Okay…here goes nothing. This is my first fan-fic, so be kind. Lemmie know what you think…
*******

Mon Mothma silently surveyed the alliance assembly. Most of the pilots and generals nervously chatted, glancing once and a while over their collective shoulders towards the front of the hall. Lando Calrissian looked regularly at the guards, as if they would sneak up suddenly to arrest him. Wedge Antilles fingered his collar nervously and held his helmet at the ready. Even the usually unflappable Mon Calamari looked decidedly uncomfortable. All of them were more at home in a starship or a fighter than a chamber such as this-all except Leia who easily moved about the chamber reassuring the nervous soldiers….
By the force she is like her mother
The thought came as a surprise, without warning. Thoughts of Amidala had long since been replaced with the faces of so many others lost…but it was true. Every mannerism, facial feature and vocal inflection of the long dead mother was reflected perfectly in the daughter who now stood eagerly near the front row.
Leia had even inherited a penchant for falling in love with mischievous rogues she admitted, noticing the princess' hand brush slightly against the Corelian's arm. Despite herself, Mon Mothma smiled.
How long had it been since she'd let herself remember her closest friend? Too long certainly. The pain of her loss still cut deep.

" promise me Mona, promise me you'll protect her-teach her"
Amidala clutched weakly at her hand, dark eyes pleading...
"promise me…"
She could only nod-the lump in her throat kept her from saying any more. Amidala's grip loosened imperceptibly-her eyes dulled slightly
"don't tell her about me-or her father---promise me"
Again a tearful nod, a squeeze of the hand-all so terribly inadequate-all so futile, but all she could offer before Amidala finally slipped away forever to find the peace this world had stolen from her.

To this day Mon Mothma had kept her promise.
You were right Obi Wan, our friends dying words do damn us all…

Ben. Another box of memories left untouched for years. Another box best left untouched.

So? What d'ya think? Want more? Any suggestions?

Well as badly as I want to make a "Londo" Calrissian joke I won't. (only B5 fans would get it anyway)
That and I would never criticize someone over a typo, when I make dozens every time I post.

Interesting idea about Mon Mothma knowing Amidala.

Ben. Another box of memories left untouched for years. Another box best left untouched.

The ship felt empty, as if something had sucked the very essence of it away, leaving only cold metal and disheartened passengers behind.
Her footsteps echoed hollowly in the corridor-passing crewmembers averted their eyes, and even the droids looked pensive. Darkness had settled on the galaxy, and now pervaded the ship.
Her reverie was broken by the incongrously dramatic complaints of the ship medic, who came scurrying towards her from an adjoining hallway.
"Senator," he panted, "I have been looking all over for you…you MUST come to the infirmary at once."
"I was already headed that way doctor. How is he?"
"Awake. And causing problems…he will let no one into the room. He just sits there and...and…will you speak to him? Get him to let us treat him? It is really quite…"
She stopped listening to the medic as they entered the medical bay. A group of technicians, nurses and junior medics stood frozen at the window to the main trauma room. Inside a lone figure sat slouched on the central table with his back to the window.
"How long has he been like this?"
"Almost an hour ma'am. He woke up, asked for some privacy, then sealed off the room once everyone left" answered a young female medic, "he hasn't moved since".
She moved slowly towards the door, fully expecting to be denied access, but suddenly the door opened, and before thinking, she stepped inside. The door shut behind her as quickly as it had opened, leaving a set of very shocked medics on the other side.
For a while she just stood there, watching his back not quite sure what to say-or what to do. She'd spoken to the loftiest queen, and the lowliest slave in her experience, but today,in this room, she could not speak to the single man sitting in front of her. Fortunately, he broke the silence.
"I will not let you talk me out of it Mona, he has to be stopped. I let him destroy Qui Gon. I let him destroy the republic. I let him destroy Naboo, and now I have let him destroy Anakin. I will not allow him to destroy anything more…I WILL confront Palpatine.." He turned to face her, blue eyes burning with determination and anger.
"Even if it means your life? Even if it means your soul? How far from anger is vengance?" she responded, moving closer to the table with each question, "Would you let Palpatine destroy you too Ben? He killed my family and destroyed the one thing I held most sacred. He has taken my friends from me one by one-and by the force-I will not let him take you too."
His gaze softened slightly, and suddenly he looked very tired-as if the weight he carried had finally become too much to bear. Suddenly, He was not Obi Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight, hero of the Clone Wars…instead he was simply a man who'd lost everything he had ever known or loved-one who'd been betrayed by the boy he had come to see as a son. Softly, almost in a whisper, he responded, "So what would you have me do? Have me sit idly by as he destroys the republic…?" She laid her hand on his and looked solemnly into his eyes.
"The republic is already dead Obi-wan…it died along with the Jedi-along with Anakin. But there is still hope…"
"Anakin's son…" he looked down suddenly, "I will have no part in his training-I will not unleash another Anakin onto the galaxy…"
"Then the emperor has already won..." He glanced questioningly at her, and it was her turn to look away, "That child is the only hope of defeating Palpatine. I can defeat Palpatine politically and in diplomacy…perhaps even militarily, but as long as he controls the force, I cannot defeat him completely. That boy is the only one who can…and you are the only one who can train and protect him."
He simply stared at the bare floor under the table, not acknowledging her words even as she moved back towards the door. He once more assumed the sagged, defeated posture she'd seen him in earlier, although he now faced the doorway.
Disheartened, she made for the door, but before reaching it, he spoke once more-louder this time, and more steady.
"What about you? Where will you go?"
She paused before answering, as if not to hurt him, "Corusant. I can still save some freedoms not already taken, and be a voice for those who have none…"
"He will kill you if you go back"
"No, he won't," She turned to face him once more, and was surprised to see he was standing midway between her and the table, "Palpatine knows that if he kills me, I will become more powerful than he can possibly imagine. A fiery senator's words may be heard, but a martyr's are never forgotten. He will underestimate me though, as he always has. I will not rest until his oppression is removed from the galaxy. If I must build an army and lead it into battle against him-I will"

