RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
Well, perhaps you thought i have forgotten about Wedge Antilles, who was captured at the battle at ORD Friggas.
Guess what, i didn´t.
So lets see, what happens to the prime-fighter-ace of the Rebels and get a small history lesson about the SolarEmpire.
Enjoy!
The Colliding of Empires
----
"...So that´s him." mused the deep voice. "A little, audacious native from the third world of an insignificant sun. That´s him. Deep-thinking he is, a dreamer and hard against himself. And idealistic! He wants to buildt up, to accomplish the great, but he doesn´t know, what great is. To reach his goal, he reachs out to me. Hello, old friend."
"... Of course you are free to grant other terrans the life-prolonging cell-conservation. You can use the machines according to your wishes. Do you have special requests?"
Rhodan looked over the suddenly tense faces of the people present. With a bitter feeling he noticed the sudden avidity in their eyes. But it was perhaps the most natural effect. Who would have refused a life-prolonging cell-conversation?
In this moment Rhodan realized, that never again he would have to distrust his co-workers. Only he could grant them access to the physiotron.
"Alright, Bully, you are next." he said.
(Perry Rhodan, Hardcover Nr. 3 "The Immortal")
-----
Personal Log Lordadmiral Atlan:
"Two days have passed since the sun of Tholaris has gone nova. The evacuated people from the mining-facility have been dropped on Malvak V and we are now on our way to Coruscant, the capital world of the Empire. Riel Subvas and her two wards are the only persons from the facility still aboard. I´m on my way to another meeting with the leading stuff, where we are going to discuss some discoveries Arno Kalup has made, how we want to further proceed and what is going to happen with the prisoner we captured during the battle at ORD Friggas. According to the medics he is going to awake soon.
-----
Inside "Dantes Inferno´s" sickbay.
Wedge Antilles slowly opened his eyes, trying to figure out, who and where he was. For a moment he felt desorientation at the sight of the unfamiliar room and the strange smells. It was actually his nose, that told him about his where-abouts. Sickbays always seemed to smell the same no matter the species which had buildt them.
"I´ve been injured." he realized and that discovery brought back other memories. Memories of a huge, deathstar-like monstrosity of a starship, a green-glowing kind of shield and weapons, that turned an entire task-force of the rebels into burning wreckages within seconds. A lump formed inside the corellian pilots throat. He had been one of the commanding officers of the disaster-turned mission and so he felt partly responsible. After all, men and women of his squadron had died in this battle, too.
But where was he? He wasn´t inside a sickbay used by the Alliance, that much he could already tell. It also didn´t resemble an imperial med-station and with a cold shiver running down his spine Wedge Antilles came to the only conclusion left.
"I´m aboard of the aliens ship." he realised. They must have taken over his fighter, when he had already lost conscience. And if they were allied with the empire ... .
As a commanding officer at the front-lines Wedge Antilles had always known, that he might die in battle or be captured and that interrogation and perhaps torture awaited him in the second case. Not a prospect he was looking for, since knowing and to be actually in such a desperate situation were two totally different things.
Desperately he let his head drop back into the pillow and tried to get his fear under control, when the door opened with a hissing sound. Turning his head around Wedge saw a tall man enter the room. The man was clad in white trowsers and a white t-shirt, that exposed his strong arms. When he made eye-contact with Wedge a small smile appeared on his face, but his stance remained careful.
"Ah, we´re finally awake." the man stated in perfect basic with only a slight hint of an accent. "How do you feel?"
"Like hugged by a rancor." answered Wedge sarcastically. Only one moment later he was tempted to bite into his own tongue. As friendly as he appeared, the man in front of him belonged still to the enemy. An enemy who was responsible for the death of several thousand rebel-soldiers. Not to mention several capital warships of which the rebels had only few. Wedge didn´t even dared to think about the consequences of the failure at ORD Friggas. If the mission had really been as important as their commanders had said the set-back for the rebel-alliance had to be desastrous.
A curious eye-brow was raised by the man in white, but then he seemed to understand. "Well, i think the equivelant term would be "rolled over by a steam roller". Actually you suffer from a concussion of the brain and the loss of oxygen. Fortunately your injuries weren´t that serious, so you won´t suffer long-term consequences."
Wedge Antilles managed to hide his relief. Even slight damage to his brain could very well mean that he would never fly again. Then he remembered the situation he was in. The decision if he would ever fly again, could have already been made by fate or the force, if he didn´t managed to escape his new "hosts". Despite that he tried to form a small smile on his face. If he could lull his guards ...
"If i´m so lucky i should be grateful." he started slowly. "But where am i? And who are you?"
"To answer your second question first, i´m Doctor Gruber. As to your location ... . You are in sickbay three aboard the "Dantes Inferno", the current flagship of the SolarEmpire."
