Absolutly Brilliant!

You probably get tired of hearing this, but Post soon.

I have been a lurker for several months now, and I thought that I would add my voice to the chorus asking you to finish this story. Please.

Hi all,

I have decided to go ahead and post what I have. There is a bit of a time skip ahead a few years from where we left off, but I really want to get what is already written out.

Thank you all so much for sticking with me even as DRL graduates into a full blown Sith.

Chapter 71.

Adi leaned back on her chair, stretching languidly in the warm sunlight. A long sip from her frosted glass of Perutoran fruit ice sent shivers down her throat as the sweet frozen drink coolly slid down. The sand beneath her bare feet was warm, so finely ground by centuries of tides that it felt silky soft as she lifted one foot, allowing the clear white grains to slide off.

The briefest whisper of sound beside her announced the arrival of one of the few others who shared this paradise with her. A sapphire blue sarong, brushed with hazy golden palmet leaves, and a midnight black moon wound around lean hips, tied in a loose knot on one side. Like her gold and purple wrap, his material was so finely woven that the sun could shine right through it, and so sheer that his pale skin glowed in contrast. There were no modesty taboos here on the Alderaani islands. The year round sun and tropical climate made such absurd.

Xanatos dropped down beside her, careful to sit beneath the shade of a nearby umbrella that she scorned with the distain of those who knew that their skin was genetically designed for sunlovers. His eyes followed hers to the young man loosely draped over a hammock beneath two leaning palmet trees. “We almost lost him,” he said tensely, memories of the sheer helpless terror he had felt realizing that it was Ben that stood beneath the blazing wreck of the transport, the only thing between him and a fiery death the Force gathered in his outstretched hands.

It had been an ambush, an attack on the very Temple. An small passenger ship plunged into the temple gardens as a few of the senior Padawans exercised with a group of initiates during a scheduled class. The pilot screamed frantically over the comm, but Port Control was too slow to engage the tractor beams.

Ben had tagged along with his friends, visiting Bant and a recovering Dan-Lyn as they watched the initiates. The blond Jedi was getting used to the artificial arm he now wore, his real one lost defending Aayla. The now thoroughly deceased Aurra Sing had set a trap for Master Windu and his Padawan that they had barely escaped with their lives. Only the timely reunion of the Padawan with his hellcat, Fluffy, had saved them, and shredded her all over the spaceport.

As the Jedi heard and saw the uncontrolled ship screaming in toward their location, they reacted instantly. Bant and the others grabbed the children, yelling a warning and sending them dashing for the safety of the buildings. Ben reached into the Force and somehow managed to hold the ship shakily in the air, but it was burning and soon would explode. Bruck, Garen, and Dan-Lyn did not pause, but leapt forward to the burning ship, trusting Ben completely as did Aayla, Kero, and Kashlacca. The Wookiee used his strength to literally tear apart the crumbled walls that held the doors closed, freeing the terrified passengers. The initiates fled to cover with only a few minor burns from falling debris.

“But we did not, and he is healing well,” she said comfortingly. She too had felt that terror of almost losing her Padawan as he had frantically reached for her over their bond. But her fear had been drawn away at the time, ignored in the absolute focus of pouring energy along their bond, feeding it to the younger Jedi, unable to move or even think of leaving her seat in the center of the rapidly emptied Council chamber. Ki-Adi-Mundi had stayed at her side, the Cerean Jedi so strong in the mental aspects of the Force that he was able to join her Master, Yaddle, in aiding her efforts to bolster Ben, despite their lack of anything more than the Council bond.

The rest of the Council had followed Yoda, although not leaping as precipitously out the window of the Council chambers several hundred stories above the garden level, instead using the rapid lifts to reach the gardens. There they had taken over control of the wreck from Ben, containing most of the explosion. The rapidly arriving Jedi in the area had continued to evacuate the children and passengers to safety. Unfortunately, several pieces of shrapnel had spun out of their control, most flying safely into the air. One slipped through just as Ben collapsed, opening his leg up from knee to hip. Bant, almost under his protective body, had started healing him before she finished crawling out from under his limp form.

Xan felt the power flowing so strongly through their bond and came flying in to the Temple. The Council had decided unanimously that his display of Force control during the crisis was more than satisfactory and would be accepted in place of the Force Control section of his trials which had been the only thing remaining to be evaluated.

The ceremony had been beautiful, Adi thought to herself. Ben kneeling to receive the traditional blessing from the senior Councilor, Master Yoda, the entire Jedi body present. Of course, he had missed most of the equally traditional celebration when Bant had seen him turn pale and begin to sway, still weak from blood loss and injury. The Mon Calamari healer had swiftly rushed him off to his quarters, his complaints stifled when she gave him a choice of his bed in his Master’s quarters, or a bed in her ward in the Healer’s wing. Ben had reluctantly allowed her to put him into a healing trance, aided by the solicitous vine curled around him, her leaves protectively spined.

