I didn't know a lot of them, but that was partly because I was using a new OC, and also, for the birthday one, at least, the planet he's from has more days than Earth has, and I'm not quite obsessed enough with planet building to make a calender for it...
That's a neat little questionare, though.

I feel the same way; I don't like what the EU does with some of the canon characters, so I always end up changing them.

I've found reciently that I really like writing OCs because I can make them up completely and not have to let them be a product of a history that someone else has written.

I looked through the (very interesting) list. One of my older OCs who has been through several stories I know most of the info for, but usually when I'm writing a vignette or something with new OCs I don't go into nearly that much detail with them.

I'm glad there are other people out there who agree with me on that. That's why I mostly write OCs, because I can make them the way I feel they ought to be. When thinking about canon, I always want them to make different decisions, or act in another way, so I'm afraid my characterization would be terrible.

I know what you're talking about. There's a reason I never write anything that isn't OC based, or AU. Sometimes I want to explore what might have beens, but other times it's just because canon has me completely annoyed, and my OCs will work with me. Most of the time, anyway.

That's exactly why I prefer OC writing over canon. I love me some canon every once in a while, but they don't always fit with what I want to do.

Anyone else plan on contributing to January's OC Challenge? A lot of your guys were chomping at the bit during the decline of the OC Dueling Circle, so where are you all?

1. I know, especially with all the YJK characters....they've changed way too much for my liking sad .

2. Sorry, I might not contribute, none of my characters seem to fit, and the new idea I have that would fit isbeing pared with Zekk so I need to learn more about him.

Well, to begin, I don't know what the challenge for the month is, and also, I don't think I really have the time at the moment. That coupled with the fact that I don't really like submiting my writing for competitive stuff, because next to everyone else it looks terrible, sort of take me out. Next time, maybe.

I like the list of insider things to know about your OC. For me the biggest test of how well do you know your OC is putting them into a completely mundane activity and being able to see how he/she would do it. Sadly the exercise was lost, but I had a page of one of my big bad OCs shaving in the morning.

And as far as OC vs. Canon--think of all of the terrible things that George and some of the 'professional' EU folks have done to our favorite canon characters, they'll never be able to ruin your OC. OCs are far more versatile and easy to write for me.
