Oh, did anyone see the Academy Award nominees? LOTR got robbed on a few of them. How can Peter Jackson not get a best director nom?! At least Star Wars got one...

And yay! Chicago, one of my new favorite movies got 13! I'm Velma and my friend is Roxie...

I couldn't stop humming "All That Jazz" today at school... tongue

Princess; Hmm, I think my bf has tried one or two of those lines on me.... tongue

Don't worry, Dot, you'll get it right eventually. wink

Nikita: Excellent and Congrades! And it isn't possible, just do the best you can. Hope you feel better soon.

Excal: I noticed your thread around, just wanted to let you know that I shall be reading, though probably not repling, I've gone to lurkdom these days... But it does sound awesome, to be sure. Yes, this belongs in your thread, but hey. grin

LOTR got robbed! Ahhhh! Why can't they see, Jackson is too good! WWwwwhhhhhhyyyyyyy?!!!

(coughs) Sorry bout that, a little obessive, as always.. Oh, I've come to this strange conclusion, I may be putting The Harem Stories on the JC, people will know the Fortress better here, though considering the only SW element in it is Xan, but hey, you girls inspired me to right this strange thing... tongue But perhaps not....

Neon, wow! We inspired a story? LOL, who would've thought our obessive-boy-fighting days would lead to such a work!

LOTR got robbed? You call a best picture nomination robbed? If you want to talk about robbed look no further then our beloved Star Wars. I can't understand how anyone in their right mind could not nominate John Williams for best original score. Across The Stars alone should have won it for him. I tell you, if it weren't from Star Wars the Academy would have welcomed it with open arms. Grrrr.

TGY- I can understand why AOTC wasn't nominated for anything else. We're biased because we're fans, but the performances weren't THAT great. If anyone could even come close to getting a nod for a performance in the film, it would be Ewan for Best Supporting, but he can't compete with the people who actually made it. It was a good but not great performance. As for score, a new rule was instituted disallowing soundtracks with less than 80 percent new material, and AOTC probably is in that bracket. So no Oscar nods for the Potter, Indy or SW movies in the future.

And besides, if you wanted a quality movie in Star Wars- the Empire Strikes Back is the best. If you want quality in the prequels, and this pains me to say so, but The Phantom Menace was a better movie than attack of the clones. AOTC was just fan pleasing action.

TPM had a better plot, more intrigue. If you can look past Jake Lloyd and just accept that Jar Jar is funny, then it's good.

But the Gungans/Battle droids fight at the end? eh. The siege of the palace- eh. Battle of the space- eh.

Lightsaber fight- best in the trilogy.

In AOTC... prisoner escape- cool. Lots of Jedi in action- cool. Jedi and clones versus battle droids- neat. Anakin/Obi Wan versus Dooku- eh. Yoda versus Dooku- Fan pleasing, if not a little ridiculous.

We liked AOTC better because of the fight scenes. *shrugs*

Neon: Yea, lol, I've had a few of those lines tried on me as well...guys are funny sometimes.
All of us fighting over guys inspired a story? Whoa! How cool, we're famous! wink tongue

yoda: AMEN! How AOTC could not get best score nominations I have no idea, John Williams is a genius.

Jaxx: Yea, I admit, we are rather biased as far as Star Wars goes, but AOTC really didn't deserve some of the bad rap it got.
I have to admit, I liked it far better then TPM. The TPH didn't do much for me, although the lightsaber battle with darth maul is the best battle in the triolgy, overall I liked EPII better.

Of course neither one compares to ESB. ESB is a master peiace. Of course, Harrisson Ford is a better actor then Hayden Christensen is or probably ever will be, I'm sorry to say. Han Solo is my all time favorite character, no contest.

While I agree that the acting in the Star Wars movies are only good and not great I wasn't refering to the acting [Gutter Monkey wants me to remind you that Jake Loyd is the Devil Personified]. I was refering to the music and technical achivements. But because it is Star Wars and because Star Wars isn't considered serious enough [and also because it is very stylish to bash SW if you are a critic] it will never get it's chance. And Jaxx, AOTC kicks ass. Period. I forgive you for saying otherwise. But don't go there again or I will defend it full out.

If you really think Hayden Christensen's acting was good and the movie had zero dull moments...

