Spent the last weeks free time with reading the first book of Timothy Zahn´s "Conqueror´s Trilogy" (excellent) and Number 81 one of the PerryRhodan-Hardcovers "Aphilie". The year is 3580 and the humans on terra are losing their ability to love and to care for each other. Rhodan and a few of his companions are banished from earth and ... .
Well, i´m sure you are more interested in an update to this story. For stated reasons (see above) it is only a short update, but one for all Han/C3PO-fans.
Enjoy!
The Colliding of Empires
Han Solo was in a hurry. He wasn´t running through the corridors of the „Home One“, but other people would have found it difficult to keep up with the smugglers long strides. Han wanted to talk to Leia, before they departed to Nal Hutta and their meeting with Durga the Hutt. The „Falcon“ was his ship and Leia might feel more comfortable, if they talked on „her“ territory even if said territory occupied just a small cabin aboard the „Home One“.
Han reached the deck, where the quaters of the rebellions dignitaries and VIPs were located. Turning around a corner he spotted a familiar face.
„Captain Solo ... .“ started C-3PO, but was immediately interrupted by the smuggler.
„Not now, Goldenrod.“
„But Sir ... .“
„Not now, i´m here to talk with Leia.“
„Of course, Sir, but ... .“
„No buts.“
Han stopped in front of the door to Leia´s cabin, 3PO close behind him.
„Leia, its me. Please let me in.“
„Sir ... .“
„3PO! - Han to Leia. Open the door.“
„Captain Solo ...“
„If you don´t want me to blast this prissy Protocol-droid of yours to pieces you better open the door. LEIA.“
Han Solo´s frustration was evident, when he kicked the door.
„She doesn´t seem to be here.“ he muttered.
„If you allow me, Captain Solo. Princess Leia is in the main briefing-room of the „Home One“.“ Stated C-3PO trying to be helpful as always. „She ordered me to tell you to meet her there.“
Han glared at the golden droid, suddenly realizing, what 3PO had wanted to tell him the entire time. If he would have listened to him, he could have safed himself a lot of time. Not that he would ever admit that.
„Well, you could have told me sooner.“ he accused.
„But Sir, you never allowed me ... .“ 3PO stopped again, since he was talking to Captain Solo´s back, which was moving away from him and towards the command-section of the „Home One“.
Shaking his head the protocol-droid started to move in the same direction.
„Humans.“ he muttered. „I´ll never understand them.“

I really wonder, if somebody tried the link i posted?
Come on guys, give it a try and tell me what you think.
Besides that, here is an update.
Enjoy!!!
The Colliding of Empires
The nostril-tongues of Captain Iv´ris twitched nervously. The ships of his task-force had carried a total number of three-thousand-three-hundred swarm-class-battledroids and it looked like the Ssi-Ruu would need everyone of them. The shields of the defending vessels were to strong to be easily overtaken. If not for their huge numbers, the droids of the Ssi-Ruu would have been without an effect in this battle.
What had been a total surprise had been the aggressive approach of the defenders. They had attacked without hesitation and tried to break through the screening ships of the flotilla, aiming for the cruisers and battleships.
The enemy had seperated his forces and was attacking with two groups. If the battle would have been decided by the size or number of ships, the defenders wouldn´t stand a chance. But soon Iv´ris had been forced to realize, that the energy-system that supported the ships of their enemy were much more powerful, than those of the Ssi-Ruu.
What meant better shields and more powerful weapons.
In terms of acceleration, manouverability and speed the alien defenders were also superior. Fortunately there were only six ships of them and they lacked fighters.
But that hadn´t prevented the destruction of already three of the Fw´Sen-Frigates and damage to one of the fourhundred meter long Wurrif-Class-light-Cruisers.
For the Ssi-Ruu the battle wasn´t going well.
„Dispatch four of the picket-ships when their second group makes its next attack-run. They shall try to seperate one of his smaller vessels.“ ordered Iv´ris. „We´ll open our formation for and close the gap behind him.“
The senior Captain knew he was risking alot by allowing the enemy to pass their escort-screen, but if he didn´t change tactics his ships would be slowely ripped apart piece for piece.
----
Pter Thanas glared at his tactical display.
