Ah, I thought there was something odd about your post, striker tongue

The movie wasn't lacking good lines, I'll admit that. Although the first one you quoted seemed a bit out of character to me. Or, rather, it would have seemed out of character if they had given Optimus enough of a character to be out of. Know what I mean? Like, he was being a bit overly macho/egotistical there. Then again, the first third of the movie is about the Autobots and human redshirts hunting down and murdering innocent, terrified Decepticons, so maybe it fits.

There were also some really impressive action sequences (thanks, ILM grin ), and the film had a totally solid sense of scale that you rarely see when dealing with giant robots. And Optimus fought Megatron with a tree, which I've always wanted to see a Transformer do, so kudos on that. But, again, I'd rather be giving kudos and how awesome the story was, regardless of its explosion count.

Rau - how long did you watch SM3 before you left? I think if you leave before the halfway point, you're allowed to ask for your money back.

Actually, Yodimus, I found movie Prime's character to be quite similar to his G1 character... all thirty billion iterations of him. wink And terrified Decepticons? plain Dude, they were in league with a guy who wanted to tap into the sun and drain it dry. They were bad guys!

This isn't G1 or some other version of it. Thsi is TF with an almost... logical viewpoint on their Great War. Kill or be killed. Demolisher just transforms and starts chucking oil barrels, rampaging through Shanghai. COnsidering what they did in LA two years ago, shot first is the only option against them.

Raksha was wrong. wink

You know, I was wondering about that whole 'destroys the sun' thing. I think it's a level III civilization that outgrows the energy needs its solar system can provide for it, yes? That sort of jives with the tech advancedness of the Transformers. Hell, at the height of their war-initiated expansionism, I bet they were stringing Red Giants together like so many batteries dropped in a flashlight. But at the same time, with their entire species becoming decentralized over time and the civil war having heavily depopulated them, I'm not entirely sure either group would even require the energy output of a single planet at the moment, let alone a whole star. At least, there was no evidence put forward in the film - via a shot of some giant, dormant fleet of warships, or similar - to suggest this. I know there was the whole protoform 'continuation of our species' argument (sort of), but I really don't buy it. If that was the case, and they really did need that energy to power themselves, they'd all be dead by now (or living on very borrowed time). Either the Decepticons suck at math, the Fallen just irrationally hates Earth (which is a totally valid possibility, but, again, never indicated outside of the generic "Im a bad guy" routine. And with the whole pharaoh get-up, you almost wonder if he'd rather us be his loyal, expendable subjects venerating him as a god..), or the story forgot to tell us something, the way the first movie forgot to tell us why Megatron landed on Earth in the first place.

I don't mind clever methods by which to establish a story for a sequel, but it feels like they're hiding things from the audience because they haven't thought of them yet, rather than because it's "all part of the plan." So to speak.

And yeah, I know Optimus has always been heavily proactive (or some variation thereof...in his thirty billion iterations tongue ), but - and maybe I'm wrong - I also view him as a pretty big team player. Even in the versions that make him out to be a total dick. And that whole scene (which happens right after a scene where at least two other Autobots are present...how do they even get from the city docks to the woods so fast anyway? Don't answer that) is ONLY Optimus, alone, against the other Decepticons, which felt a lot like a specific choice he made. Like, 'this fight is between me and Megatron', and then Megatron brings along friends, which is kinda "Well DUH", and so I really, really didn't feel sorry for him being outnumbered, and his line basically confirmed those intentions for me. He overestimated his abilities, and it was an amateur mistake that I would have expected from Bumblebee or Jazz (may God rest his thug soul), but not a Prime. This wasn't his story and he didn't learn a lesson from it, so all it did was paint him negatively. Although, his wrist swords were pretty cool. I like how he can forge melee weapons inside himself on the fly. It's too bad they didn't explore that further.

As for the Decepticons being the bad guys, I prefer how "Transformers: The Movie" portrayed them, where Unicron was the Big Bad and the Decepticons were just shown to be an opposing faction. One that might have misinformed ideas about how their culture should be run, but still has a stake in trying to make things work out for the best. Wrong, yes; violent, yes; but evil, no. These Decepticons are just flat evil and I have trouble accepting that.

