In The News Roulette Challenge ---- New Discussion Topic 8/26

Just a note, VaderLVR64 allowed me to post this challenge because I put my request in before the announcement of the rule not to post any challenges during the awards. 
OK, in this challenge, you pick a number and I'll give you a news story that you will base a one-shot story upon. It can be any type or style of story (humor, drama, mush, drabble, vignette, poem, etc.), any era. But you must post the news story at the beginning and put "News Challenge Response" in the subject line. Just so you know, these news stories will not be headline news. Most of them are offbeat or relatively unknown. There will not be a time limitation. More than one person can choose each number, because I'm sure there are enough original minds here on the boards, that even if they get the same news story, their muse could take them in totally different directions (though, I will limit the amount of writers for each number to three).

Are we to write the fic as a news story? Or just write a fic based on the headline?

Duh: read the directions, brodiew! :-)
Either way is fine, I mean your character can be a news reporter and be reporting the news. It doesn't really matter. =) It can be based on the headline or the entire news article.
