I have a story idea that involves a labyrinth full of traps and riddles. The only problem is, I'm not good at thinking up such wonderful enigmas. So I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me?

I guess, if necessary, this could be a collaberation piece. There's always room for discussion.

Thanks for any and all help offered!! grin

Weeelllll, p'raps if we went on guidelines from, say, "The Hobbit" or "The Goonies", we could come up with some pretty nasty traps and tough riddles. A labyrinth full of booby traps, eh? This sounds like my kind of idea. happy What sorts of traps do you have in mind?

Here the basic section that I am talking about in this paritcular plot:

A man has placed Obi-Wan in a "Labyrinth" in order to deem if the boy is worthy. I know it sounds lame but there's more. He is told that if he makes it through, his and Qui-Gon's life would be spared. If not they were his forever. I'm not sure if I should put a time constraint on it, since that is the norm in such cases. But he needs to get past traps and riddles to progress to the center.

I know it really does sound a lot like the movie, but the reasoning behind all this is derived from something completely different. And completely nausiating. It was from something I read in the Tripod Series by John Christopher that has stuck with me for a very long time, and has been beckoning to be revisited. If you want to know more, I'll PM you since I'm not sure I want to totally reveal my plan until it is time.

Whoa, sorry to write a lot. hehe. blush

Here are a few good riddles to get you started!

What word, when you add two letters to it, becomes smaller?
~Small or short

What begins with T, ends with T, and has T in it?
~Teapot.

A word I know, six letters it contains. Subtract just one, and twelve is what remains.
~Dozens.

The more you take, the more you leave behind. What are they?
~Footsteps

What object has keys that open no locks, space but no room, and you can enter but not go in?
~Keyboard or computer

Therein lies the secret that there is a 7-letter word in the English language that contains 11 words without rearranging any of its letters. What is the word?
~Therin. It makes: the, there, re, he, in, rein, her, here, ere, therein, herein.

What is the exact same shape as an elephant,(and it isn't a model of one or a baby)but weighs a lot less?
~Its Shadow (you can always use Bantha!)

Rearrange these letters to make a single word: DRAGON LEWIS
~A single word.

What is so fragile that when you say its name, you break it?
~Silence.

What ancient invention, still used today, allows people to see through walls?
~windows

"At night they come without being fetched,
And by day they are lost without being stolen."
~the stars

"I never was, am always to be,
No one ever saw me, nor ever will
And yet I am the confidence of all
To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball."
~tomorrow

"Runs over fields and woods all day
Under the bed at night sits not alone,
With long tongue hanging out,
A-waiting for a bone."
~a shoe

"The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place."
~the letter e

I don't know if you can use all of these, but they can start you off! happy and a booby-trapped maze does sound cool.

Well, here are some riddles I made up; I have a few ideas for Obi's obstacles and his chances of defeating them. If these riddles are of interest, I'll PM you the ideas. happy (More to come, if you like 'em.)

It runs with several dozen feet,
Cracks in the cold and snaps in the heat.
It can help you across this bottomless pit,
But also it can roast you on the spit.

You face the fates,
The lance awaits.
But a creeping stem
Can open the gates.

How sharper than a serpent's tooth
Can death become in this deep booth?
You may find your true depth,
And find yourself beneath your death.

WOW, Arldetta, that sounds like it's gonna be a spectacular story! I love riddles. Now I only have one to offer, it's: What becomes bigger when you take more away from it? (a hole) but this is a great idea! I can't wait to read it!

How bout, at one point, it has the classic "I either tell all lies, or all truth." Guy. Heres a twist on such a person/creature.

"I tell either All of truth or all of false.Take one path left or right. The right one is left. The left one is right.Choose. one is correct." spoke the little toydarian.

I paused. I had to think. what could it be... which one is correct. Then from out of the blue, it hit me.

"BOTH PATHS ARE FALSE!"

Suddenly the paths dissapeared, and a path straight between them appeared. The toydarian appeared quite angry.

"SITHSPAWN!"

He disapeared.

You could always do the classic, "What's in my pockets?" Works every time! tongue

No seriously, I'm not very good at riddles. Seems I lack the creativity that solving riddles requires.

Oh well, I can't wait till you post this story! It sounds awesome! happy

Do you mean verbal riddules or physical challenges?

Try to watch that really old Eighties movie Labyrinth for some good illusions and traps as ideas. Or he recent movie The Mummy for others.

You have to go by order of necessity. First plan out what actual trick you want, how your people have to do to solve it, then compose an annoying word rhyme if that's what you want.

Good luck!
