K, I'll check back in a day or two with a progress report.
Any last guidelines to follow? A particular place where the Imperial should be? A particular rank? The extent of the contact between the droid and the Imperial? Or is it all at my discretion?

IIRC, the Imperial just needs to be highly placed enough that the droid can extort enough money from him/her to save its master.

Or the Imperial can be mid-level, but corrupt enough to have skimmed a bit off the top, if you know what I mean.

I think it would help us decide such things as rank if we knew exactly what this person had done. I envisioned this guy as someone skimming quite a bit off the top, using his position to rip off the Empire...say, stealing some Imperial weapons and reselling them on the sly to undesirables, perhaps? Something like that.
However, the actual character will be introduced by Ish, I believe; consequently, he's her character, and since MJ and I got the family and the droid, Jed will get the smuggler, and RX will get to make up the bounty hunter, I don't want to step on Ish's toes. She's a prolific writer, and she's here for a reason, so...
Perhaps I will just ask Ish to step in here and provide us a short background of the character right now. Not in scene or story form, just a concise report, so Jed will have something to work with. Then we can all look critically at it and make sure the factual details are right, such as his rank, if the ship he's (or she's) serving on is accurate and realistic, if he's serving in the department he'd actually have to be in for it to work, and that sort of thing.

The Imperial (in brief)
This is a character who reached his station in life more by his connections than by his merits alone. A son of Mid-rim colonizers, he supports Palpatine because it will get him farther in life than doing the 'noble' (ie suicidal) thing. He is the sort to admire Palpatine because he recognizes someone who is as cunning as he wants to be.
Most of his indiscretions are minor--imbezzling, taking bribes, working against the Empire with locals when it suited his purposes and the occasional convenient disposal of an officer who knew too much. What his actual crime will me would be in-character if it involved one of those sorts of crimes.
If you remember Tomer Darpen from Starfighters of Adumar, I envision this man to be a more advanced version of that man. Always has a side-something to keep him entertained and well-heeled, but mostly harmless when he wants to be.

Ok, well to give you a heads up, I've decided how to introduce the Imperial...I'm not going to. Part 2 will end with the smuggler leaving the planet with the droid, who will ask to use the ship's communications system. That way you can start writing anyway you want and either follow straight on and show the droid and the Imperial coming into contact or you can have a scene shoing the Imperial at his best/worst and then have him receive a message. Whatever you want to do.

Might I suggest:
This guy needs to have done at least one thing big enough that a superior like, say, Moff Tarkin wouldn't sneeze at it. It would have to be something big enough to someone high up enough that this person would be very anxious to cover it up. Lots of little stuff, cool, but if it's too little he wouldn't be a good blackmail target.

I agree wholeheartedly with that. It's not going to be worth the threat of blackmail if he hasn't done SOMETHING really serious.

WHAT'S HAPPENING! 4/27/08
In case you haven't been reading the other thread, we might have a pic of our droid soon.
Vidina posted: He might be joining my VFX crew and doing some matte paintings aswell, but right now, he's working on the droid. I've given him the URL's for this and the script, so he can get a better idea about how things should look. He should be able to have it ready by monday/tuesday. After that, let me know what needs to be done, and I'll pass the word along and give him deadlines.