"SolarEmpire?" asked Wedge cautious, since he had never heard of such an organisation. But because of the word "Empire" in the name he was sure he wouldn´t like it. If this "SolarEmpire" was similiar to Palpatines Empire ... .
"The major power of our home-galaxy." answered Gruber and Wedge was sure to hear some pride in the mans voice.
Not good. Really not good. Then it hit him. The man had said "of our home-galaxy". Did this mean, that Gruber and his people were of extra-galactic origin? And if so, what did they want here? Wedge had already witnessed, what their weapons were capable of and if they were able to travel from galaxy to galaxy other technologies of them had to be on a similiar level. The fear of the man from Corellia suddenly increased dramatically. It would be worse enough, if those aliens allied themself with the empire of Palpatine, but if they were conquerers the in some cases deadly corellian-flu would be replaced by the always lethal death-seed. Suddenly he felt sick, when a low rumble caused Gruber to watch over him with new attention.
"Sounds like one of us is hungry." he stated with a smile. "I´ll make sure you´ll get something to eat."
With that he turned to the exit of the room and left Wedge Antilles alone, the thoughts of the captured pilot a total mess and in uproar.
----
On the other side of the door Dr. Gruber turned to two men, who had been patientely waiting for the medical man. They wore the typical uniforms used aboard terran ships and nobody would have thought them to be any different, than any other member of the crew, if not for a small symbol on their right chest: a luminiscent brain.
This symbol and the members of the group who were allowed to wear it, had accompanied the terran mankind from the beginning of Perry Rhodans rise to power in the year 1971. The survival and independance of earth and its early colonies had heavily been dependant on the ability of the members of this special group to succeed on their missions. So it had been no wonder, that, like every important co-worker of Perry Rhodan many of them had recieved relative immortality. Perry Rhodan had managed to solve the millenia old riddle of the immortal super-intelligence known as "It" or simply "The Immortal". As reward he had gotten access to the artificial world of the nearly omnipotent being and had been granted to decide, who would enjoy a life-prolongating cell-shower and who not. The, from a machiavellian point of view, positive side-effect had been, that from that day on Perry Rhodan never had to distrust his companions since he was the only one who could ensure their continued existance. For more than three-hundred years things had worked without problem until "It" left the milkyway-galaxy during the "Suprahet"-crisis, destroying his world in the process. To make up for this the Immortal spread twenty-five cell-frequency-activators out, that also ensured relative immortality to their wearers and again Rhodan was put into the position to decide, who would get one of the discovered activators and who not.
It had been a hard time for the Grandadministrator and his curses aimed at the gone Super-Intelligence had been uncountable. From one moment to the other Perry Rhodan had been forced to decide, who of long trusted friends and companions over the centuries would die and who not. Even more important, nearly everybody of them was an important figure inside the SolarEmpire, might it be as officer or as scientist. Perry Rhodan had been forced to decide, who of those close to him could be replaced and who not. Not only as personal friend, but also in the interest of the "SolarEmpire". Consequentely most of those, who got one of the incredible valuable cell-activators, belonged to the already legendary "Mutant-Corps".
Two members of this group were now standing outside the cabin of the captured rebel. One of them was John Marshall, the leader of the corps, the other one was a man of average height with a corpulent body. He looked harmless and goodnatured, but was anything but that if necessary. Andre Noir, a terran of french origin was a hypno, a mutant, who could enforce his will on others without them even realizing.
They were here for the first interrogation of their prisoner.
"And, Doctor Gruber?" asked John Marshall.
"He is awake, Mister Marshall." answered Dr. Gruber. "I made some small-talk with him and answered some of his questions, although it seems he became upset by the answers i gave him. I suggest you give him time to calm down a little bit."
"That was our original intention." stated Andre Noir. "We want him to think about his situation, a lot, if possible. That way we´ll get the answers we want much easier. Of course he will try to resist us as much as possible no doubt."
"Don´t worry. We drugged the meal he is going to recieve. That way he should be more cooperative." answered Gruber.
Marshall and Noir exchanged an alarmed look.
"Doctor." started Noir in a dangerous low voice, but the medicine-man interrupted him.
"Now don´t get upset. The drug is suited to the prisoners body-functions and the needs of an interrogation done by telepaths. You can trust me, i know what i do." stated Gruber confident.
"Of course you do." answered John Marshall. "You have to forgive us, but i forgot, that you participated with the incorporation of the Mooffs into the SolarCounterIntelligence."
Hearing this Andre Noir also relaxed. "My apologies, Doctor. I didn´t knew you were part of that project."
Gruber nodded. "No offense taken. Not even you mutants can know everything." He twickled at the two men. "Actually it makes you more human."
"Oh, thank you." grumbled Noir in mocked anger. "Now my entire world crumbles."
All three men had to laugh at that.

RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
Well, here we go with Wedges "Interrogation". Hope the wait wasn´t to long, but you know what i´m busy with elsewhere.
The Colliding of Empires
Wedge Antilles had barely finished eating the strange looking, but well tasting stew his "hosts" had given him. Hesitating at first, he had finally also managed to drink from the water. It had tasted in no way different, so he wasn´t able to tell, if the liquid had been drugged or not. Same went for the food of which he didn´t even know, how it should taste and how not. But that wasn´t the point. The point was, that if he wanted to escape he would need all his strenght and he would only weaken himself, if he refused to eat, what was given to him.
So when the door opened the pilot from Corellia just put the spoon into the now empty bowl and watched the two men enter. One of them was tall, with blue eyes and black hair, the other one of medium height with a good-natured face and some fat around his waist. They both wore the blue bodysuits, that seemed to be typical for crew-members of this ship and nobody of them looked very intimidating. They also seemed to lack the blase and arrogant attitude of most imperial officers Wedge Antilles had met.
"Hello," greeted the taller of the two men with something, that seemed to be a shy smile.
Wedge shifted uneasy in his pillows. "Hello." he answered slowly.
John Marshall took place in a chair opposite from the bed, while Andre Noir leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest.
"My name is John Marshall and my friend over there is Andre Noir." introduced the leader of the mutant-corps himself.
"Pleased to meet you." stated Wedge dry.
"Thank you." answered the telepath, who seemed to be slightly out of concept. He gave his partner an insecure look before turning back to the rebel-pilot. "Uhmmm, you know, it would be nice to know your name."
On the inside Wedge Antilles was as confused as the other man appeared to be. What kind of joke was this? He had expected everything, threats, insults, physical abuse, but not this. Whatever the qualities of the man were, who called himself John Marshall, he wasn´t a good interrogator. Maybe his situation wasn´t as bad as he had thought. The idea that his thoughts were an open book to the telepath never crossed his mind. How should it. Wedge Antilles knew nothing about the SolarEmpire or its mutant-corps. He also had never experienced interrogation by the empire or somebody else, so he knew only the horror-stories about torture-sessions told by those rebels, who had escaped imperial imprisonment and the alliances own propaganda. The very idea, that there were other, more subtle methods of interrogation was beyond his realm of knowledge.
To do Wedge Antilles and the Rebel-Alliance justice, such methods were beyond the realm of knowledge of the majority of imperial interrogators, too. After all Palpatines empire was still a pretty young organisation and its roots had been in a several thousand years old liberal and democratic government, no matter how rotten and decayed it had been in the end.
The founding situation of the SolarEmpire had been totally different. When Perry Rhodan had been sent to the moon in the year 1971 to be the first human who touched the surface of earths only satellite, the most barbaric slaughter in terran mankinds history wasn´t even thirty years old. The horrors of WorldWar II had been followed by a state of cold war over the next decades, first between NATO and WarsawPact, then between NATO, WarsawPact and the AsianConfederation lead by China, after the differences between Moscaw and Peking became to great to be easily overcome. Interestingly it had been the "Luftwaffe" of the Germans during WorldWar II, that had first shifted away from the interrogation by torture to less violent approachs based on experiences gathered by civil police-work and psychological studies. "So much knowledge and so much potential," mused John Marshall often, when studying this particular parts of history. "Fortunately, the Nazis weren´t smart enough to NOT fight the entire world." What he found to be one of the most disturbing aspects of this period of time was, that the most wanted persons after the war hadn´t been war-criminals or Nazi-VIPs, but scientists and intelligence-people. During the following years of cold war the arming up hadn´t been limited to military hardware, but also focused on fighting potential military software, in other words the human mind and spirit.
"And the short conclusion of a long history is, that a strong-willed and intelligent being can resist physical torture more effectively, than a relaxed atmosphere and a relationship with its interrogator."
Over the course of the last centuries John Marshall had done a thousand times, what he was going to do now. The drugs had already started to lower the tension inside the captured rebel. Marshalls acting as being insecure and Noir melting with the background would cause the man to feel less intimidated. The more he relaxed, the more his mental barriers were dropped and he would be more open to suggestions and the telepaths mind-reading abilities.
"Wedge. Wedge Antilles." answered the rebel the mutant-leaders question.
"Wedge Antilles." repeated John Marshall slowly. "Interesting name. Is there any special meaning to it?"
"Not that i know off." answered the captured pilot. For a moment he was tempted to look at the other man, Noir had been his name, who stood still at the wall of the room. For a moment their eyes met and Wedge quickly looked at Marshall again. Wedge Antilles didn´t know why, but suddenly he found the presence of the corpulent man rather disturbing, while he felt better looking at Marshall, who shifted now again in his seat.
