No extensions, folks! I can think of a few reasons I'd grant one, but mass procrastination is not one of them.
Now you guys have about four hours, so I'd recommend writing! So far we have three entries, but more entries are always good to have.

Well, at least now I won't have to worry if it would be stupid to submit a scene here, I might want to use somewhere else later....

I use stuff I wrote for these challenges or with my OCs in longer fics all the time... a lot of the Angels stuff I've written is working its way into a longer fic. Just a matter of if it fits or not

The entries are in!
Even though it seems that most of us took the procrastination part of this challenge far too much to heart, we still have some excellent entries.
Forever - VaderLVR64
Artillery Fire - Onoto
Writer's Block - Darth_Manion
Let's have the votes in by Monday, March 31 at midnight, board time.
And don't forget the current discussion topic! We're still discussing rivalries, and there's been some great stuff so far. We'll throw a new discussion topic into the mix in the next index update, but let's keep up the awesome discourse in the meantime.

Guys and girls I was wandering if I could get so feedback on an OC I'm working on.
Heres what I've got.
Back ground
Marth
Marth age 17
Grow up in child fighting arena, this was place where they made children as young as 3 and 4 years-old fight each other until one or both of them were killed.
Marth was throw into this world of child fighting rings at the age of 5 after he and his mother were killed after trying to get away form slavers Has father was killed fighting them off.
Marth came form the plant serion. A plant very far out in space that almost never used technology.
Due to the plants lack of technology the plant was taken over but soon after left it in ruins.
He is no shipped for plant to plant to fight for the exchange crime lords entertainment.
I know for a fact that I need a more SWish sounding name.
If I could get some feedback that would be great and most helpful.
Thanks in advance.

My best advice is to know your character, Marth, as if he was your best friend.
"Talk" to him, get to know him. Try and find out everything you can, even seemingly meaningless details. Discover and keep notes on things about him that readers may never know, nor need to know about him; he'll begin to feel alive and real to you, and his story will almost write itself. You've got an awesome start, but I suggest filling it in more.
As far as his name goes, go with something that rolls off your tongue when you say it. Pick something YOU feel an attachment to, and do it soon or else the name Marth, which you don't seem to care for will stick to your ribs and you'll inadvertantly refer to him by that name constantly.
I hope that helps somewhat.
Anyone else with 2 creds for this lad?

Sounds good so far ā reminds me of the first Conan the Barbarian movie.
Ale dispenses good advice.
The only things I could add would only build on his foundation.
For example ā as you take notes (per Ale), you may wish to ask yourself how the character would respond to various things.
- interpersonal relationships (Iād guess badly, although deep inside he would likely be desiring someone to love)
- technology ā would he fear it, or disdain it, or attempt to embrace it but without his history of dealing with such things end up doing so with less than desired results?
- conflicts of various sorts. With his background would he likely attempt physical resolution as option #1, no matter the nature of the conflict?
Things like that.

Aha! That's it. Hold it right there. Pronoun trouble. It's not "he doesn't have to shoot YOU now," it's "he doens't have to shoot ME now." Well I say he DOES have to shoot me now!! So shoot me now!

RE: Essential Guide to OCs [creating OCs from central plot]
|
I see the character-centric advice has been given, so I might as well take the opposite route.
My suggestion is that you figure out what kind of story you want to write, then mold your OC around it. For that you need to ask yourself this question:
What is your story about?
- Is it about your character becoming a champion fighter?
- Is it about him escaping and going home?
- Is it about his revenge on the slavers and crime lords?
- Is it about struggling against overwhelming odds?
- Is it about friendship and loyalty and the betrayal thereof?
Take your answer and toss your OC at it. If you don't like the way he bounces, make a few changes (either to him or the story - it doesn't matter which at this point) and try again. While you're at it, take the time to make a few minor characters who bounce in a different way.
God may be in the details, but you should have a solid core to begin with.

Remember this from last year:
OCDatabaseSock posted: September OC Challenge!!!!
Here we go with Thumper's challenge:
Kids Are OC's Too...
We all have to (physically) grow up sometime, and every adult OC was once a child OC. Show us a memorable event from an adult OC's childhood. What made it memorable, either for that same character or for someone else? Was it happy, sad or something else entirely? Did it shape their adult life in any way?
Due date is Thursday September 20th, so get a move on!
I've finally gotten around to posting the fic I wrote for it!
Things Found.
It's a sequel to Things Lost, read that first if you haven't already read it.

And the winner of this month's challenge is...
Writer's Block by Darth Manion!
It was a close race, and all the stories are deserving of a hearty round of applause.
Index Updates!
This month brings us a variety of new stories for the index!
Talon Intelligence Squadron: Not Always As They Seem - Multiple Authors
Extra Galactic by ZaraValinor
Things Found by moosemousse
Wedding Jitters and Swatches and Swathing by Jade_Max
General Announcements of Miscellaneous Stuff
The OC Project- we haven't forgotten it, and neither should you! A number of stories are already listed in the index for reading, and we heartily recommend you check them out. And it's never too late to start your own. The main focus is on OCs who walk on the seedy side, and this project is a great way to push yourself and improve your writing abilities.
The OC STOM- Also has not been forgotten. But DWH had some technical difficulties with her programming environment, and her Super Sekrit STOM Picker Program (of DOOM) has been delayed. It followed the algorithm laid down by Ale, and hopefully it can be preserved for future generations.
And finally, a new discussion topic!
Seeing as April Fools has passed us by, now is a good time to reflect on the nature of pranks and how they affect the people around them. How do your OCs react to being fooled? Do they enjoy fooling other people? How do you handle trickery and deception in your stories? Discuss!
