywalker challenges which (if I remember correctly) had something to do with pairing Ben up with someone...That fic was about Ben and Jys...I don't recall much about the story but I remember thinking that they were perfect together... Question 4: If there were challenges from this thread, would you do them? Most definitely--even if I may be the one thinking them up --of course since no prizes are awarded except for the writer's personal enjoyment, I guess that's legit... Question 5: Do you ship/support other ships that include one of the characters in the ship? What are they? (example: Do you ship Ben/Tahiri? Jacella? Doran/Jysella? Kypella? Be honest now! ) Well, I actually read a great deal of Jacen and Jysella...mainly because the authors are good and are folks who support my fics...I also like Ben and Myri Antilles--however, I think Jys is better for our Bennie... And I will admit that the primary reason I ever clicked on Pregnantpadme's great and awesome fic Fear and Love is because one of the pairings is Kyp and Jysella...I just couldn't resist.. Question 6: If you answered yes to Q5, why do like Benella more/just as much as the other ships? Well, I think I hit on this above...They just seem perfect for each other...And I love the idea of Corran Horn terrorizing Ben over Jysella... Be honest now! ) I've done some Ben/Nelani in the past, but as I've said, Ben and Jysella make the most sense. I wouldn't mind doing Ben/Myri someday though. Everyone else is just too old for her (and Jacen has the double whammy of being too evil for her shudders). My interpretation of Jysella is a lot different than a lot of other board-members, because I wasn't exposed as much to Mirax and Corran, so my Jysella doesn't have a lot of their traits. As a result, I've portrayed her as someone a little more angelic, thoughtful, and patient than her parents. I am really all over the place with her characterization...From the unassuming Jysella in may love triagle (square ) The Rose and the Lily, to the tell-it-like-it-is, deadly calm Jysella in What Counts in the End. But usually I proceive her as a mix of her parents. Strong willed, stubborn and self-reliant. As to her physical appearance, I usually describe her as being tall, having black or dark long hair and either grey or green eyes. 	First two fics added to Index, both by our lovely Flowerlady : Title: What Counts In The End Author: Flower Lady Timeframe: Legacy Era Keywords: Summary: While facing death, Ben Skywalker’s remembers his life and what he will leave behind. This is based on canon as we know it both LotF and the Legacy Comics Series. It is my attempt at linking the two. This will also be Part One of a trilogy entitled The Chosen. Part Two will be about Jaina Solo, Part Three will be about Jacen Solo/Darth Krayt. Once they are complete the links will be in the intro of this story. This was also my response to the Over 30 SW Writers Club Challenge Status: Complete/ but the Trilogy is a WIP Title: The Rose And The Lily Author: Flowerlady Timeframe: Legacy Era Keywords: Summary: Jacen Solo is in love with both Tenel Ka and Jysella Horn.