"Well, the possibility was there." stated the terran from Australia with a smile. The smile made the man for Wedge Antilles even more sympathic, than he had been before, even more, than the uncertainity Marshall seemed to feel in his current situation. "You have to know," the tall terran continued, "you have to know, i have never done something like this before." Something like a pained expression appeared on his face and Wedge felt the sudden urge to help the man.
"Something like what?" wanted Wedge to know.
"Been in a situation of first-contact. My superiors are curious about you and would like to know more, but until your status isn´t clear ... ." John Marshall didn´t finish the sentence. It wasn´t necessary.
"I´m sorry, but i don´t think i can answer your questions." stated Wedge Antilles. He wasn´t going to betray the Alliance, and as much as John Marshall seemed to be a nice guy, Wedge wouldn´t turn traitor.
"Questions? What questions?" asked Andre Noir suddenly with a grave voice, bringing himself back to mind. "Until now we haven´t asked you anything." He showed the corellian pilot a cold smile, remembering the man that he was still a prisoner.
"And if you do and i don´t answer, what will you do to me? Will you try to get your answers by torturing me?"
"Of course not." stated John Marshall. There had been a few occasions, when the use of physical pain had become necessary, but the australian could count those occasions with the fingers of one hand. "We are no barbarians after all."
"Well, the imperials claim the same." grunted Wedge Antilles. "That doesn´t prevent them from conquering world after world, exploiting their inhabitans and murdering them, if they dare to resist."
John Marshall managed to keep his face calm, otherwise it would have shown his satisfaction. For once they already suspected, that something was wrong with their hosts from the Galactic Empire and the claims of the prisoner would add a new piece of information to the picture. The second reason was, that deep inside Wedge Antilles carried anger with him, a lot of anger. Something was bothering the corellian pilot and John Marshall knew from experience, that this anger wanted to get out sooner or later. Most people wanted to ease the burden they carried by SHARING it with somebody. All you had to do was listen to them.
"If that is the case, why don´t you tell us?"
Wedge Antilles shook his head. Something inside him wanted to tell the man he thought to be more and more sympathic. Besides, wasn´t he among friends? They had saved him, had taken care of his injuries and given him something to eat. The captured rebel never wondered, why he was thinking that way. How should he know, that the hypnotic powers of Andre Noirs mutated brain were slowly influencing his thoughts with the precision of a laser-scalpel. Despite that he hadn´t forgotten, where he belonged to. He was still a soldier of the rebel-alliance.
"I already told you, i won´t turn traitor and i won´t answer your questions."
John Marhsall lifted his hands in an open gesture. "I know, i know." He hesitated for a moment. He smiled again. "Wedge, i know you are an honourable man and i don´t expect you to give away your friends. And we won´t ask you any questions you wouldn´t answer anyway. Just tell us, what you think you can."
It was only necessary for the subject of the interrogation to start to talk on his own. About what wasn´t necessary. All that mattered was, that they broke through this barrier. As soon as the interrogated person started to speak he or she would sooner or later talk about everything Noir wanted to know and they would only stop, if the hypno-mutant suggested it.
Wedge Antilles considered John Marshalls last words. The offer didn´t seemed to be so bad. After all, fair was fair. And what harm could it do? He nodded his shoulders.
"Alright, why not."
And then he started to talk.

RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
I could as well have promised TOMORROW evening, considering how long it took to finish this one. I´m currently experiencing some problems with my PC (again) and that is a rather frustrating experience.
Anyway, here it is, the next part of:
The Colliding of Empires
"Captain." piped one of Iv´ris bridge-officers. "Enemy-forces have split up into three groups."
Turning around on his powerful legs the leading commander of the Ssi-ruuvis invasion-force inside the system of Bakura acknowledged the report from his subordinate with a dark stare.
"Their positions and headings." he whistled, extending his three nostril-tongues to their full lenght.
"Half of their ships, as well as what appear to be sixty fighter-sized vessels have formed up into a defense-position around the systems major planet. Six other ships are heading towards our position."
Iv´ris eyes became bigger, when he heard that. To split up forces, when already facing an enemy was something a Ssi-Ruuk-commander would have never done. Higher numbers increased the chances at winning and, more important, personal survival being that far away from the holy grounds of the Ssi-ruuvi-homeworld. A Ssi-Ruuk, who died inside alien territory, on alien ground was lost, doomed to perish completely? Were the enemies thinking of themself as nothing more than drones without a soul? If so, this would only ease the process to entech them, if they were suited for that. According to informations available to Iv´ris the inhabitans of this system were human and humans were far better suited to be enteched than P´wécks. More than a decade ago, the Ssi-ruuk had discovered a colony founded by humans close to their own cluster, humans, who had tried to escape some kind of struggle they had called clone-war. The colony had been annihilated and the survivers enslaved. But that was the past.
"Launch battle-droids immediately." he shouted.
-----
"Alright." muttered Pter Thanas on the bridge of the "Dominant". "Lets see, what they have to offer."