Until now the battle had went well. The imperials had managed to cause damage to one of the bigger ships of the invaders and already destroyed three of their smaller escort-vessels. Compared to imperial ships, the ovoid vessels were seriously underpowered. The small escorts were only slightly more powerful than a blastboat and the ships of medium size barely equaled his Carrack-Cruiser.
For a group of three Victories or a single Imperator the now twenty-seven ships of the invaders would have been no challenge, but exactly that was Pter Thanas problem. He didn´t have three Victories or an ImpStar available and it would take more than a half hour for the „Blackmoon“ and its squadron to arrive.
Until now his tactic of splitting his forces into two groups was working, the first group made its run, caused disarray among the enemy ships and put their shields under strain and the second followed and tried to complete the kill. If the battle prolonged this way the invaders would loose due to attrition. Something the enemy commander would realize sooner or later, too.
The important question was when and how he would change his tactic.
„We are ready for our next attack-run.“ stated Lieutenant-Commander Hovesk, the first officer of the „Dominant“.
„Then lets go in.“
----
The Carrack-Cruiser and its two escorts of Corellian-Gunships accelerated towards the formation of the invaders capital ships. Like with the attack-runs before they had to pass the pyramid-shaped battledroids first. The battle-droids were clustered in swarms of two or three dozens and they were the only units of the enemy, that could keep up with the acceleration of the imperial ships.
The „Dominant“ passed the positions of the battledroids with its shields weakened by twenty percent, closely followed by its escorts. Behind the wall of battledroids was the second line of the enemies ships, his fifty meter long gun-ships, protecting the big cruisers. From the original eighteen of those ships only fifteen were left and now, with the distances closing, the imperials opened fire with all weapons.
The Ssi-Ruu fired back, but unlike before the Fw`Sen-class-ships didn´t keep their positions of shielding the bigger ones. Instead they tried to evade the fire from the imperial laser-cannons and, since the imperials hadn´t expected such a manouver succeeded.
----
„Concentrate fire on one of the big cruisers. The gunships shall use their missiles.“ ordered Pter Thanas.
A Corellian Gunship was armed with eight double-barreled Turbolasers and eight launchers for concussion-missiles against capital ships. As defense against starfighters they carried six quadlaser-cannons as point-defenses.
Both gunships, the Bakur1 and the Bakur2 fired their missiles against one of the ninehundred meter long cruisers of the invaders, while the „Dominant“ supported them with fire from its turbolasers.
Then the imperials were through and Thanas watched on his display how the enemy was reacting. For a moment he couldn´t put a finger on it, but he felt that something had changed.
„Commander, the group of the „Malice“ is ready to go in and take advantage of the situation.“ reported Hovesk.
That should be a good thing. The enemy-cruiser they had attacked had nearly lost its shields and they were recharging only slow. The ovoid ship wouldn´t survive a second attack. Then Thanas saw the different positions of the invaders gunships. Realizing what the enemy was planning he turned to his com-officer.
„No, call them back.“
----
The „Malice“ and her two escorts raced into the disarrayed formation of the Ssi-Ruu, guns blazing. They were aiming for the Shree-Class BattleCruiser that had suffered shield-loss during the attack-run of the „Dominant“. It seemed the battledroids and the gunships were allowing them to pass through, while the ovoid ship was falling back behind its two sister-ships, that obviously tried to give it cover.
The imperial ships were running into a wall of fire of turbolaser-cannons, ion-cannons and concussion-missiles fired by the Ssi-Ruu and they had to change their course. That was the thing the gunships had been waiting for. Four of them accelerated forward, penetrated the line of the three imperial ships and forced the „Bakur3“ away from the imperial formation.
The „Malice“ and her remaining escort tried to turn back and save their comrade, but the other ships of the Ssi-Ruu positioned themself between them and the „Bakur3“, which was now under fire from four Ssi-Ruu-gunships that formed a half-sphere on one side, while hundreds of battledroids attacked it from the other side like a swarm of angry bees.
The „Bakur3“ fought back bravely. Dozens of Ssi-Ruu-battledroids ceased to exist in the Corellian Gunships volleys of turbolasers and its concussion-missiles destroyed one of the four Fw´Sen-class-gunships, but it was to late to escape.
