I'm not quite sure where it went... two of my good friends are going to be celebrating their 1 year wedding anniversary this week. Crazy!

And Breezy is absolutely right. You'll have more fun, and write better stories, if you do it for yourself. grin

Breezy, you are a wonderful voice of reason and wisdom. happy

I don't know where the year went, either. I'm turning nineteen in just over a week. shock Gah! And to think last year I was all worked up -- excited and nervous -- about going to university, and now I'm all, "Can summer be over? I want to go back to school!" silly

Also, last year I made a promise to myself that I'd have finished my epic. I have broken that promise... again. silly I think I just can't admit to myself that the silly thing won't be done until it says that it wants to be done. tongue

*wonders how many people how many old timers would say "Who is 'Breezy' and why is she posting under Darth's handle? *

But seriously, I'm very glad you folks understand, and hopefully take it to heart, especially the newer 'kids'. I do remember how hard it was, and discouraging at times it can be, and I would hate to see something that's supposed to be fun end up being the end of someone's writing experiences.

That all being said, I hope you take the time to toss in some noms, and reply to fics (yes, I know I'm particularly bad at lurking, especially lately) and let everyone know you're out there!

Tbh, I'm thrilled that it was a character of mine that was nominated. Even if she doesn't qualify I'm glad that someone likes her enough to nominate her. blush

Thanks, DarthBreezy, for your pep talk about the awards! It is so true that we mustn’t hang our self-worth as writers on an event that 1) is meant to be fun and 2) not all readers participate in.

I will say, though, that where fanfic is concerned, I don’t write for myself - I write to share my interest in, and excitement about the fandom. The key there is [i]sharing[/]. I write other things, too – many of them for myself - but that writing isn’t about posting. For me, fanfic is a social activity, an ongoing conversation about stuff that I find interesting. From that POV, although the acknowledgement provided by award noms is always warming, it is the interaction around a story that makes all the difference. Awards are fun – but it is readers who keep the Muse coming back again and again...

Am I very bad for letting the nomming go right past me? I did peek into the thread about it, but I just can't bring myself to nominate anything when there's so, so very much I haven't read. I mean, how then can I decide which story should be up there in the lists?

I was surprised though to see that it doesn't matter if a story is finished or not. I think I had kinda expected that it's about finished stories.

I like that notion of writing as a conversation. There are so many interesting ideas to work with in sci-fi and fantasy, and it's fun to see everyone's different take on it. I think that what makes Star Wars particularly fascinating is that it has the classic sci-fi debates (are droids persons?), as well as mythology (Luke as an example of the hero archetype), spiritual debates (the Force and what it means), and philosophy. Basically, it has everything.

I don't mind writing stuff just for me and my own goals, but even one reader's feedback makes me very happy!

Thanks Breezy.

Had plans for some writing on DNA I.D. before going to the meeting of the fire dept but the pager interfered.
A large train had trouble and with 550 man aboard that was work for us getting them out one by one through the door that was accesible by a platform made from a ladder.

Writing is therapy. It's fun. I enjoy it. That's all I need to know. tongue When I'm particularly stressed, I'll tell everyone to leave me alone and give me a little "me" time, which they know means I'm going to hog the computer and write. laugh But if Mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy. So they shut up and leave me alone! wink

That was a rule we all lived by when I was growing up, and when acknowledged, everyone was a lot happier. tongue

Work is ridiculously slow this morning, to the point where we actually had a request roll in and one of my coworkers yelled "DIBS!!" Yes, we are mature professionals in this room. grin Hopefully it will stay this slow, though, as the director for our film is meeting with as many people from our department as can make it this afternoon, and we think that we should have higher priority on meeting the director than people on other shows. tongue Usually we're too busy to even think about leaving the room for that long, but I think today we might be able to pull it off.

So I'm taking an intensive Hindi class this summer. I thought to myself, class from 8:30-1:00; I will have so much time!

I guess I missed intense in that title. Homework shall eat me alive. It's fun and frightening at the same time how fast the class moves.

Life is definitely not as slow as I wanted it to be. There is fanfiction that needs to get written and costumes to be sewn. Silly classes getting in the way of my hobbies.

Although, I can't say I'd want slowness like DWH has either.

I thought I was going to have a slow summer since I wasn't getting hired in the economy. Nobody wants to hire anybody under 18. sad My aunt's lupus has flared up and she asked to hire me as her house cleaner. I accepted and decided to put out flyers advertising house cleaning/yard work/errand running services.

Several people called, including my church. Our janitor hurt his back and will be out for a few months. They hired me! grin Not very many people would be happy with vacuuming and scrubbing toilets, but hey, it's a job! Now I hardly have any down time.