Without hyperdrive his small forces would need close to an hour to reach the unknown invaders in the outer system and the human commander wasn´t intend to give them that much time.
"Have you plotted a microjump?" he asked the "Dominant"s navigator.
"The final calculations have just been made." answered the young officer.
"In that case lets not waste more time." stated Thanas. "Jump."
-----
The two Carracks and four gunships dropped out of the strange parallel-dimension, that formed the realm of hyperspace to find themself only several dozen kilometers away from the ovoid shapes of the alien ships of the invaders. Not bad for a jump-in-system.
The ships of the Ssi-ruuk hurried to move into a defensive bulk, while the imperials accelerated to reach their position. With the light Wurrif-Class-Cruisers and the Sh´ner-Class-Assaultships forming the centre and the Fw´sen-Class-Picketships serving as escorts they were awaiting Bakuras defenders, while launching their battledroids.
-----
Although an older design the Carrack-Cruisers belonged still to the fasted ships inside the imperial Navy and were very well armed for their size. The same could be said about the corellian gunships, which were buildt for quick strikes at an enemy. So it was no wonder, that the defening forces of Bakura reached the Ssi-ruuk in less than a minute.
On their tactical screens and displays the imperials watched entire clouds of small, pyramid-like objects emerge from the aliens big ships.
The huge number of them caused Thanas eyes to turn into slits. That was something he hadn´t expected. The majority of known species used fighters and employed ships that carried them into battle, but rarely in the numbers displayed now. And there was something about them, that ... .
"Lets concentrate on one of their smaller ships first." the Commander ordered. "Sensors, what can you tell me about those starfighters?"
"They are two meters long, pyramid-shaped and armed with four laser-cannons." The "Dominants" sensor-officer hesitated for a moment. "And they are shielded?"
"Shielded?" asked Thanas in disbelief. "Those objects are to small to even have a human-sized pilot and you tell me, that they are shielded?"
Pter Thanas wasn´t waiting for a confirmation. Instead he watched how his ships started to open fire on the formation of the enemies ships, trying to seperate one of the smaller vessels from the main bulk and to turn it into pieces with their turbolasers. At the same time he tried to find a reasonable explenation for the small starfigthers used by the enemy.
-----
The nostril-tongues of Iv´ris twitched nervously. The speed and acceleration of the hostile ships had come as a bad surprise. Not even the fast Fw´Sen-class picket ships
that formed the escorts of the bigger Ssi-Ruuk-cruisers were that fast. And the ruthlessness or determination or both of the enemies commander wasn´t a good thing either. No sane Ssi-Ruuk would have dared to attack a force like the one Iv´ris commanded with only six ships so small.
But while the mind of the hostile commander was an enigma to Iv´ris, his intentions were not. At first it had looked, as if the defenders of this system were making a run for the big Ssi-Ruuk-ships at the centre of their formation. However, as soon as they had penetrated the screen of the sauropods escorting vessels, they had turned and taken one of the picket ships under fire.
Obviously the leading officer of the hostile forces wasn´t as crazy as Iv´ris had first thought. He wanted to know, what the Ssi-Ruuk were capable of without enganging their big ships. And for that he tried to seperate one of the smaller escort-ships from their main group.
"Order our ships to regroup." Iv´ris whistled. "Turn our formation by ten degrees. Fw´Sens shall support the "Fw´rrrhish" from vectors 391 and 826. Battledroids from vector 536."
----
Until now the imperials were attacking at the flank of the fleet of the Ssi-Ruuk. But now the ships of the invaders were changing their formation. Their escorting ships left their bigger siblings behind and formed into two pincers, that would close on the defenders from the sides, while the cruisers turned in a way, that would bring them in a position, where they would face the imperials from the front. To complete this manouver of encircling the remaining vectors had to be covered by their battle-droids.
But for the picket-ship "Fw´rrrhish" this attempt came to late. Its shields crumbling under the onslaught of a ship seven times longer than itself, the fire of turbolasers and ioncannons tore into the now unprotected hull, turning the "Fw´rrrhish" into a burning wreckage.
----
Pter Thanas had seen enough. The "Malice" and the gunships he had assigned to her had needed less than a minute to take care of the unfortunate ovoid-shaped ship. Based on that he was able to extrapolate the abilities of the intruders other ships.
For once they were slower, than their imperial counterparts. Worse for them, they couldn´t accelerate their ships as much as the imperials, what was a major disadvantage, when manouvering in combat. By imperial standards their ships were vastly underpowered and the consequence of this would be fewer weapons with lower yield and shields, that weren´t worth a centi-credit.
