Well, my thoughts are...the fics we wrote "back in the day" are what they are. I think they can even show how much we've grown as writers.
I cringe when I go back and read, "Before the Doors Opened" and see where I'm all over the place with my POV. I go from humor to angst to drama--sheese! Good thing I had a patient master! (JL)
IJJ  : Use all the lovely adverbs in RL you want to! We have to have some place to overuse them! Just sparingly in our fics.  Okay, Master Hat off!

How about the... New Challenge??
Using what you've learned in Jade_Pilot's tutorial, write a NON-ROMANTIC mush fic. Examples of non-romantic mush could be scenes between: a parent and child, siblings or friends. As always, you do not have to follow the challenge in order to participate.
Remember, the next MMM is set for Monday, March 31.

Excellent tutorial, Jade_Pilot!  Like others have said, I suddenly (oops, already using a no-no word) have the urge to go edit, LOL.
As writer Elmore Leonard says:
“Never use an adverb to modify the verb: “. . . he admonished gravely. To use an adverb this way (or almost any way) is a mortal sin. The writer is now exposing himself in earnest, using a word that distracts and can interrupt the rhythm of the exchange.”

I can't wait to read the entries because I think this is the first time since MMM's inception that it's been non-romantic officially as part of the challenge stipulations. So for all of us who breathe romantic mush, maybe we can hope and pray for a secondary MMM entry from our L&M specialists??? Roses and huggles!!!!!

So, can there be touches of romance as long as it's mostly non-romantic? The scene I'm writing is a family scene, and there is just a little bit of mush with the mom and dad, but it mainly focuses on the whole family together.

I sure hope so, because I was thinking of something similar. Up to their neck in mush to start with, bue after a few paragraphs things rapidly turn... disastrous.
