So what do the Jedi eat? On Wookiepedia, they have an extenxive list of various foods and drinks that are prevalent across the galaxy. I always thought that Jedi would eat standard uisine, such as a simple sandwich, a glass of ale, or whatnot. But hey, I could be wrong and they eat the more elaborate things.

I would think Jedi would eat the simple fair if left to their own, but if they have to attend certain functions then they would eat whatever is provided which sometimes could include the "finer foods". I think Count Dooku in particular would go for that.

I'm always going to the thesaurus looking for GFFA-sounding names for foods. I'm sure they each sandwiches, but that name sounds too earth-like to me.
Hmmmmmm, food, this seems like a good topic.
My guess is that all Jedi are taught to eat simply and in moderation, whatever they eat. But the type of food could vary wildly depending on the species. It's strongly implied in the JA books that Jedi lean toward a more vegetarian diet (in one book Qui-Gon notes that a heaping plate of roast meat would not be appetizing to Obi-Wan), but they generally eat whatever they are given on their missions. There are plenty of species who could only eat plants, others who could only eat meat and anywhere in between.
SW is a true fantasy to have people traveling to different planets so much and seem to never get sick from eating strange food and drinking strange water.

Hopefully not space food. Actually, I think that they eat ration cubes for minerals and nutrition purposes. What good is a Jedi who can't do all of the "stuntwork" that's necessary for protecting the galaxy?

foodrations when on a mission but we have seen Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon visiting Didi and Dex.
And Qui-Gon and later Obi-Wan complaining about the voracious appetite of the Padawan.
Jedi should be mostly vegetarians and all Jedi meet with Master Yoda's stew.
Luke did on Dagobah.
Anakin can be different. Seeing him eat a worm to his master's disgust in one of the clone-wars animated tales was funny.

I found that to be hilarious. "Ew...I can't believe you're eating that."

I figure a Jedi should be able to produce and/or consume a meal under circumstances ranging from "dumped naked in the wilderness with no lightsaber" to "chef or guest in a five-star restaurant." Well, actually they're probably not all expected to be able to produce a credible chef-creation, but at least they should be able to handle eating it. (Granted, it's probably impossible to learn about every food, custom, and technique for dinner across the galaxy -- a single planet is hard enough here, yeah? -- so I'd imagine there are probably crash courses in local table manners if necessary, plus as a last resort a willingness and ability to ask with dignity how you go about extracting this interesting plant and/or crustacean from its thorny shell.)
On moderation, I'm sure they're supposed to eat a balanced diet when possible and not gorge, but it's probably worth bearing in mind that a Jedi's daily calorie expenditure probably starts (for the humans, as I know more about our metabolisms ) at around 3000 calories for a small woman whose metabolism has started to slow down a smidge, and just goes up from there. I figure they can go on minimal food for a while and be supported by the Force, but I also kind of figure that -- given the Force is intimately associated with living things and the way things are -- once you get the chance, you have to give your body resources in the normal way again.
Also, even if you restrict yourself to plainly prepared and relatively inexpensive food, I'm guessing there is a huge variety. Coruscant is, well, rather cosmopolitan. It's a big galaxy, a big Republic, and I'd imagine that any given planet has at least one and possibly several cuisines with different "simple" options. *g* Actually, I could imagine sandwiches (possibly not called that, if you like) being an absolute art from and the height of fancy in some places.

I laughed about Anakin eating bugs in the Clone Wars cartoons. Really, he was just trying to gross out Obi-Wan and show how tough he is. But I think that Jedi survival training would include finding food in any form; I guess Obi-Wan never really appreciated all the possibilities.

Oh, I agree. Jedi 'food training' would have to be extensive. It wouldn't just be about preparation, it would include local customs. If a Jedi had time to prepare for a mission I suppose local food and table manners would be part of the preparation. I often write missions as being like 911 calls; Jedi just have to go right away to handle it. I suppose it was that way leading up to and during the Clone Wars. But before then there could have been many missions that allowed for lots of preparation time.
And since the Temple is on Coruscant I would imagine that the cuisine of the whole galaxy could be easily found without ever leaving the planet. Lots of room for practice. Possibly going to to eat at different places would be part of a Jedi's training?
So, does anyone want to speculate about what just might be in Yoda's stew? I always assume that it is at least passable. At least Luke didn't spit it out in TESB.

I think that the temple has a food service system and that they make meals according to each different species' diets. Also that the meals are properly balanced for the rigorous life a Jedi in terms of portions and nutrients. I also believe this system would mostly apply to the younglings and that once the younglings reached the level of padawan that they would be in charge of their food.
I imagine that in their rooms a food processor would be installed which could make it easier for them since they have so much to learn. I could see that a Master would impress upon the importance of taking care of yourself which would include being able to feed yourself.
The way that Hogwarts is detailed in Harry Potter is how a series of stories should do with the Jedi Temple.

Well, as fas as having the most extensive archives in the galaxy, the Jedi probably have info on the various cuisine that each species and culture within the galaxy partake in. As far as training, i'm sure that training is included. Humans seem to be the ones that can eat almost anything in the galaxy.

I have this sudden mental image of exploration/foraging--maybe way back when, maybe ExplorCorps, maybe somebody totally different.

Ha ha!
But from the movies there are supposed to be hundreds of thousands of worlds. Different worlds, different planets, different species. I suppose that the GFFA must be so well established that everyone has traded and gotten used to everyone else's food. And germs. I just assume that everyone in the GFFA has to have a photographic memory just to keep it all straight.
I like to assume that there's a rule in the Jedi Temple that food is not allowed in the rooms........just so everyone can ignore it.

I think that most Jedi would tend to view food as fuel for their bodies. They would be less likely to overindulge, especially on the bad stuff. They would probably eat healthy for the most part (you are what you eat) but they would have been taught to partake of whatever their hosts offer them out of courtesy, even if it makes them feel a bit icky.

Blue milk and freshly baked cookies Yoda would make for them.