If they weren´t outnumbered five to one and if not for those small droids, Thanas wouldn´t have worried. The use of battledroids or, to be more precise, drones as starfighters had a lot of advantages, if compared to living pilots. If the technology was up to the task, drones were faster, had better acceleration and could execute turns and manouvers, that would kill a living pilot. There was no need for a live-support-system or space devoted to a living pilot, so a drone could be buildt to be much smaller and show the same performance. A smaller object was more difficult to hit and that increased its chances of survival. Drones were also cheaper to construct than a starfighter and no money was spent for the training of a pilot, which was in most cases lost, if the fighter was destroyed. Not to mention the weeks or months needed to train a pilot, while the programming of a drone was done in less than an hour, less than a minute, if the program was simply downloaded and no time at all, if the drones were controlled by a single computer. They knew no fear of being destroyed, they needed no pilots, who requested space, gyms, simulators, food, resting time, medical attention and so on aboard their carriers and they could coordinate their flying with more precision, than living pilots. The downside of course was the need for highly sophisticated software and an equally developed hardware. If the drones were controlled by a single computer, the destruction of such a central installation would cause them to stop working. If they had to fly on their own, they needed individual and even better programming. According to this the majority of starfighters in a space-faring society, especially in a space-faring society as advanced as the GalacticEmpire, should consist of drones, but that wasn´t the case. For all the advantages drones brought with them, they lacked the instincts of living beings and the ability to adept to new situations. They couldn´t keep up with the initiative and determination human beings showed and were therefor limited.
A grim smile appeared on Pter Thanas face. In theory the droids and drones of the empire could develop those instincts and experiences over time, but this was prevented by memory-whipes on a regular basis. Thanas remembered a discussion about this topic during his days at the academy. Their instructor had ordered them to imagine a group of prissy protocol-droids trying to form and fight as a military unit and the result had been ridicilous.
But the alien invaders obviously thought different about this matter and the damage their battledroids caused to the shields of the imperial warships seemed to prove them right.
„Move the „Dominant“ between the gunships and their fighter-droids.“ ordered Thanas. „Hail the commander of the „Malice“ and tell him to cover his gunships as well. Set the turbolasers on wide flak-bursts and allow the droids to come as close as possible. The gunships shall concentrate on those escort-vessels and after we are finished with them, we can take care of their big brothers.“
Pter Thanas leaned back in his commandchair. The alien invaders had confronted him with an interesting challange. The fact, that they used only droids as fighters and the fact, that they had tried to stay away from his small fleet with their bigger ships despite superior numbers had told him a lot.
Whoever they were, they were not only aggressive, but also very concerned for their lives. Two characteristics, which didn´t suited each other well, especially in combat. And Thanas intended to use this strange behaivior to his advantage.
But first things first. In the long run the goal of the imperials could only be to ensure the safety of Bakura and its imperial subjects. For now they had to slow down the advances of the aliens long enough for reinforcements to arrive. Their droids and their picket-ships were the only vessels, that could keep up with the speed of the imperials. Although underpowered, in combination with their huge numbers, they were the real danger to the defending forces, not the bigger, but also slow and underpowered cruisers. So Thanas and his forces had to take them out of the battle first. The problem with that was, that neither the Carracks nor the Correllian Gunships were very well suited to the task of fighting off fighter-sized vessels, the gunships even less, than the 350 meter long cruisers. Armed with eight turbolasers and four launchers for anti-ship missiles the gunships carried only six light quadlasers to fight fighters. They were designed to attack capital ships bigger than themself and to use their speed and shielding to evade damage caused by small starfighters.
„What we really need are one or two Lancer-Frigates to deal with those pesky droids.“ thought Thanas darkly.

RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
This has been a sad week for me and my family. After nine years of joy and fun and four weeks of suffering our dog "Lady" went the way of all beings mortal. We will miss her.
Because of this the following post is only half of what i intended to write, but this way the "technobabble" gets an extra (the next) post. Thanks to the AotC:ICS i have to correct some technical statements. For example imperial firepower will increase, while acceleration will decrease. However, if i should keep the already stated values for the sake of continuity, let me know.
The Colliding of Empires
Hyperwave Signal Interceptors (HSIs): These sensors detect fluctuations in hyperspace. Whenever a ship enters or exits hyperspace, the local hyperspace field is disturbed - the mass and speed of the vessel determining the size of the disturbance. Ships nearby carrying HSIs can detect the disturbance, HSIs cannot determine a ship's origin or destination - but they can record the entry to or exit from hyperspace. (StarWarsSourcebook – Chapter One)
Atlan tells:
I entered the „Inferno“s command-centre through the main antigrav-lift and walked over to the conference-table, where the other leading members of our expedition already were gathered. Perry was sitting at the head of the oval table, to his right Icho Tolot had taken place. Next came Gucky and, as always, i was tempted to shake my head in wonderment at the contrasts between those two so different beings, although i had known both of them for centuries.