Overpowered the shields of the „Bakur3“ ceased to exist and milliseconds later blasts of energy tore into its now unshielded hull. Before the crew of the Corellian Gunship could make an attempt to save their lives with the escape-pods the storages of fuel and ammunition were hit and in a huge explosion their ship was destroyed.
The Ssi-Ruu had achived their first kill.
----
Pter Thanas witnessed the destruction of the „Bakur3“ with gritted teeth. From one moment to the other he had lost one sixth of his forces. Four times they had been lucky, but now the commander of the enemies forces had stroken back. For a short moment the imperials had allowed themself to believe, that they could tear their adversaries to dust without losses of their own. That hope had now been crushed by the realities of war. They could instill heavy losses on the invaders, but in the end they would loose.
Pter Thanas knew, that it would be irresponsible to keep his initial tactic of two attack-groups and to sent the „Malice“ against the enemy-fleet with only one escort.
„Hail the „Malice“.“ he told his com-officer. „Tell them they shall join us. We´ll put the Carracks in the centre, the gunships „Bakur1“ and „Bakur2“ at the right and left front and the „Bakur4“ at the rear. We´ll go in as one group.“ The Commander watched his small fleet regrouping and prayed, that the „Blackhawk“ would arrive in time.
---
Pter Thanas counterpart watched the destruction of the hundred-twenty meter long gunship with satisfaction. The Ssi-Ruu had paid a high price for the destruction of the small vessel, but the enemy had suffered more, than Iv´ris forces.
Turning to his officers the senior captain ordered: „Sent one of the Fw´Sen-picket-ships back to the main fleet. They shall tell Admiral Ivpikkis that we have met heavy resistance and that we won´t have enough ships to take control over this system, if we have to fight the defending ships alone.“ He looked at his displays again. „Cluster-formation for the rest of our ships. That way we´ll support each others shields. And tell our escorts to constantly rotate our vessels to present fresh shields.“
His subordinates hurried to execcute his orders.

Real life (again), a "heated" discussion somewhere else and something called "writer´s apathy" due to the high temperatures are preventing me from updating this story.
Sorry.
I hope to have an update within the next days.

Thirty degrees Celsius (felt) and more.
I know, i KNOW, its not my best update and much to short to make up for the long wait, but hey, i don´t earn my living by writing, so i´m under no pressure and can wait till the muses are kissing me.
Despite that, i hope you´ll enjoy the next update of
The Colliding of Empires
Han entered the small amphitheatre, that formed the main briefing room aboard the „HomeOne“, where already several leaders of the rebel-alliance were assembled. Not that he had eyes for the other main figures of the rebellion. His eyes were drawn to the petite shape of the princess from Alderaan.
Leia was sitting in a small group with Luke and Wes Janson, talking in a low voice to them. When she noticed Han approaching a frown crossed her face, which turned quickly into a small, almost shy smile. For Han this was reason to feel relief, since it showed, that Leia seemed to be willing to set their differences aside.
„Han, we´ve been waiting for you.“ she greeted him, when he took place next to her.
„Tried to met you at your cabin.“ he answered a little brisk.
If Han would have believed in gods, he would have thanked them, that his short answer hadn´t been more harsh. He really wanted to make things alright with Leia, but part of him hadn´t forgotten the way they had argued over going to Nal Hutta or how she had asked him to leave her cabin. He still didn´t knew, why she had been down to tears then, just that she hadn´t trusted him enough to allow him to console her.
It still hurt.
„Sorry.“ he added quickly. „That wasn´t meant the way it sounded. Just wanted to say, that we have to talk.“
She seemed to eye him from head to toe. „You´re right.“ she finally said. „But not now, i´m afraid.“
Crix Madine had obviously only waited long enough for Han to reach a seat, before he started the briefing.
„Now that we are all present,“ the General from Corellia threw a quick glance at Han, „let me explain the reason for this new change in shedule.“
Han supressed a sign. He had hoped, that the trip to Nal Hutta had been given up, but obviously only the timetable had been changed. Despite that, he still had to ask.
