I'm thinking more of "You get what you pay for." Maybe like a car that has standard features and then you can get a few perks. The battle droids were clearly bought on a budget, probably from BigLots. :P

Or they have the capacity to "learn" as they go on, if they don't get memory-wiped.

I don't think part 1 would need a complete rewrite...in fact, I suppose you could have the droid go off on his own to "do the right thing" and he can be conniving...though that might be the wrong word...humanistic maybe, in that he knows what he has to do, but when he tries to do it, he has no experience of life in the galaxy, he has no concept of people deceiving him. So while he has the capacity to commit blackmail, he himself is far too trusting.
My problem with the droid in the first part is that he seems almost evil when he realises what he has to do, I just think it needs to be toned down a bit.

I do believe that description is darn near perfect.

Hmm. Well, I'm not sure what to do with that at this point.
We're having so much trouble getting a script done that I think we should just go, go, go, and get a first draft done if at all possible. If we stop to rewrite now, who knows how long that could take?
The fact is, writers are rewritten so much by everyone else later in the production in Hollywood that by the time a project gets to the screen, they're lucky if one quarter of what they turned in is still there in the script. I figured that's how it would go for this one, and pretty much planned that my job would be to get a first draft down and turned in. Since you're on the film crew, and you'll probably be rewriting the whole thing anyway, maybe you should just wait until a first draft is done. Change it to what you want later. After we're done it's all yours anyway.
Otherwise this could take forever.

OH, AND BTW EVERYONE:
Just saw this news on the other thread:
Vidina posted: A friend of mine just returned from getting a bachelors degree in animation. He ROCKS at character/design concepts, and will be joining us. I told him that we're in dire need of concept artists, and he was engaged already. I've known the guy for about 5-7 years, and believe me, he'll deliver. Expect some character(droid) concept sketches during this weekend.

I don't even know if I'm writing part 2. Nobody has said anything, so I don't know if you guys are writing it, if DB is back on board.

I think a first draft is of paramount importance right now just so we can have the complete framework with which to work.

agreed... finish the first draft, change stuff later... works for me. I'm a filmie, so my opinion here matters little, but still.

LLL posted: If a new writer wants to come on board who can get this part done rather quickly (especially who wanted to work on this to begin with), it's cool with me. If not, me and MJ will get crankin'.
As I said, it's fine with me if you want to do it.
And then you posted some sample script and started suggesting changes, so I took that as a "Yes, I want to do it."
If you do want the job you are more than welcome to write it. I do think that we should just go with the basic concept as is, and then you can rewrite it once we get the first draft done, since that job will probably fall to you anyway the way it looks right now.
Addendum:
Darth_Manion has logged in at least twice since the 15th and never bothered to read my PM's, despite subject lines saying This Is Important, so even if he did want back on the project, I'd have to say no.

Right...well I'll have to get it done before the 29th because once GTA IV comes out you won't see me for a month
It shouldn't take me long...a week I would say. Depending on my mood I will write 2 or 3 pages a day or sometimes 9 or 10 on a really productive day.
Back when we were coming up with ideas for the project, one of my ideas involved a bounty hunter called "Larson Zell". I was thinking I could use that name for the smuggler.
Also has there been any agreement on what kind of ship the smuggler has and if the ship has a name?
By the way, how far do you want me to go into the story? Is it just to the point where they leave the planet?
And finally, would there be any objections to me writing a brief scene where it goes back to the family who are wondering where the droid is? After all you would think that they might look for him.

The ship is wide open. Writer discretion.
If you page down Page 1 of this thread, who was supposed to write what is detailed about halfway down, I think. I'll try to find the post.
Personally, I think cutting back to the family will just disrupt the story. We will go back to them at the end anyway. But, that's my opinion. It may be possible to do a scene that adds immeasurably to the story. Just because I haven't thought of it doesn't mean it can't be done.
