I was always good for about two days. And then I'd start to miss them too much to enjoy myself. tongue Now, of course, that isn't the case. They can leave for months at a time, and while I DO miss them, I can get along just fine without them too! laugh

Oh wow! Sounds like you had a busy day...

Takianna, I humbly suggest that your mommy vacation should include a spa and a pitcher of margaritas. happy

I really want to take the ferry to visit my parents this weekend. They live in a nice little beach town with lots of hiking trails nearby. But I know I should stay home and clean my apartment. cry Even the bugs are starting to move out in disgust.

First of all, earlybird, wow. *blinks* That sounds amazing.

Re: Awards. I boycotted them for a couple of years but now I wait until it's time to vote and read through all the excerpts. I don't always vote in every category and since I hardly hang around here anymore, I figure any fic that has a good enough of an excerpt to get me to read the entire thing deserves my vote.

I generally write for myself. I always have a story in my head -- often many at a time. And if I ever want to get it out of my head, I have to write it down, at least the scene that keeps on repeating itself in my head. Of course, once that scene is written out, another scene takes its place. My main fandom at the moment is microscopic -- every review is great because of the lack of readers. I've written several pieces that haven't gotten any reviews. *shrugs* Yes, it was kind of disappointing. But it really made me realize how much I enjoy the actual writing process. Writing... shouldn't be a chore. I don't think anyone can say that the reaction of others doesn't matter, but I think it's more important that you enjoy what you're writing.

Sue, I had to laugh at the bugs comment. Totally know the feeling. *grins*

Takiana, enjoy the time without the kids! I second Sue with the spa. At the very least, do something you've been dying to do but can't when the kids are around.

My parents both have small children -- my mom and step-dad have my sister who is three, and my dad and step-mom have my sister who is four-turning-five. They both have a long time before all the kids are out of the house. And I live in a different country to boot! But computer-to-computer/phone calling is a brilliant invention. Totally saves me a bundle calling from Europe.

Total congrats on the job, Berry! You're definitely right: a job is a job.

Idrelle! *hugs* Almost nineteen already? *gasp*

Kim, congrats on the grandbaby... even if it is almost a year late... *blushes*

Their grandmother is coming to get them for two weeks. They got to her house and do things that they don't tell me about, but that is okay because the less I know, the less I worry. Yesterday the youngest lost one of his front teeth and now the other is loose. Trying to get that out before they leave. I would hate the toothfairy to not know where he was.

Margaritas here I come!

I bet I'm not the only one to be getting this heat wave. I've never had to go a summer without air conditioning before, and this makes me realize how spoiled I am by it. Sleeping when it's hot... pretty difficult.

Though I did discover that a juicy apple on a hot day is almost heavenly. Now that I've realized that, I'd almost rather have an apple than ice cream or something like that.

How does everyone else beat the heat?

Beat the heat? I do it the old fashioned way in Florida.....

#### #### #### AIR CONDITIONING #### #### ####

I signed up for Netflix and I'm getting all the episodes of 'Mad Men' that I missed. What a great show that is. It's not the kind of thing I'm fan-fic fannish about, but what a great show.

On to getting all the films that Ewan McGregor is naked in..... kiss

It's an interesting show. I hadn't heard of it until reading a Vogue article on period-dressing, nerd that I am. I'm going camping this weekend.

Here's a trick I picked up on WikiHow when the first major heat wave came through like, a month ago (bizarrely, I think I have more reasonable temperatures than you do at the moment): freeze some 2-liter bottles of water, stick them in a bowl, and place them in front of your fan. They'll cool the air immediately around them, and the fan will help blow the cool air into the room.

Air conditioning is something I didn't have last summer, but I was far enough north and practically surrounded by water so it didn't make a difference. This summer... I will definitely miss having it. No doubt about that.

I don't think I could live without AC, although there was one summer that ours was broken.

So... the news here says that Farrah Fawcett just died. This makes me feel very old. sad I suppose that's why she and Ryan got married? They DID just get married, didn't they? Or am I imagining news reports again. tongue

EDIT: Okay, they didn't get married, but apparently they were talking about doing so soon. I feel really bad for her family, especially her son who is in jail. He's still there, as far as the news reports go.

That's too bad. I feel so sorry for her family. She was very courageous in her battle.
