	Here it is Two posts left after this! *** On the third day of her stay in the infirmary, Lainey was certain all of her muscles had turned to liquid from misuse. With her injured knee, there were only so many positions she could change on the bed, and her legs were starting to fall asleep regularly. Her "room" was hardly private, and voices from the other patients and medical staff kept her awake half the night. Solana seemed to think she needed her own private room, and Armand certainly endorsed the idea, but Lainey hadn't wanted one. Being alone reminded her too much of battle against Eorlin. At least recovering from it anyway, when she'd no longer needed a healer continually. It had been rather boring and lonely when she was actually awake, and she liked the presence of someone nearby. Even if they did snore at night. Lainey pursed her lips, suddenly wondering if Armand snored. What if she did? Would he tell her? Miranda hadn't said anything, but she was a really heavy sleeper. Julie was a light sleeper - perhaps she’d know or at least tell her. Master Horn's head peeked through the curtains. "Morning, Lainey." "Hey," Lainey said, smiling slightly. "You seem a little surprised." "Well, it isn't midday yet," Master Horn said, winking at her. "Thought I'd have to throw some cold water on you." Lainey shook her head. "Sorry to disappoint, Master." Master Horn grinned, taking the chair by her bed, moving it close to her. "I'll get you next time. I spoke to your future in laws today." "About?" Lainey asked curiously. "They've asked that your Knighting ceremony be held on Naboo, and are willing to make the necessary arrangements for it," Master Horn answered, meeting her gaze. "Even to fly anyone you would want to be there." Lainey's eyes widened slightly. "Why?" He smiled. "They would like to honor the apprentices who helped save their world along with the rest of the galaxy." "That would be good," Lainey said, returning his smile. Then a slight twinge in her right knee caused her to frown. She and Armand had been hoping to be married within a few weeks, but anyone she would want at the wedding would be at the Knighting Ceremony, and she could hardly ask them to come back again after just a short time. "You don't seem very happy about it, Lainey," Master Horn pointed out, frowning slightly. "Why?" Lainey shook her head. "I do think it's a good idea, Master." He leaned forward. "But?" "It's just that, well..." She turned her head, blushing slightly. "It means that Armand and I would probably have to postpone the wedding." "I'm not tracking," Master Horn said, raising an eyebrow. "The ceremony would be held pretty soon after we landed." Lainey nodded. "That's the trouble, Master Horn. I could hardly ask the people who came to the Knighting to return to Naboo within such a short period of time." Master Horn frowned. "Six to eight months isn't too short a time. Though a year might be better." "Did you and Mirax wait so long?" Lainey asked knowingly, tipping her head to the side. He didn't answer. "Just how long were you two planning?" Lainey forced herself to hold his gaze. "A few weeks." "Weeks?" Master Horn choked out. "Well, I've worn his necklace two years. We wish to marry, we know we love each other. The Queen has already jumped on preparations, why wait?" Lainey asked. "Looks like we might have to wait because of my stupid knee." She said, sighing heavily. Master Horn smiled, clasping her shoulder. "Sounds good." Lainey raised an eyebrow, unable to tell if he was serious or joking. "Because it could take over a month?" "Or a few days." Master Horn reminded her. "It all depends on the availability of bacta." "So we could marry the day after the ceremony." Lainey mused, grinning at him. Master Horn paled slightly. "Yes." He then reached out, mussing her hair. "So eager to get rid of me, are you?" Shocked, it took Lainey a moment to shake her head. "No," she said, giving him a warm hug. "You could move to Naboo." "It'd probably be easier to convince that Prince to move to Coruscant," Master Horn said, laughing softly. "You and Armand are just going to have to get an apartment in Imperial City." "I'm sure there'll be room at the temple for us when we visit." Lainey said, then bit her lip as she truly realized that they weren't going to be living in the same city or even on the same planet any more. She hugged him again, squeezing tight. "We can wait a six or eight months, Master." Master Horn returned her hug, rubbing her back. "Not on account of me, sweetheart." Lainey nodded, burrowing her face in her his neck. "We'll wait till I can walk." "Until you can walk?" Master Horn asked, pulling back. "Or until your knee heals?" "I don't understand, Master," Lainey said, frowning. He smiled slyly. "If you were to receive bacta treatment now, there'd still be a few days left until we get back to Naboo. With your luck, that's plenty of time for you to maybe sprain or break another ankle, maybe get a little food poisoning..." Lainey pushed him playfully. "Long as I don't spar with you, my ankles should be fine." "You mean as long as you don't think you have a chance of winning." Master Horn corrected her. Straightening up, she interrupted him before he could say more. "Is that a challenge?" Master Horn spread his hands. "See? You're already risking your feet." "No," Lainey said slowly. "I know better than thinking it would take just a few minutes." She paused. "Now." "Years, certainly." Master Horn teased, winking at her. The curtains opened again, admitting Jacen Solo, who was pulling a tray behind him. "Hello, Corran, Lainey." He walked further into the room, making room for Armand who nodded a greeting to Corran, before moving to