We didn't.

More on the Jareo Incident.

And some more.

Round up from Club Jade.

And there was a thread about it here in resource, too... Playing in George's Sandbox?

Here's an easier way to read all CJ's Jareo posts. (Thanks for the link, BTW!)

The NPR piece might be positive, but self-publishing a fanfic on Amazon is still one of the dumbest things I've ever seen anyone do in fandom.

Alas, poor Jareo... We can presume she knows better now, but I don't think the internet (or at least Google) will ever let her forget this.

Not that it wasn't an epically stupid act on her part to begin with (particularly that FAQ/interview thing that Scalzi skewered... Oye vey.) but I do have to respect her for not coming out swinging in response. It was precisely the right reaction, given how hard we dogpiled her...

(Oh, and a warning on the second link on DaenaBenjen42's post - Lee Goldberg is pretty semi-internet-famous for hating any and all fanfic. It's his thing.)

And here's the FFR thread. I'd be sure to read Making Light's followup post - a lot of great commentary on fanfic in general there, both in the original entry and the (905!) responses.

I know there was a thread about it.

I just didn't run across this piece from NPR radio anywhere during that whole thing.

I'm NOT supporting what Jareo did.

All I'm saying is, somebody actually said this on NPR! Holy cow...

If it's already been linked to and I missed it, just lock this.

It wasn't very good, pretty standard Sueing of a character that was barely on screen. Nothing remarkable, in any case.

I might still have the PDF version on my PC, but no guarantees.

Uh, not me. From what's online, the story is about how Luke's Naberrie cousin is an insider on the Death Star and helps the Rebellion. Can you say Mary Sue?

The only reason why I've ever looked at any Mary Sue is to pick at them, which is not very nice, and I don't do it online. And why bother paying for someone's Mary Sue, when there are so many for free online?

The fact that this book was abortively self-published just means that the author had more money than sense. There's nothing special about that.

If there's more discussion on this, should be unlock the earlier thread?
