I would personally say surviving the poison so that way eventually we can see a L/M Jacen butt kicking scene. Plus it would be great to see Jacen hiding like the scaredy cat he is.
That sounds cool.
Hi, jewel! I see you're also a fellow n00b on this forums! I don't feel lonely anymore!

Welcome Tato and Jewel!
Well, if you're saying that Mara lived by surviving Jacen's poison, word would've spread like wildfire that he was a Sith, and Ben wouldn't be the only one who thought so. And we would've gotten some more L/M goodness. And Luke wouldn't have killed Lumiya out of hatred, so he wouldn't be all angsty and send Jaina after Jacen, but go after Jace himself . . . that was something I wanted to see in Invincible.
Yeah, things would've turned out very different. And much better!

There's a point in Sacrifice during Jacen and Mara's fight where Mara is about to shoot him at point blank range. That's what I wish had happened. I think Mara could have dealt with the ramifications of that much more easily than Jaina, as Mara is the better assassin. Then Mara and Luke could have killed Lumiya together, and the rest of the books could have been focused on resolving the war, creating a new government, Mara and Luke's relationship with Ben, Han and Leia dealing with Jacen's death, etc.
I like the idea of Mara surviving the poison too - the emperor should have built her resistance to poisons as part of her training.
That's my two cents, though I think I'd be okay with anything that happened if Mara was still alive.

I have to agree. I'd be okay with any change as long as Mara was alive and the was L/M mush.

From Sacrifice:
She took her blaster and leveled it at the eye, one-handed, forefinger resting on the trigger... She felt as detached and steady as she'd ever been as the Emperor's Hand.
"Tell my mom I'm sorry I failed her," Jacen whispered.
"She knows," Mara said, and squeezed the trigger.
This is where I'd like to conveniently end LOTF, though I ended up sticking with the series. It saves some grief.

Ok, my 2 cents.
I am currently working on the third chapter of my epic where I am rewriting the last end of Sacrifice. My premise is simple. What if Jacen doesn't have the chance to shoot her with the poison dart?
There is one simple detail that I've mentioned throughout my epic that, if changed, would bring about a whole different set of events. Kind of like how the Infinities series works.
In Sacrifice, Ben forgets the vibroblade which his mother gave to him. Unknown to him is the fact that she put a transponder inside the blade that will track him. Since he forgot the blade, Mara read that Ben was still on Coruscant, not in a shuttle coming after her. If he had not forgotten the blade, Mara would have known he was on the way. I think it would be a safe assumption that she would have stopped her hunt of Jacen then, or maybe she would use Ben to help her. Either way, she wouldn't have been shot down on Kavan and Jacen wouldn't have had the chance to poison her.

Don't like how Sacrifice ended? Have no fear! Sacrifice Infinities is being written now http://boards.theforce.net/Message.aspx?topic=28530199&brd=10477&start=28564519 To the makers of the Academy Award for Best Actor, the name is spelled, HEATH LEDGER!

I always have wondered if Ben ever got the vibro blade back. It would change the course of the book and the entire series tremendously. I like it.

I just got over nearly a four week hospital stay and recuperation at home due to a burst appendix. This is NOT an experience I recommend!
A belated shout-out to you, Rivad. So glad you made it thru this! A couple years ago, my college-aged son drove 4 hrs home, then played a round of golf, then admitted his stomach had been hurting a couple days. We dragged him to the walk-in clinic, where the doc told him to get to the hospital NOW. He had his appendix out about midnight, luckily before it burst.
As to what if Mara had survived Sacrifice ... then what would we have to complain about? LOL! Maybe just the poor characterizations, the lack of good plots, the hard-to-swallow dark side turning of Jacen, the deaths of Chewie and Anakin, the glorification of the Mandos and put-downs of the Jedi, the unresolved state of Jaina's love life ...

It was on her fifteenth day in the darkness of the Nirauan cave when Mara Jade awoke to discover a rescuer had finally arrived. It was not, however, any of the potential rescuers she would have expected. It was Luke. ~~And the rest is history~~

Re: the Sacrifice issue. No comment. My dislike of modern profic makes it pretty much impossible for me to comment without it being ... angry.
Random question: do any of you occasionally have plot bunnies show up out of left field about a story and you have absolutely no idea of the context or where the story would go? I had such an idea the other day when the name of the fic ("A Bitter Light" - get it?) popped into mind, along with a couple of scene ideas (L/M are raised as Jedi and end up leaving the Order, ultimately becoming a couple while Grandmaster Kenobi tries to find them) as well as the background (Palpatine, Vader & Yoda die at the end of EpIII, but Kenobi survives) ... but I have absolutely no idea about where the story would go!
Grrrrrr...

At least now I know I'm not the only one who comes up with this stuff. I've had one in mind for ages based on a simple premise - what if Luke and Leia are not siblings? No idea where to go with it or how it would change the story, but it's something that's floated around in my head for quite some time now.

Rigil_Kent: welcome to my world! I have a number of word docs on my hard drive filled with multi-chap ideas with hardly any plot, events, or even point to them at all... but I get an idea for them out of nowhere and I can't ignore it!
Re:sacrifice- many of you stole what I was going to say, but if Mara hadn't died, it would have been someone else I fear. Most likely Han or Leia, or worse even Luke And like Jedi-2B said, it's not exactly like Mara and Luke were fabulous in LOTF when they *were* alive... though it would be nice to have a story where it goes differently...

Always, always, ALWAYS, write or type these little bursts of inspiration down. You'd be suprised what can be built on one little thought or title. I've even have challenges come along that fit in perfectly with a little snippet I'd stowed away on my laptop.

Yeah, I do that too. My 'ideas' document is fairly long and filled with little snippets and thoughts which I may never use, but have available if the inspiration ever strikes.

You could turn these ideas into viggies. That way you get rid of that little voice in the back of your mind enticing you to use them, and, if you manage to develope them further than a viggie, you might even get a full blown story out of them.
As a matter of fact, I have one such plot bunny going around my head. It's frightening, it's sweet, it's bloody, it's evil, but with a good-guys-win ending. I might set it some two years prior to Specter and Vision, and it's about how Luke realized that Mara was the one for him, and a discovery that changes his views on the history of humanity in the galaxy and on the very nature of the Force itself.