[edit] My logic for calling Demolisher terrified is that he acted just like a frightened foraging animal does when attacked. First it bites as hard as it can, and if that doesn't work, it runs as fast as it can. Not that Demolisher in any way resembles a chipmunk, but the state of mind seemed the same.

Okay, I'm being mean. My son had a daughter last year with his ex-girlfriend. The granddaughter has been a joy, but her mother...not so much. She's bipolar and doesn't stay on her meds, which can make dealing with her a challenge. tongue Anyway, she's Maddie's mom so we try to get along because we love Maddie.

Anyway, last Christmas the ex told Eric he couldn't see his daughter again (after his Christmas visit) and so Eric got a lawyer to get his parental rights outlined. All along he's been making child support payments (1/3 of his salary). Amber (baby mama) kept telling him how the courts were going to double his support payments, give her back child support - never taking into account the fact that he wasn't required yet to make payments as there was no court order. He did so because it was the right thing to do and he loves his daughter and wants to do what's best for her. Anyway, the paperwork came back from the attorneys yesterday and the state awarded her LESS child support than he was paying. laugh She hasn't gotten the news yet, and I'm waiting for her to blow up his cell phone when it does.

She pissed me off two days ago when she called him a dead beat dad. Yeah, he was so irresponsible that he went and joined the Army to provide for his daughter. I can see what makes her so mad. rolling_eyes Okay, done being mean now. tongue Kinda. Sorta. grin

hugs Vadey...

Well, I have something a bit sunnier to share... A couple of weeks ago I heard the rumor that Star Wars: The Exhibition was coming to Argentina (it had been in Brazil and Chile in the past year). Not only the rumor was confirmed, but through a very peculiar chain of events (some people may say it's the Force, even :P) I found out last monday that I won an invitation for the opening party, next thursday evening! grin I still can't believe it.

Oh wow, Golden, that's awesome! grin Enjoy yourself (like you need someone to tell you that).

And actually, I thought it was good news. I'm happy to see an end to the paperwork in sight. And how he has his rights as her daddy outlined and legal. No more mind games. tongue

I'm glad things worked out in your son's favour. grin His ex sounds crazy- if you want, I can chase her around with my lightsaber for a little bit. Maybe that'll scare her into (semi) submission. tongue

So, production decided that when they said we could do away with the night shift, they were just kidding. So I was shifted back to start my shift at 5AM. Yesterday was my first day working those hours, and immediately following work I had to pack up the remainder of my belongings, load them up into my car and a friend's car, and drive them down the road to her place that I am subletting for the next couple of months. I think I got about four hours of sleep last night. beatup However, I have copious amounts of Mountain Dew. And I yoinked the one chair that actually has a head-rest, so I've been kind of half dozing off.

Is it wrong of me to be looking forward to being laid off? Because at this point, unemployment is looking really nice. tongue

We actually did get some rights outlined in the parenting plan. We get to have her for his regular visitation times when he's deployed. grin dancing

And unemployment CAN be nice. It was great to have my husband home. For about two weeks. Then the glow wore off and I wanted him to go somewhere. ANYWHERE. Just not home. Or near me. laugh

Problem solved- I'm not married. grin

I will probably go stir-crazy after a couple of weeks, but I already know where I'm sending out my job applications. And one of the companies is really expanding production right now, so they need people like whoa. I'm hoping that great need coupled with my six months of insanity- er, production experience- will get me a job.

Golden_Jedi you are so lucky! That is the force at work there! You must share piccies? batting

Vadey, glad all those technicalities are figured out with Maddie now, I can't believe its been nearly a year! shock Feels just like yesterday.

DWH, you got a laugh out of me about the first Transformers being an extended demo reel, so true. tongue The people at ILM put so much dedication and detail into their work, its a shame that it's being squandered on fan boy plots.

Ish, good luck for the game, hope the weather is good, and who are you backing?

What I think Transformers really does earn in its own right is the sound design. All the moving parts of the Autobots and the voice work is some of the best sound design I remember hearing. I would never have known Megatron was done by Hugo Weaving! applause

Going to pick my two little ones up after work happy . It's been a nice two weeks, but boy does it go bye quickly. Can't wait to see them though, I bet they've grown a few feet, well at least it will seem like it. So much for silence at our house. Let the loudness return!

Had a great time on vacation in Iowa. Can't wait until next year to go back!