„Excuse me, General, does this mean we are not going to visit the hutts?“
„The mission to Nal Hutta still stands, General Solo.“ answered Borsk Fey´lya instead of Madine.
The way he said „General“ sounded like an insult, as if the bothan thought Han to be unworthy of the title. At the moment Han was eager to agree with him, he may have been tortured by Darth Vader and been frozen in carbonite for more than six months, but for now he could imagine nothing more humilitating than being thought „worthy“ as an officer in an army commanded by Borsk.
A hand was put on his shoulder in a calming gesture and when Han turned his head he looked at Luke, who showed him a small smile. The former smuggler had to read the silent message from his friends lips: „Don´t. He´s not worth the effort.“
It was obvious, that his friend had felt the tension and barely supressed anger inside Han. So instead of barking at Fey´lya, Han simply asked.
„If this isn´t about our negotiations with the hutts, why are we here?“
„I was going to explain the reason for this meeting, when you interrupted me with your question.“ stated Crix Madine.
Han had never exchanged more than a few words with the other corellian, but since Madine was something of a disciplinarian and Han had always trouble with authority-figures, there was no doubt, that the two men would never go along well.
„What i wanted to explain is, that while we haven´t given up the mission to meet with Durga the Hutt, events have transpired, that have to be considered in our future plans. We intercepted an imperial communique from an imperial held world called Bakura to the headquater of the local Moff asking for help against invaders of unknown origin.“
„Excuse me, did you say invaders of unknown origin?“ asked Luke Skywalker.
„Thats what i said.“
„Do we know, if they belong to the same species, that is responsible for our defeat at Ord Friggas?“ wanted Leia to know. „In my opinion it is just suspicious, that TWO powerful groups of aliens appear suddenly at nearly the same time.“
„What causes you to think they are powerful, Princess?“ asked Ackbar with his deep voice.
Leia had the feeling, as if the Mon Calamari still hadn´t gotten over the defeat at ORD Friggas. Oh yes, it had been a severe blow to the entire Rebel-Alliance, but Ackbar was the Admiral of the Fleet, the men and women who had been killed had been HIS men and women and he had probabely known most of them.
„Isn´t that obvious?“ stated Borsk Fey´lya instead of Leia, what caused Hans anger to rise again. If Leia was asked a question, it should be her to answer it. „If they are brave enough to challange the empire, they have to be very strong.“
„Or they have no idea of the empires true abilities.“ shot Ackbar back.
Activating a holo-projector Crix Madine caused the disagreement between Ackbar and Fey´lya to cease, if only for a moment, where the image of the Ssi-ruu-fleet at Bakura appeared.
„They don´t seem to belong to our new friends from ORD Friggas.“ muttered Han after a few moments.
Many inside the briefing-room nodded their heads in agreement. Nobody would forget the records of the two-and-a-half-kilometer sphere with the green-glowing shield for a long time, that had destroyed the ships of the Rebel-Alliance in a matter of seconds for a long time.
Unlike the huge supership with a ring-like belt, the ships attacking Bakura were of ovoid shape and not a single one of them was as huge as the monstrosity at ORD Friggas, although three of them would probabely equal an ISD in volume.
It seemed Han wasn´t the only one impressed with what he saw.
„As you can see, they have ships of an impressive size, what suggests a matching industrial base.“ added Mon Mothma, who had been rather quite until now.
A frown crossed Luke Skywalkers forehead. He could hear Yoda inside his head. „Size matters not.“ the ancient Jedi-Master would have said. The DeathStar had been big, too, and more powerful, than half the imperial Starfleet, but dispite that the battlestation had fallen victim to a proton-torpedo fired by an X-Wing at the right time against the right spot. And Luke Skywalker didn´t need to be a genius to guess, why Mon Mothma and the rest of the leadership of the Alliance were interested in those strangers, who were attacking Bakura.
„Is there more attached, than those images?“ he asked. „If Bakura has the typical defences of a small colony and if those ships equal the capabilities of the imperials, those invaders are already sitting in the palace of the planets governor drinking tea.“
„You are right, Commander Skywalker.“ stated Ackbar. „Thats something we have to find out. And because of this, we are going to sent a team to Bakura.“
„Whom will you sent, if the mission to Nal Hutta isn´t canceled?“ asked Han.