Lainey’s bedside. Jacen moved to the other side, letting go of the tray long enough to place his hand lightly on top of her right knee. "How are you doing, Lainey?" Lainey winced at his touch. “Fine.” She said, gritting her teeth. He removed the bandage, then gently touched her knee again. “The swelling’s gone down a bit,” Jacen said, removing his fingers as she struggled against flinching. “How does it feel?” “Not so bad,” Lainey answered, which was basically true, until he’d unwrapped it. It was strange how much support the bandage actually held, and how much her knee throbbed without it. She waited for him to rewrap it, but instead he pulled the tray to him, taking her arm. “What’s going on?” “A bacta tank has just opened up for you,” Jacen replied, gripping her wrist. “We need to get you in it as quickly as possible.” Lainey shook her head, then held up her hand as she noticed him pick up an injector. “Wait. There were others ahead of me, what happened to them?” Armand answered, taking her free hand. “They’ve refused to go before you.” “Why?” Lainey asked, frowning slightly. “I’m not so bad off. Tell them I can wait.” “They will not put themselves before their Lady,” Armand said, touching her cheek. “They see it as their duty as deeply as you see yours.” Lainey closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before opening them again and turning to Jacen. “And you’re allowing this, Jacen?” Jacen nodded. “No one will suffer if you go ahead. You know I wouldn’t allow it if it would. “Yes.” Lainey agreed, straightening her shoulders. “ Please send them my gratitude.” Armand blinked, exchanging a surprised glance with Master Horn. Lainey smiled slightly. She could act like a princess. Or, rather, she could at least attempt to. Jacen just smiled. “I will.” He lifted the injector again. Lainey stiffened, holding her hand up. “Wait.” Jacen didn’t replace it this time, giving her a patient look. She moved her arm away from him, recognizing it. It wasn’t like she was avoiding the shot, she just didn’t want to be put out yet. Not before she could talk to Armand. She took a deep breath, turning to look at Jacen, then Master Horn. "Can I speak with Armand for a moment?" They nodded, remaining where they were. She smiled, blushing slightly. "Alone?" Jacen feigned surprise. "Oh. Of course. Alone." He winked at Master Horn. "I guess we could give them a few minutes to...talk." "Right." Master Horn snorted. He nudged her. "I'll be just outside, Lainey." Lainey shook her head, blushing deeper. "Alright, Master." Armand watched them leave, before turning to Lainey. "So, what cannot wait a day to tell me?" "Your parents wish to hold the Knighting Ceremony on Naboo," Lainey started, and he nodded. "They're even willing to fly out anyone who I would want to be there." She took his hand. "Anyone I would want there, I would want at our wedding." He smiled, catching her meaning. "You're suggesting we marry soon after the ceremony?" Lainey nodded, then squirmed slightly, suddenly embarrassed. "Maybe even the day after." "Are you certain you're ready?" Armand asked, touching her cheek. "Yes," Lainey answered, searching his eyes. "Are you not?" Armand smiled, touching his forehead to hers. "I was ready the moment I asked." He stroked her cheek. "But I've not dismissed the option of having Jacen keep you under sedation until the ceremony." Shocked, Lainey pulled back from him. "What? You two actually discussed that?" "Well it would ensure that we marry on time," Armand said innocently. "And save him a lot of work." "Don't you trust me?" Lainey asked, pretending to be hurt. Armand took her hand, kissing her palm. "With my life," he rested his other hand just above her knee. "Just not your ligaments." Lainey raised an eyebrow. "And how will it look that you had to drug me into marrying you?" "Anyone who saw your medical record would understand." Laughing, Lainey nuzzled his neck. "Three visits to the infirmary in a month, and I'm marked for life." Armand wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek. "I'm simply making sure there isn't four. That would be once a week." "That could be considered a good record for a Jedi," Lainey said, stroking his chest. "And to think some people find Jedi to be reckless." "Imagine that," Armand murmured, running his hand up her arm. He kissed the side of her mouth, and she twisted in his arms, looking up at him. "We may be able to keep you awake, provided you avoid duels with Corran Horn." Lainey smiled. "I'm not sure that's possible, it's how we bond." Armand moved his hand into her hair, running his fingers through it. "And is that how you intend for us to?" "Do you think you can take me?" Lainey asked skeptically. "Perhaps in a different arena," he teased, winking at her. Lainey blushed, pushing him slightly. "Armand..." Armand gave her an innocent look, before laughing and kissing her softly. Releasing her, he stroked her cheek. "You're beautiful when you blush, milainey." Lainey smiled, moving her cheek against his hand. "Thank you," she studied his face for a moment, before hugging him tight, pressing her cheek against his chest. He moved his arms around her, softly kissing her temple. Sighing, she pressed closer, knowing their time was growing limited. She felt him stroke her hair, reached her hand up, brushing his hair back, as she met his gaze. He smiled, his deep brown eyes sparkling, and she found herself growing lost in their gentle warmth. Eye contact had always been magnetic for them, and for the most part on the trip she'd been fighting the pull. Now, she couldn't find the strength to do so, and marveled that she'd ever tried. Now, it would be like suppressing the urge to breathe.
