This would be completely seperate from SWFF. It wouldn't use Resource, and the current mods wouldn't be modding it (unless they're interested in putting their names into the hat). Yes, we are trying to attract some former users back by letting them post their other stories, but it won't detract at all from the current fanfic.
We're still discussing any splits. It wouldn't be major fandoms splitting off, but it could be divided by media (books, comics, TV, etc.) or into SFF and non-SFF. We're happy for suggestions on that, and it's still under discussion. We might not split it at all.
And Ale. You're a sweetie I don't know how far I'm being roped it

I have no problems with this. However, now if it's a cross-over, would it go here or in the non-SW fanfic section? Just something to think about. Because Dragons and SW go together!

There was confusion about it being a separate forum? Personally, my comments were about the JC Forums as a whole, not solely specific to SWFF.

I think there's some resource confusion. And I can see where you're coming from. This won't be as huge as ff.net, and it certainly won't eclipse SW or SWFF.
We haven't discussed crossovers much yet, but probably, like SFF, everything SW-related will still go here.

I for one LOVE the idea of having a non SW fanfic board! I started out writing stories in other fandoms, and I would love to bring them to a new audience. For one thing, fanfic.net is so picky and the readers not quite as courteous as they are here. So I'm all for having the forum.

I think it's a good idea. As to the concerns about the non-SW world of FF being too big for TFN, our rating guidelines and TOS are a bit stricter than most FF sites and will limit the stories that can be posted here. Writers/readers will still have to go elsewhere for fics rated higher than PG/slash/etc.

I don't think it's a good idea. I've always thought that different fandoms should remain seperate from each other on a website like this, otherwise you'll end up with a mess. If people want to write fan fiction in other fandoms then that's up to them and if they want to keep their stories together, then they can make a live journal archive, or if they have web skills, they can make a personal website and share things that way (put a link in their profile or sig). I know that you want to keep users coming here and posting, but what happens if there's so many different fandoms that they need to have seperate boards simply so people can find the stories they want to read? OC authors don't have their own board, so how would you be able to justify making more boards? (I'm probably jumping ahead of myself here...) I don't have a problem with people wanting to write in other fandoms, but I just have to wonder about the practicality of it here and if this is the right place for it.

I'm not vehemently opposed or anything, but I'm not particularly thrilled by the idea. This is a SW site, and I come here because I love SW. It's so different here than at FF.N. I'd hate to see this place turn into that.
EDIT: spelling

I think this is a great idea. I'll definitely be more active around here if such a forum is created.

For a NSWFF forum a lot of effort should be put into the forum index and FAQ before starting it. It would have things like:
- acronyms for different fandoms; HP=Harry Potter, ST:DS9=Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, DW=Doctor Who, etc. That could be quite a list.
- fandoms not allowed by author/corporate request; Ann Rice, Disney, etc.
- rules about topic headers that list the fandom so people can find things.
- etc.
An NSWFF forum may easily have to be split into different fora just so people can find things, but there's no way to know how to sort things until people start posting.

Yeah, I agree with Pallas-Athena here. I mean I chat about BSG and Lost in the JCC, why not have ff, too?

Another 2 cents, but I'm running out of change.

Double agree. Outside these ff boards, everything else in the world has at least it's own thread; from Lost and BSG (two of my all time favs btw), to pro-wrestling, to social "debates"; a fanfic board for non-SW material isn't going to impact those who stay safe within these four walls (Before, Saga, Beyond, and Resource).

Ale speaks the truth. In all honesty, I don't venture much outside the fanfic forums, so the fact that people are discussing BSG and sports elsewhere on TFN doesn't affect me at all. If you're not interested in the NSWFF forums, then you just don't have to visit. I don't think I'd visit much, but I would visit.
Turning into FFN would require deadbeat moderators, no quality control, and no community resources for the writers. I really don't see that happening here, so I'm not worried about the decline of the site due to the entrance of other fandoms.

I've been a member of ff.net for over 5 years and I positively loathe the site. The biggest reason I hate is that there are no standards there, and the admin is very lax on keeping out inappropriate material.
And another thing I've had at least three stories pulled down for no apparent reason, and every time it happened I recieved emails informing me that I was banned from the site for a couple of months. When it happened I was blindsided because they never gave a reason, and I have to assume that someone who didn't like one of my stories complained, and that's why they were removed.
When I came to the JC I was totally shocked to see mods who actually cared, and I became primarily a SW fanficcer because of that. A non SWFF forum gives us such an amazing opportunity to write for a community we already respect.
