Ever felt tempted to get into costume and pose as one of your OCs for any purpose?

I wikia on fanon, and the chatacter (Antiene Laras) kinda looks like me...so I did...not sure if it's good

(bottom image is me)

Try not to make this into an art thread, but have you ever posed as an OC for a picture, or gotten a friend to?

Well, not pose on purpose. I just lacked pic for a cover and since I was them too stupid to know how to google for ordinary-looking girls, I just used an old pic of myself. The cover of 'I, Boba'.
And once I started, well, I think I am now stuck with the job.
I was really tempted to pose for my self-insertion fic with some people on the Jedi-Con, but I didn't know what kind of pic I wanted. doh! Might still do that one day. grin

I like your cover. Where did you find that perfect Coruscant pic? I have trouble finding nice Coruscant shots.
I wouldn't want to have my face on a cover, to be honest. tongue I don't even like myself in pictures most of the times.

I went to Celebration IV as Stacey from Pink 5. She's not my OC, but she's the one that I write most.

No, I've never done a costume of any OC I've written. I pretty much stay away from writing any OC who even remotely looks like me. Best to stay away from any appearance of Mary-Sueishness.

Strangely enough, I have made up an OC to go with a costume. When I first joined the Rebel Legion and Jedi Assembly, the membership form asked for a character name and background. Well, I almost never do any background for costumes beyond any masquerade schtick. So I made something up and it's still on one of my costume profiles on Rebel Legion -- the one with my lightsaber sticking out of my left ear; the background explains that -- though it is not on my other Jedi costume profile. The costume in the link needs to be updated to an EU Jedi, but the background would stay the same.

The costuming groups now de-emphasize character backgrounds for costumes to avoid any appearance of role-playingness.

I cast better-looking people to play my characters. Dressing up as one of my characters would be rather difficult, given that I don't resemble any of them (I could put a wig on for one, but that would look stupid).

Trying to impersonate the male characters would require cross-dressing, which isn't too bad given the kind of clothes those guys tend to pull off. But I'm...height challenged, so I can't even play someone who's 5"9, and he's the shortest guy in the bunch. (I'd still like to rock a frock coat, though, even if it's just as some sort of homage).

The reason I chose to pose as Antiene is that she does look like me without being a Mary Sue.

Is it really so Mary Sue to use certain people as physical models for characters? Well, then I'm guilty of a sin, I suppose. But I "cast" real-world actors because I see my stories as films in my head. Form follows function that way. Plus it allows me to maintain distance from my characters, so I can (usually) write them better.

I think that's prejudice. Many people pose a canon cast all over the world and nobody calls them names. not_talking
It is also not true. The OC I have that's most Mary Sueish doesn't resemble me the least. tongue And had I know how to use google, I'd never have ended up on my own story cover. I prefer to use good-looking people; like, casted Kate Winslet for one OC. She's pretty. love

My OC Amne has a physical double because while writing the first chapter of the story, I was browsing formal updos and found a young woman with red hair and blue eyes that had the right kind of smile and look as my character.

I don't look much like any of my OC's, and I don't usually like pictures of me anyway. So I cast actors for them. It helps me visualize them better; and I can get plot bunnies by making fanart or watching a movie with those actors. grin

Definitely. Casting actors for your OC's also means you can hit rewind and pause whenever you need to while writing a particularly tricky scene or story. It also gives a writer a larger and more diverse pool of inspiration to work from, since you have more than one film to choose when creating the character. You can use one role to inspire the appearance, then use others to influence the personality and backstory.
