I'm currently working on a bit of a horror fic at the moment and I'm curious as to how many others are interested in writing horror. With Death Troopers out this week (in the UK), it seems like it might be a good time to start a horror index. It's just an idea at the moment, but I'd like it if we could get something going.

Who'd be interested in doing this?

I've written some SW horror, but also took a year of horror, sci-fi and mystery writing class in high school. I'd be interested.

Sounds like a good idea. I've written several SW horror stories and I could name a few others. Obviously it's a bit of a fringe genre for the fandom, what with the fact that the films were lacking Luke consulting the Necronomicon before facing Vader or Obi-Wan getting jumped by zombies (though whether those exclusions were for the better is a matter of opinion). But there's real potential there, especially when delving into the weirdities of the Force.

Indeed. There are zombies and vampires in the GFFA, and you can have Force users messing with peoples heads to create all sorts of illusions.

the outline for my NaNo will have some horror elements in it and I have written some scary moments in my current story DNA I.D. And there is a horror piece on the fanart boards.

May I ask what what you mean by horror? Are we talking exclusively about paranormal horror like invincible serial killers, dream haunting nut cases, zombies, werewolves etc or would an index include horror fiction that is more human related like The Wicker Man or Straw Dogs?

I ask mainly because I'm writing a 'horror' fiction based on these sorts of films because I'm kind of fed up with being bombarded with the numerous supernatural horror related media that seems to be in fashion at the moment. Even my favorite zombie film, 28 days later, is grounded in more human horror than the shuffling undead kind. laugh

If this potential index isn't titled "HorroriFic," I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

My best SW horrorfic was just a guy being visited once a year by the people he mass-murdered as an Imperial officer. So it takes all kinds.

I love that film. love

What I mean by horror is rather loose, I guess. For now I'll go with anything that scares you and is TOS legal. It is very subjective though, I found Final Destination to be a barrel of laughs and that's supposed to be a horror film. It's like in the Harry Potter books, one character is a werewolf but he's not in there for scares, he's even one of the good guys.

So if you're trying to scare someone or writing with the hopes that it will, then it's good enough. happy

Star Wars can do very well with horror fics, but the definition of 'Horror' can be squishy. It isn't just body count, ghosts and unexplained stuff that makes horror. Most of the saga has some of those at various times. I've written a few fics that I'd call horror. For me, it's that element of dwelling on death, life and such that makes it horror in SW. And in general, the whole story should have an element of fear in it; that really makes it horror.

I've never written anything horror-like before. Besides one or two rather bloody scenes but I wouldn't even count that as horror. For me, horror means getting scared or scaring people. I'm not into all the gory stuff that's been dubbed horror in the past twenty years.

It's not scary anymore. Just needlessly bloody, imo.

Thanks for the links, by the way. The Force Vampire sounds freakishly cool, the energy Vampire too.
Although I'm more of a blood sucking kind of Vampire loving gal. mischief
