This is something I put together last year for the Fanfic Awards. I didn't tell people about it because - er, I don't remember, actually. Perhaps it was because I wanted to add a few more features.
I was hoping I could make it into a Firefox add-on by now (I prefer client-side applications to server-side ones), but RL and my own intellectual limits have been impeding me. Maybe next year . . .
What it does
The Nom Machine is a simple program that keeps track of stories you want to nominate for the Fanfic Awards and presents them in a copy&paste-able format.
Please note that it will not automatically nominate them for you. Nor will it check noms to see if they qualify or not.
Accessing the thingy
There are two ways to access the Nom Machine. One requires Firefox; the other, er, doesn't.
With Firefox: download the add-on I made and install it with Firefox. This adds two links (Nom Machine and Link Machine) to the forum header.
Without Firefox: there's a checkbox that says nom near the upper-left section of the Link Machine. When you search for a fic with this box checked, you will get additional [NOM] links.
Er . . . come to think of it, you can go directly to the Nom Machine if you like. I don't recommend it, though.
Adding/removing fics to the list
1. Find the fic you want to nominate, then click on the add-on's Nom Machine link from the fic's page or the [NOM] link in the Link Machine.
2. Fill in and/or edit the blanks as needed.
- username
I recommend using the same one you use at the JC boards. If something goes wrong, it's much simpler this way since I don't have to verify that you are, in fact, who you say you are.
- password
Please don't use your JC password as the security of this program isn't one of its strong points.
- URL
The fic's URL. If the fic was posted in an official challenge response thread or the challenge thread itself, I suggest using the post's URL instead of the page.
- title
Initially, this will include the title and whatever else the author put in the thread's subject line (e.g., Wossname of the Force [RotS, A/P, major angst] new chapter 9/31). I suggest removing everything but the title itself.
- author
Initially, this will be the user who started the thread. You may want to change this for collaborations and such.
3. Click the appropriate era: Before, Saga, or Beyond.
4. Check all the categories you want to nominate the fic for. Fill in the Best Characters' names if needed.
Please note: if you add a fic to a category that is already on your nom list, the old one will be erased.
Skip this step if you just want to see a list of your noms.
5. Click the "add to noms" button.
6. If you want to remove fics from the list, check the appropriate boxes and click the "remove checked items" button.
Nominating the fics
When the times comes, copy & paste the section you need and PM it to the appropriate sock.
Changes
If this year's overseer announces any changes to the categories, I will update the Nom Machine as soon as possible (usually within 24 hours). If I don't, please PM me.
If the format for broken links in nom PMs is changed, I can update that, too.
Questions and/or comments
Either post them in this thread or send me a PM.

Question about the Firefox add-on - I downloaded it, and I'm pretty sure I opened it/ran it/installed it/etc etc etc, but I'm not seeing any extra links in the forum headers. Am I missing a step? I'm using Firefox on a Mac, if that makes any difference.

Sorry for the delay.
JadeSolo: I downloaded it, and I'm pretty sure I opened it/ran it/installed it/etc etc etc, but I'm not seeing any extra links in the forum headers. Am I missing a step?
Hmm . . . *scratches head*
Let's try a by-the-numbers approach.
1. Are you sure the links aren't there?
In the Fanfic forums, it should be just above the Mods' links (see screenshots from Resource and Saga).
BTW - the reason it's in different places in different forums is because the HTML for the header is different. To quote Han Solo, "It's not my fault!"
2. Is it actually installed?
From the browser menu, click Tools > Add-ons. Check the list of add-ons for "JC Fanfic Nom Link". When you click it, do buttons for "disable" and "uninstall" appear?
3. Is the HTML different for Mods?
Click View > Page Source (or Ctrl+U) and search for AlternateTopNav. There should be a span tag with an id that includes those words.
4. What does the Error Console say?
Open any JC page and click Tools > Error Console, then the Errors button. What does it say, if anything? (It probably won't. But it's always worth trying.)
If these aren't the reason the add-on doesn't work for you, it may be something OS-specific. In that case, we'll have to try . . . um, something else.

Here's an interesting development on the Nom Machine.
Downloaded it.
Installed it (I use Firefox).
The links showed up on the main page.
I go to the Nom Machine and this shows up.

Norton thinks you're a suspicious web page, Lazy. I swear the next computer I get will use a different anti-virus/spyware blocker/firewall/etc. as soon as I find ones I like. Norton is a HORRIBLE resource hog.
EDIT: The forum bug! The forum bug! The web page address that the forum turned into complete hash above is:
h t t p : // f 5 9 . a a a . l i v e d o o r . j p / ~l a z y k b y s / j c f a n f i c n o m s . p h p
AND IT'S STILL HASH. Even when I put spaces between everything. Wow, the forum does not like that code at all.

Lazy, this is the single best invention in the history of ever.
I would like to have your babies plz. Thank u.
Okay, actually, I can't get the Firefox add-on to install--it just downloads an .xpi file to a random folder, and my computer doesn't know what to do with it. Neither do I.
Even still, just the noms machine alone is worthy of the title "best invention in the history of ever."