The next day, they had departed for their retreat; the Aidhche detouring by long enough to drop off the handful of passengers and the security force that Lord Chiyari was never without. The Council had approved Adi’s request for a vacation as soon as he was out of bacta. Ben’s friend, Bail Organa had volunteered his private resort on one of the delightful Alderaan beaches. They had come right after Ben’s Knighting Ceremony. Ben had slept through most of the trip, still recovering from the massive trauma of having his leg opened to the bone after a Force effort that would have rejoined most Jedi into the Force, those rare few that could actually have accomplished it. But her young chameleon had settled right into the relaxed attitude of the Islanders.

He slept now, on his stomach, with the flexibility that even the natives admired allowing him to conform to the freely hanging hammock. There were no spreaders on the brightly colored weave, the soft fabric not pulling at his healing leg at all. The young Knight swam each day for several hours, working out the residual stiffness with no weight pulling the healing tissues out of alignment. The salt water toughened his skin, strengthening the scar until it faded, the color dulling from the bright red of the bacta healed injury to a faint white line that belied the severity of the injury.

His bare back glistened with the oil that the attendant had eagerly massaged into the pale golden skin. The young attendants vied for his attention, much to the amusement of his friend who normally had their undivided attention. But Bail was not jealous. Intense and driven as his nature was, jealousy was not one of his faults. He loved sharing and found his greatest enjoyment in the pleasure of others. Ben slept lightly, the sun warming his skin to a rich golden color. His sarong was waded up beneath his cheek, serving as a pillow; one leg slightly bent off of the edge of the hammock, the sun and shadow dappling his body. He looked more a work of art than a living being. Others thought so as well.

Xanatos glanced over at the artist bent intently over his sketches to one side of Ben’s hammock. The man had been walking by, then stopped and dashed off, returning quickly with his tools. Bail had deferred to Adi when the artist had begged permission to capture Ben’s likeness. The Alderaani prince quietly explained that the being, Skreth Alai, was one of the artisans that his mother sponsored. The artist, a Tkktkkt from Krxxsx, was renowned galaxy wide for his glass sculptures. Three dimensional works of color and form captured in such a way they appeared to move within the shell containing them, his works were highly coveted. Of course, if you had the faceted eyes of the insectoid species of the artist, it was said that they were even more riveting.

Adi had granted him permission on the condition that Xanatos be allowed to purchase the one of Ben. Skreth Alai agreed. The important thing was the subject, to be able to express his view of the beauty before him, not who owned it. His hands itched, his tentacles quivered, all six eyes focused intently on the napping incarnation of beauty and life before him. Blues and greens, touches of black and silver, and above all, golden tones, motion and grace, his sketch outlined what he saw. The curve of flank and solid muscularity of shoulder and arm, the silky grace of loose hair glistening in the sunlight.

Ben woke slowly, the warm sun baking the ache from his muscles. A slight breeze brushed his reddened skin gently. He yawned, seriously considering going back to sleep.

“Cubling, come out of the sun before you burn,” Master warned gently. “Dinner will be served in a candlemark or two.”

“Yes Master,” Ben murmured softly through a yawn. Habit drove his speech. She would always be ‘Master’ in his mind, braid or no braid hanging from his head. He lowered his head, just another minute or two. He snuggled into the hammock, so warm, so nice.

“Ben?” Xanatos asked with a softness that should have warned the youth. “Are you coming?”

“Yes sir, just one more minute,” Ben mumbled, burying his face in his discarded clothing. The Force snickered. Ben’s eyes shot open, but too late to do anything about the deluge of icy water that cascaded down his back.

“Yeowwwww!” he yelped, jumping to his feet. That is, he would have jumped had the hammock not decided that it wanted nothing to do with sudden movements and dumped him on his back in the sand. He lay there, wet, sandy, winded from the fall, blinking in total confusion at being so abruptly yanked from his nap. Tourmaline eyes narrowed at the sight of the ebon haired man laughing and holding a bucket. Revenge might not be the Jedi way, but he was a Chiyari as well, if not by birth, then definitely by nature and training. His eyes caught his Master’s discarded drink; the Force cheerfully listened and levitated it. A glob of frosty shaved ice fruit slid slowly out and down a pale back, drawing a muffled gasp. Ben chuckled, then caught the look of vengeance aimed at him and decided to see how well his leg would hold up in a full sprint for safety. He almost had his sarong knotted again, even at a full out run, when his father caught up with him and taught him once again that age and treachery will overcome youth and energy every time.

Adi smiled at the sound of hysterical giggles coming from her Cub as his father tickled him into submission. She leaned in the doorway of their light shelter, watching as her lifelong friend pounced on their child. Beautiful, both of them. The Force had truly blessed her when she decided to tweak a Sabacc hand just a little.
