	Well it was close...it came right down to the wire! The votes are in; and our friendly, and un-corruptable group of volunteer senior citizens have tallied them all up, and drum-roll please... Congrats to a Devil Who Despairs by Luton_Plunder! Everyone join me in a big round of applause! And everyone give a cheer to Meredith_Kenobi's "When Actions are Stronger Than Words" for competing in a race close enough to make it The Daily Show worthy!! 	Congrats and excellent job to you both! On due dates: This time period is pretty good, I think. Making it a little longer by a few days wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't extend it too much more than that. I did not enter this challenge because I had exams on the week it was due, so I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it. 	Thanks everyone! I'm so happy everyone liked the story. I was lucky this time around that I happened to have a plot bunny that fit the challenge topic and had plenty of time to get it written. I'm not sure if a monthly challenge is too rushed - like I say, I just happened to have everything fall into place time-wise. 	Once a month is good. I was just taken over by the blahs at the beginning of January so didn't get the challenge done. Congrat L_P! They both were excellent stories. 	Well, I figured all the yay sayers were good with the current challenge schedule; I'd post the new one up early. With February being the shortest month of the year, I'd give everyone a few extra days. Luton_Plunder submitted the following for our new challenge: "Everyone has a price" Does the old saying hold true for your OC? Offer them a bribe to do something that they would otherwise find reprehensible, and let us all find out! And remember, often a person's 'price' has nothing to do with money... Lots of plot ideas already surrounding me, taking me hostage! 	OC Index Weekly Update for Feb. 2nd 2007 There are no new OC Stories or Characters to add this week. February brings a New OC Story of the Month It’s been four years since the events of ROTS; and the Empire has begun drafting citizens to replace the clones as storm troopers. This story follows one of those citizens from their initial training, right into the war with the Rebellion. Written by an author with a military background, currently serving the United States with his unit in Kuwait, please check out February’s OC-STOM: The Blood of Patriots, by CodyMonKenobi. I’d also like to thank Rogue_Pilot_2347 for our January OC-STOM: Blade of Flame. Over at the OC Writers Anonymous the current topic (which oqi WILL inevitably change as soon as I post this ) : When OCs get together and cause trouble... Is your OC part of a dynamic duo? Terrific trio? Crazy quartet? How do you use multiple characters to create even more dynamic OCs? Don’t forget about February’s OC Challenge from Luton_Plunder: Does the old saying hold true for your OC? Offer them a bribe to do something that they would otherwise find reprehensible, and let us all find out! And remember, often a person's 'price' has nothing to do with money... Already received some great entries, keep ‘em rolling in people! Due date is February 12th at midnight boardtime (Pacific Time) OC Writing Tip #8 Going Through the Motions? The strongest protagonists are usually active. Make sure your characters are not on a "magic carpet ride" type of journey through the story, just being carried along by a series of uncanny coincidences. In general, when creating characters while planning your stories, there are three different states of a character: 1. Passive. A lump of a character with no goals, no plans, no energy to do anything. Part of the scenery, like colorful statues in a garden. 2. Reactive. The type of character that will plan, or pursuit; he/she can get a little boost to get going, but is definitely heading towards a goal. 3. Active. Goal, plan, and pursuit; fully engaged in a quest to achieve their goal. Have your characters make active choices that make events happen. Force your characters to deal and learn from these choices as the story develops. Try watch your favorite movie or TV show and see whether you can tell which state each character is in, and how this state affects the story’s conflict and your own interest in the story. You may see that the active state of a character is much more engaging to witness.