Then we might have problems tongue

It's not fashionable for critics to bash AOTC; they bashed it because it wasn't that great. When ANH came out- rave reviews. When ESB came out- rave reviews. When ROTJ came out- eh.

TPM- disappointed reviews. AOTC- all out bashing.

Yes, I agree Jake Lloyd has no place in the SW universe, which is why I said "... if you IGNORE Jake Lloyd, TPM is a better movie overall"

Granted, AOTC has better fight scenes and more action- I'm not denying that. But as far as ACTING and PLOT goes, TPM is better.

LOL, actually, Jaded, Princess, it wasn't actually the boy fighting, it was the boys. Heh, remember when we all had our own sec of guys? Princess, you still have Legolas, amazing. Well, that is what The Harem Stories are based on. Basically, since I'm too chicken to write the memebers of our beloved Fortress, I wrote my guys. tongue Though I wouldn't mind trying to write the Fortress early history in story format for the heck of it. I'd add anyone who asks for a walk on role. wink Forgive me if I'm not making sense, my brain is fizzing out because I'm sick...

Yes, Yoda, LOTR got robbed. Its not getting best picture, again, because its Fantasy, and we all know how they like fantasy.
And I won't comment about AOTC.

Here's a small sec of THS, though its a slight bit different from the ff.n model. I was going for humor, but my humor sucks, and such...

The Harem Stories

In the early year of the rising of the great and powerful Fortress, otherwise the year of 2002, the fiery and destructive Empress, soon to be named Exiled Empress for reasons untold, and won’t be told here,(Possibly because there was already another Empress there…) gathered a large group of male beings after the example of her fellow great Fortress women. But tis, a cry raised up for her to return those beings, and so she did, though she kept the best among them.

Glor: (Don’t be a fool, Xanatos, she chose those that were less in demand.)

Xan: (Shut up, Glorfy.)

Glor: (It’s Glorfindel!)

Xan: (Whatever.)

This is my last rant on the AOTC issue I promise.

Hayden's acting was servicable. It wasn't bad enough to ruin the movie in my opinion although it wasn't great either. I think the problem with the prequels is fan expectations. With the first three movies Lucas had no expectations to live up to except his own. ANH was a wonderful movie that came from out of the blue. It wasn't with out its flaws. For instance there was still some bad dialogue ["Darth Vader, only you could be so bold."] but it was so new and original that we ignored it. BTW, there were some critics that bashed it. I've read one where the reviewer said that the only way he could watch the movie was without sound due to horrendus dialouge. Another compared it to spending an entire day at an amusement park "Entertaining for children but draining to anyone over 12". ESB and ROTJ had high expectations but there was still the built in doubt that comes with sequels. But Lucas does it. He makes lightning strike three times and SW becomes a major cultural icon. There are millions of fans who all think Star Wars films are a thing of the past and continue living in the SW universe through fan fics, comics, novels, fanzines, and games. Then, God knows how many years later [I think it was around fifteen] Lucas says he is working on a whole new trilogy. This is mana from heaven to all fans! The impossiable has happened! The frenzy begins, we look at every new production photo that surfaces, we scan the teaser frame by frame more times than is sane, we speculate, and argue, and speculate some more. Every single Star Wars fan had thier own opinion on what was going to happen. There is no way that ANY movie by ANY writer/director will please every one of his millions of fans. When I went to see Phantom Menace I took it with a pinch of salt. I knew that it wouldn't be what I had come up with. I knew it would be what GL had envisioned for years and that wether I liked it or not it would be the way SW was supposed to be because it came from the mind of its creator. And you know what? I liked it! I immedatly respected the regal Qui-Gon Jinn, I liked the brash young Obi-Wan, I [along with every other male] fell in love with Queen Amidala, I throughly enjoyed Jar Jar's gags [except for the fart jokes], and nearly fell out of my seat during the final lightsaber battle. I think the reason why I was not dissapointed was because I went in and left all expectations at the door. If I came in wanting the prequels to be exactly what I'd dreamed of for most of my life of course I would have been dissapointed. I have a feeling that if the prequels had come out first and we'd waited nearly twenty years for ANH you would be hearing the same complaints. And that's a real shame.

So in the end, I haven't found a bad Star Wars movie yet. Argument closed. Peace out, Let's change the subject.