„This won´t be a diplomatic mission.“ explained Crix Madine. „Our dear Admiral“, he made a respectful bow towards the Mon Calamari. „our dear Admiral convinced the politicians to sent a scout team before we try to sent a diplomatic contact.“
„A waste of time, if you ask me.“ interrupted Borsk Fey´lya.
„Gentlemen, please.“ tried Mon Mothma to soothe the tempers. „It is true, that time is running out for us, but we can´t afford to be less careful. Especially now. So we´ll sent General Madine to make first contact with those new invaders.“ She looked at Luke Skywalker. „Commander Skywalker, i´m aware, that you usually prefer to work together with General Solo and Princess Leia, but this time your abilities and experience are more needed elsewhere. We want you to accompany the General.“
Luke attempted to rise from his seat, but thought better of it. The chain of command inside the Rebel-Alliance was less formal, than the one inside the empire, but it was still there and he was bound to it. Besides that Mon Mothma was right. Nevertheless he suddenly had a bad feeling.
„Well, i would prefer to accompany my friends, but i will go, where i´m needed more.“ the last Jedi said slowly.
„Thank you.“ stated Mon Mothma, giving Luke Skywalker one of her rare smiles. „If this mission goes the way we hope, we will make ourself a new powerful ally. Perhaps we won´t even need the hutts, if this works out.“ This was aimed at Han and Leia. Luke Skywalker could only show her a weak smile of his own.
It was only a weak console, but for Mon Mothma it seemed to be enough.
„I like this as much as you, pal.“ muttered Han Solo. „Every time we get seperated, the podoo is hitting the exhaust.“
With that the briefing seemed to have come to an end, since most of the senior members of the Rebel-Alliance turned towards the exit, while Luke, Leia and their friends remained seated. Admiral Ackbar sorted through some data-padds, but made no move to leave the room.
Finally they were alone.
„Alright Admiral.“ was Han the first to break the silence. „What is this all about? I´m used to a lot from AllianceHighCommand, but this ... .“
„You have no idea, General.“ answered Ackbar with a heavy sigh.
„I have no idea, too.“ stated Leia with a stern voice. Something was going on inside the leadership of the rebellion and she didn´t know what.
„We didn´t wanted to divert your attention from the mission to Nal Hutta.“ explained Ackbar. From the sound of his voice it became obvious, that he wasn´t including himself in the „we“. His gaze turned to Han. „Believe it or not, but there are people in this alliance, that like the idea of allying with the hutts even less than you. Common people, not the ones among the council. Moral isn´t only critical, its catastrophic. If nothing happens, if nothing positive happens, this alliance will break apart.“
„That would be a set-back of over ten years. Back to the times, when dozens, if not hundreds of groups were fighting the empire on their own. The empire would gain an advantage we could never hope to catch up again.“ explained Leia.
She took a deep breath. The rebellion contained hundreds of species, with different cultural backgrounds, reasons to fight and to resent Palpatines empire and not for the first time she asked herself, if this fragile object could be kept together, if the commom enemy was gone. A situation, that wasn´t going to happen, if things continued to develop that way.
„You are right, your highness. And now you probabely understand, why our collegues from the high council are that nervous. But instead of calming down, they become over-active.“
„“Our“ collegues?“ asked Luke. „You don´t include yourself in that group, Admiral?“
„They are in the Rebel-Alliance for the common good, but also for personal gain, while i have no such ambitions.“ explained Ackbar with his usual calm.
Han didn´t have to hide a mocking grin, the Mon Calamari was perhaps the only person outside his inner circle of friends, he would believe such a statement. Ackbar and perhaps Madine, might he be a disciplinarian or not.
Sadly he realized, that he couldn´t count Mon Mothma into this group.
„Alright, so what do you want us to do?“ asked Leia.
„For now i can only advise you to move with utmost care. As for the future ... . Well, lets just say, that you are perhaps the only ones with enough personal integrity to keep the alliance together, if things come to the worst. Have i made myself clear?“
Han could only nod, while he and his friends watched the Mon Calamari turn around and leave the briefing-room of the „HomeOne“.
Next time we´ll see what happens on Coruscant.
