Non-Star Wars fan fic forum proposal - FORUM OPEN!!

The Mod Squad has been talking about creating a new fan fiction forum for all the non-Star Wars fan fic. The forum would include all types of fan fic (books, comics, movies, TV, etc.) but not original fiction. We’re still ironing out some details, but I want to know what you guys think of the idea.
We were thinking that it might draw back some older users who post different types of fanfic at other sites, and be a valuable addition to the JC, especially since character discussions would benefit the SFFs and Amph.

Considering the level of tangentiality the rest of the JC has reached (the Arena, seriously?), I personally think that something like this is long overdue.

I have no objections at all, but I am a little curious, Nat. When the idea had been brought up in the past, I thought one of the reasons the MS said no was the worry that certain authors/fandoms had a less lenient view of fanfic than LFL. Do they feel that's less of a concern now?

Just remember to check at FF.net for a list of authors/others that could sue us if they found their fanfic on this site.
I would other than that the same guidelines (No graphic violence/sexual acts, no homosexuality, no ISSR unless canon) would apply?
I agree that this is long overdue.

Huh. Sounds interesting... I admit, I don't usually spend a lot of time in the "off topic" or whatever sections of forums I went to for a specific thing, but then, I did play the HP House Cup game over in Census here.

That's kind of part of what caught me off guard reading this too, especially since we're still awaiting the fallout from the JK Rowling lawsuit.

We're going to be really on top of making sure that any disallowed fandoms stay disallowed here. And yes, even with the JKR thing going on, the MS is less worried. However, we will be making sure to keep on top of things.

Like Gabri Jade, I don't have objections, but I'm curious as to why this is being looked upon favorably now when always before it wasn't. I can think of a few authors who have moved onto other fandoms who would likely come back if this were put in place, and a lot of fanficcers write in more than one fandom anyway, so it would keep others around longer perhaps.

Hey, I'll take that as an encouraging sign for fanfic overall. 
I only write SW fanfic myself, so I don't personally care one way or the other. But I think this is something the community's wanted for a long time, and I suspect it would be very popular. If the MS thinks the concept is under control, I'm all for it.

We're still discussing that, but at the moment we're leaning toward seperate (possibly seperate categories). The idea is that the current four mods signed up to moderate a star wars fanfic board. They don't necessarily have any interest in non-sw and wouldn't feel comfortable with modding it.
Part of the swing is time, part of it is the fact that we've hit the peak as far as Star Wars enthusiasm, so after ROTS we're trying to keep and bring back users. And part of it is simply that the last time this was discussed was when the SFF forums were created, and at least half of the current Mod Squad wasn't around then.

I think it's a terrific idea. There quite a few cross-over authors here, who I'm sure wouldn't mind flexing their muscles within the comfort of these walls.
Is there any idea of what of how many fandoms are off limits?

I haven't gone through a list yet, but I know off the top of my head that Anne Rice, Anne MacCaffrey, and Anne Bishop don't like it (gee, I see a trend . . . ). It's all individual authors/creators. That being said, this is open to anything - books, TV, comics, movies, etc., so there will still be a huge list.