The assembly bell broke her reverie. and now, almost 20 years later, I
AM leading an army against him
She moved to the center of the room, holding up one hand to call order
"The emperor has made a critical error…."
The briefing went smoothly, with some friendly gibes between Generals Solo and Calrissian breaking the tension intermittently. Still, tendrils of hopelessness wafted through the chamber-no one believed a small band of rag-tag soldiers could defeat the most powerful being in the galaxy…no matter how well-trained or lucky they were. Mothma herself suspected a trap. The emperor had survived on NOT making 'critical errors'. But, as Madine pointed out, this was an option without a choice. A second death star HAD to be destroyed-trap or no trap. As the briefing continued, the tendrils of hopelessness thickened into clouds of defeat, and threatened to choke the room with despair, until the chamber door opened suddenly to reveal the one man who could single-handedly turn a trap into an opportunity-Luke Skywalker.

If I must build an army and lead it into battle against him-I will"
The words hung in the still air of the room, as if frozen. Slowly, he moved beside her, studying her carefully. Finally, he smiled.
"I am sure you will." He lifted a finger, and the door flew open. "And the boy will be your greatest soldier"

I second that Knight Obi Wan! More Classic Tril! More Luke Skywalker!

(What ifs and JA stuff were pretty fun at the beginning, but as time passes and their number swamped they're really getting repetitive and boring, even. It's nice to see something different for a change.)

I'm sure this will interest those of you with practically no budget for 3d software. If you thought Blender was the only free software out there, then now there's Strata Studio also. It runs on both PC and Mac, unlike the earlier versions which were just Mac. There's an online manual at the site aswell. The address it's at is http://www.3d.com http://www.3d.com Apparantly they want people to use it and hopefully upgrade to the pro version.

Also, at http://www.3dark.com http://www.3dark.com they're running a banner ad for a 30 day free evaluation version of Maya. You click on the ad (once it appears) fill out the form, and they'll send it to you on CD. You need Windows NT or 2000 though. But considering the full version costs so much, like $14995 here in Australia, I believe it's well worth trying. Then maybe you can use it to explode a few pod racers like ILM?

Another thing, to keep using this once the 30 days are up, all you need to do is reinstall your operating system and the program again. Although, there may even be a way of clearing it's info from the WinNT registery, to save you reinstalling the OS again. Then again, I don't think you can save anything with it anyway.. but I think it would still be worth getting. I'm just curious to see how it compares with Hash.
