Well it's been a while since I've popped onto these forums (I seemed to lose interest in Star Wars shortly after Episode 3, alas) so I doubt anyone will remember me or that I wrote a fanfic back in the day. I've been writing original fiction for ages as well, and even have a couple of low-key (very low-key to be honest) credits to my name. Still, progress is slow due to physical difficulties I have with writing now (thanks very much to my cheap-skate high school and its lack of lockers and stupidly heavy textbooks) and having graduated college/university and with my friends kind of drifting off and not very interested in the kind of stuff I write anyway, I don't really have an outlet or anywhere to bounce stuff off. Especially bad stuff. Yes, I'm a bit of a wuss, and while I appreciate people taking the time to critique my work I'm really more in need of encouragement to continue. If what I wrote sucks, of course, I'd like to know, but in a friendly way. Right now I just kind of feel lost with my fiction because I can't really tell if it's good or not. Painkillers have left me quite scatterebrained and a bit zombified, so I feel foggy and just different, somehow. Not to brag but I used to write pretty well, and I knew it because various independent sources (teachers, lecturers, classmates (even some that didn't particularly like me), random people online) let me know. But now I don't really know if it's up to scratch. Perhaps I'm just having a crisis of confidence and need petty reassurance. But
So sorry to sidle into this conversation, I'm aware I'm off topic but I felt a discussion on non-SW fiction was close enough to original fiction, and I didn't want to be rude and start a new thread just for me. I always remember my time writing here quite fondly and found the JCFF community to be highly supportive and friendly, so sorry if I seem to be taking advantage by popping in here after not posting on the forums at all for a couple of years. I just need to pick your brains briefly. And I may even start a new Fan Fic soon, though I've been planning that since December...
Anyway, I was wondering: does anyone know or belong to a nice, friendly community of writers that I can bounce my original work off in a fairly raw state and who might tell me politely if the writing stinks? Sorry to be a bother.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I could have posted this in the social thread. Brainfart. Still, I'll leave it here unless there are objections.

Say, did you ever get around to writing that "24"-style fic you were talking about, like, five years ago?

Thanks for the welcome. I can't believe someone remembers that idea I had.  I remember it too, and I did a little work on it but then it got put in a drawer somewhere. I did more substantial work (two whole episodes!) on a fantasy kind of 24 though, so the concept wasn't entirely wasted. I wonder if that would count as non-SW fanfic, if the characters and setting are all original but the premise/format is totally based off existing media. An interesting quandary.

For discussion of original fiction, we do have a fanfic thread and a Sci-fi Fantasy thread. The latter is locked, but I'm sure a mod would unlock it if requested.

Exactly, Quigonjecca! Some other forums, even the popular ones, are not very accessible. I've been looking for a place, set up like tf.n, to test the waters of other fandoms. I'm glad to see it here.

Question: If we currently have a crossover fic going on in any of the SW only forums, will we have to transfer that to the Non - Star wars forum or can we post to both at the same time?

I think this was mentioned in discussion, and IIRC the decision was:
- that crossovers involving SW belonged on the SW boards;
- no story could be posted to both the SW and NSW boards.
I'm pretty sure of it, but still? Mods?

I think it would be very nice, as I write in other fandoms, namely Transformers but attempt to write other stuff, too. However, I also think that it is a good idea to allow original stuff in that forum, unless there's enough original fiction written by the SW fanfic authors to constitute its own forum.