If there was a word an ignorant observer would use to describe Tolot it would be monstrous, three and a half meter tall, two and a half meter broad shoulders, four arms, the head shaped like a half-sphere with three twenty centimeter wide red-glowing eyes and a double-line of white bones as teeth, that were in stark contrast to his black hard-looking skin. Under conditions of one gravo the weight of the Halutan was two tons and if the living fighting-machine was running with its top speed of hundred and twenty kilometers per hour you wanted to be everywhere else, but in its path.
When i had first seen him i had wanted to kill him. Tenthousand years ago i had hated his ancestors. Then he had stood before me. He had simply laughed with the deep voice of his and told me, that hate is a feeling unworthy of a sentinent being, born out of fear of being inferior or helpless. I had felt ashamed then for i should have known this myself, if you don´t aquire some wisedom over a lifespan of tenthousand years you should question your intelligence very seriously. Perhaps i had even understood it on an intellectual level, but the occasions i had felt inferior or helpless could be counted with the fingers of a half hand. Arkonides born at the height of the ArkonEmpire and especially those of the ruling family had never felt inferior, quite the opposite. But that was the past, long gone. I had nothing in common with the degenerated Arkonides of today and fortunately i had found a new home and new tasks with the terrans. Those were the kind of people i could relate to, no matter how different they appeared to be on the outside.
The first word coming to mind to describe Gucky wasn´t monstrous. The first word coming to mind to describe Gucky was cute. Only one meter tall, barely fifty kilograms of weight, a mouse-like head with big round ears and a pointed snout, a beaver-like tail, that emerged from a hole at the back of his suit, all of this covered in soft reddish-brown fur, the Ilt looked like a stuffed toy. But that image was deceiving. As harmless and cute Gucky appeared to be and as nice and friendly the mousebeaver was around his friends and people he liked, the mutant could be as dangerous as Icho Tolot, perhaps even more, if he wanted to . Gucky wasn´t a telepath, telekinet and teleporter for nothing.
Next to the mousebeaver Dr. Gruber from „Dantes Inferno“s med-bay had taken place and, nearly opposite from Rhodan and me sat Arno Kalup.
I took place in my chair to the left of the Grandadministrator. John Marshall was still participating in the interrogation of the rebel-pilot we had captured and so Iwan-Iwanowitch Goratschin had taken his place. Fellmer Loyd, who acted as second-in-command of the mutant-corps had stayed back on Earth, directing the activities of the mutants, who weren´t part of our mission in this galaxy. Only when seated did i realize that, with exception of Tolot, all the giants of the mission were sitting at my side of the table. With a height of two and a half meter the double-headed mutant was nearly as tall as Takor Kasom from Ertrus.
The last member of our illustrous circle was Commodore Ther Khein, acting captain of our ship.
„Ah, the booty-terran honors us with his presence.“ chirped Gucky.
„Watch your mouth, mousetail.“ i admonished him goodnatured. „Usually its you, we have to wait for.“
„Is it my fault, that writing my memoirs is more interesting, than most of these conferences?“ claimed the Ilt with a humorous gleam in his eyes.
„Writing your memoirs, tsktsktsk, is that what plundering the hydroponic gardens for vegetables is called today?“ i shot back.
„I always thought it means „i persuaded somebody to gently rub my back“.“ added Rhodan amused. Then his tone changed. „I would appreciate it, if we could begin.“
„Finally.“ grumbled Ther Khein. The one meter and sixty centimeter tall and equally broad officer from Epsal was a man, who took his profession very serious, one of the many things, that made him such a good commander.
„Yes.“ agreed Arno Kalup. „Let us begin.“
I threw a curious glance at the scientist, while the man was a genius in technical and physical matters his social skills were less developed. His unusual silence made me suspicious.
„Fine.“ stated Perry. „John and Andre are still with the prisoner, so for now we can only discuss the biological and technical matters concerning our new friends. While the positive events of the last days give reason to hope, we can´t ignore that there is also some kind of civil conflict. We are still in need of information about the nature of this conflict and the ways it is conducted.“
„Rhodanos is right. There are always two sides in a conflict and sometimes both are equally to blame.“ Icho Tolot chuckled. It sounded like low thunder. „Sometimes they are not.“
„Of how much interest can this be?“ wanted Gruber to know. „If we decide to ally with the GalacticEmpire, what impact can that have? We have only one ship, an incredible powerful ship, but still a single ship. And if we find out, that we don´t like both sides, nobody prevents us from leaving this galaxy behind.“
„Unfortunately things aren´t that easy, Doctor.“ i started to explain. What Gruber had said, didn´t came as a surprise to me. What the medicine-man had said made sense as long as one wasn´t looking behind the surface. Gruber was an ace in his profession, but that profession was biology and medicine, not policy and strategy. „For once we already have sided, when we intervened in the battle of ORD Friggas.“
„Did we?“ asked Iwanowitsch Goratschin, the „younger“ part of the double-headed mutant. „For all we know we prevented a group of terrorists from riding an installation of a legal government and slaughtering the helpless inhabitans of a colony-world.“
„Look, whose talking.“ shot Iwan back.
