I don't know the format of the dating system used in SW. I remember reading somewhere, though, that Palpatine changed the scale when he formed the Empire, then the New Republic changed it again. I seem to remember Luke or someone complaining about the mess that caused.

No clue as to the passage of time in ESB. I'm curious about that one too.

I'm thinking at least a week, but that's a guestimate. When I get home, I'll check the ESB novel and all my info to see if I can figure it out.

The Empire did use a Pre-Empire-Date/Post-Empire-Date system.

The New Republic uses a Before Battle of Yavin (A New Hope) / After Battle of Yavin.

As for the time of ESB, the Technical Commentaries say this:

Typical distances between neighbouring star systems are a light year or several light years. Therefore even if Anoat and Bespin are particularly close, the Millennium Falcon must have spent at many months (probably just over a year) engaged in sublight travel, according to standard galactic time (measured on Coruscant). The ship's occupants probably did not experience so much shipboard time, since a sufficient relativistic acceleration while in transit will give rise to natural time dilation, even if starships don't come equipped with temporal compression devices akin to artificial gravity technologies. This potentially long duration has the advantage of allowing Luke Skywalker plenty of meantime for training with Yoda on Dagobah, making his evidently significant increase in Jedi proficiency seem much more realistic.

But I believe that the generally accepted time for ESB is 2 or 3 weeks.

Well, I've got the same question for TPM. I've had some answers before on other threads, but I'd love a more specific idea. I always thought a few days, until I started thinking about travel time... So, anybody got any info on the length of time covered by TPM?

Thanks, Thrawn!

Here's another question: what rank would Panaka have held before being appointed Captain of the Royal Guard? And would he be the only person in the RG to have that rank? I know absolutely nothing about military ranks, so I'm appreciate some help on this. happy

In the Army, the rank before Captain is Lieutenant (specifically, First Lieutenant).

I'm not sure how that works for Star Wars though.

Allright, I know Mara and Luke are married and they are Jedi. But does anyone know if Jedi marrigaes took place in the old Republic? Was it allowed? Was it frowned upon but not forbiden? That's my question.

http://www.theforce.net/swtc is probably the web site with the most info about STAR WARS. While it can't answer all the questions, it provides the answer to many.

In STAR WARS, that is correct for the Imperial Army. But the Navy is quite different. Before Captain, comes Commander. But there is also a Line Captain, which is just slightly higher in rank. He is in command of a naval line. A naval line is the smallest Navy element consisting of more than one ship.

P.S. I know a lot about the ships of STAR WARS.