For Iwan to disagree with his twin was as certain as the amen in a church. I had given up a long time ago to find a proper way to explain, what kind of being Iwan-Iwanowitsch Goratschin was. He wasn´t an individual in the classical sense, since he had two heads with two brains, but only one body. For the same reason he couldn´t be described as siamesic twins. Even his name was a misnomer. The right head was called Iwan, the left Iwanowitsch, what meant nothing more than „son of Iwan“. They were two beings, who shared one body and who were constantly arguing. As if the two heads on his broad shoulders weren´t enough, his skin had a greenish touch. Today in the 27th century, that wasn´t a problem, thanks to different conditions on various terran colonies, the spectrum of skin-colours meanwhile included orange, green, even blue, but back in the second half of the 20th century Goratschin had been viewed as a freakish anomaly. And that was only his outside appearence. But it was another ability, which made Iwan Iwanowitsch Goratschin one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous mutant alive. The double-headed mutant was able to initiate a nuclear explosion with every matter, that contained atoms of carbonium or calcium and since those atoms were contained in nearly everything ... .
Goratschin would never forget, that Perry had been the first, who had ever treated him like a normal human being, an equal and because of this the mutant from Russia was loyal to my friend till death and above, if possible. Even to me it was sometimes scaring, what fierce loyality Perry could inspire in his men and soldiers. We had talked once or twice about it in private and the little barbarian had admitted, that sometimes he himself was frightened by the faith of those, who served under him.
All those thoughts crossed my mind in a matter of milli-seconds, then i had to concentrate again, because Iwan continued.
„It won´t matter for those „terrorists“, what we believed them or their intentions to be. All that will matter is, that we destroyed several of their ships and killed thousands of their soldiers and, by this, aided their enemies.“
„Goratschin is right.“ added Ther Khein. „If we want it or not, we might have already made ourself a new enemy.“
„But how dangerous can they be?“ wanted Gruber to know. „They have to hide from the official government of this galaxy. And even if not, what can they do against the flagship of our fleet?“
Kasom blinked in amusement in my direction, while Ther Khein rolled his eyes in contempt. Amateur, he would probably think.
„Many of our younger officers and crew-members would think similiar to you, Doctor.“ stated Perry calm. Obviously we both had thought the same. „Despite our best efforts to teach them otherwise, many of them have the naive belief, that our fleet is invincible. Even if they know better, they feel this way.“
„Well, if we ignore the war with the Uleb, this belief is justified. We haven´t been defeated for the last sixhundred years.“ added Kasom with a grin.
„But more than once it was very close. To close for my taste. The fact, that we haven´t been challenged for the last two-hundred years is because we have kept satisfied with our own galaxy and nobody from outside took an interest in our corner of the universe. The fact, that those rebels have to hide means nothing. The SolarEmpire had to do the same for the first hundred years of its existance and look, where we are today. Those rebels were well-equipted enough to have a fleet like the one we destroyed at ORD Friggas and i somehow doubt, that this was their entire fleet. I agree, that an open attack would be of secondary concern, but this isn´t the only way to take care of an enemy. As for the empire, we already have a few hints, that they are not as nice, as we would like them to be. Even if not, in their situation i would be very interested, where an extragalactic visitor comes from and what his technology is capable of. Even more so, if this technology seems to be superior to my own. This is, what we have to be careful about.“
For a man like Perry this had been a long speech, not necessarily unusual, but also out of the norm. Because my thoughts on the matter were nearly identical to those of my friend, i hadn´t listened to carefully.
Since my seat was opposite to Arno Kalups place i had been able to watch the face of the scientist without the need of suspicious movements of my head. Straightforward, blunt and harsh at the edge of being impolite it wasn´t easy to deal with Kalup under the best of circumstances. Fortunately he was a scientist and not an ambassador, although his views and instincts were sometimes better, than those of these trained diplomats. Like many politicians diplomats often thought, that they could bargain about everythin and couldn´t believe, that this wasn´t always the case. It was a way of thinking, that could cause lots of trouble and fortunately the upper echelons of the administration of the SolarEmpire had been cured from this disease or so i liked to believe.
As already said Kalup was unusual quiet. His face had shown no expression until Perry had talked about superior technologies and then it had turned grim, what made me wonder, what he had discovered. And if this discovery would be reason for concern on my and Perry´s side. Eager to get an answer to that question, i added my two cents to the discussion.
„Gentlemen, we already had this discussion without lasting results. I suggest, we concentrate on the facts we have so far. Doctor Gruber, Professor Kalup, would you please tell us, what you have discovered so far?“
