RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
Less than a week has passed since my last post. Hurray.
The Colliding of Empires
Coruscant.
The gem of the core-worlds.
There were worlds with a higher population than Coruscant. There were worlds culturally more developed than Coruscant. There were worlds more wealthy than Coruscant. But there was no world inside the empire, that combined all three aspects of population, wealth and culture the same way like the planet, that had been the capital of the Galactic Republic for twenty-five millenia and, for the last two decades, for the Galactic Empire.
Coruscant wasn´t located at the centre of the galaxy in the geometric sense, but because of its importance every standard-map used Coruscants position as point of origin in a system of three-dimensional coordinates. In other words Coruscants coordinations were zero-zero-zero. Besides that the natural conditions of the planet had provided the standard measurements and scientific standard units for the civilisation Coruscant was capital of.
But that was something few being ever acknowledged.
---
As usual Darth Vader was standing at the windows of transpari-steel, staring out into the surrealistic realm, that was the normal universe viewed from hyperspace. Moving million times faster than light, the stars were nothing more than elongated lines, forming a tunnel of grey-white light.
„Drop out of hyperspace in thirty seconds.“
The man who had once been Anakin Skywalker didn´t react. His thoughts were on the near future. Briefly he wondered, how the arrogant officers of the Coruscant-sector-defense would react to the sight of the „Dante´s Inferno“, not to mention the ordinary beings of the civilian population.
Well, the ordinary citicens would be safed from the sight of the sphere with a diameter of two-thousand-five-hundred meters, since it was questionable, if there was a star-port on the surface big enough for the huge ship and he somehow doubted, that the officials would allow a warship of foreign origin to pass the planetary shields, even if the alien visitors would be valuable allies in the future.
That the planetary shields were useless against the weapons of the Ultra-Battleship the officials of the empire couldn´t know.
Wondering, why he had considered the terrans as valuable allies, but not as enemies, while they were nothing of both at the moment he considered the situation he was in.
There were the rebels.
Only a few days ago he had been confident, that the empire would get its chance to get rid of them once and for all. It would have cost them a valuable sector-base, but if the rebels had succeded at ORD Friggas, they would have been able and, more important, encouraged enough to attack the second DeathStar in the system of Endor. There they would have been crushed between hammer and anvil.
It hadn´t been the most complicated plan of the man Darth Vader called master, its brillance had been in its simplicity, but without knowing the terrans had managed to foil that plan of the emperor. Fortunately he hadn´t been there, when Palpatine had recieved the news. The only thing more dangerous than Palpatine being in a foul mood, was being at the recieving end of Palpatines foul mood.
Unwillingly Vader had to admit, that there was still a part of him, that feared the emperor. And as much as he feared the old man, he also despised him. And since Darth Vader didn´t liked being afraid, he had soon started to hate the emperor.
Such power in the force, such a brillant mind and an ability of precognition unmatched, as well as ambition to equal or even surpass those characteristics. And yet, despite that grandness, Palpatine seemed to thrive on the corruption, the decadence and depravity, that was spreading out and slowly eating the empire up from the inside. Of course it was much easier to deal with beings with such weaknesses, but for Vader those beings were an insult and he could hardly await the moment, when he would be the one in charge, responsible to no one, able to purge those scum from the universe once and for all. A warrior at heart he preferred opponents, who were upright and had some spine. Men who wouldn´t bow to his slightest whim and who died with dignity if they failed him.
Men like Captain Needa or even Ozzel. And while the loss of Ozzel still didn´t bothered him a lot (the stupidity of the man had prevented a clean bombardement of the rebel-base at Hoth, what had made a ground-assault necessary, where a lot of men had lost their lives), Needas death Vader regretted sometimes.
After all the former captain of the „Avenger“ hadn´t tried to run away or didn´t came up with lame excuses. Instead he had taken the responsibility for his actions and died like a man. Acknowledging this when he had calmed down enough, Vader had made sure, that Needas children got the best education possible, secretly of course so nobody should know about his involvement. And since he thought himself to be free of a conscience, he viewed the costs for the two boys and one girl as investment into the future.
Had it been any other ship, than the „MilleniumFalcon“ Vader would have probabely spared Needas life. But to be so close to his son and then to have him slipping through his fingers ..., it had been to much then. Only weeks later, when the „Falcon“ had arrived at Besping had he learned, that Luke hadn´t been aboard.
His son.
Luke.
No longer a child, but a man, if he judged the reports about the death of Jabba the Hutts right.
It wouldn´t be easy to cause Luke to join him, but it was still possible. Luke wasn´t lost, neither to the weak lightside a Jedi had to beg to to get the power, that was rightfully his nor was his son lost to the corruption Palpatines darkside demanded.
This would be his advantage over Palpatine in their fight for Lukes soul. With his son at his side, he could dare to oppose Palpatine from the front. No longer patiently sheming, no longer slowly bringing pawn after pawn into position for the time, when he would try to take over the empire.
Angry Luke should be, full of wraith, but also proud and upright. And once they got rid of Palpatine a new chapter in the history of the Sith would be opened. No longer a history of masters and servants, but fathers and sons.
The beginning of a new legacy.
---
The drop-out of hyperspace made an end to Darth Vaders musings and looking out of the windows he could see the grey orb of the empires capital.
As always most parts of the planet-wide city were covered by skyhooks, industrial stations, drydocks and countless civilian vessels and further away from the planet huge Golan-III-defense-stations formed a protective sphere, the space between them intersected with smaller battle-stations against fighters and smaller warships. Countless freighters, transports and passenger-liners moved towards or away from the planet in carefully supervised and guarded lanes.
But what cought the eye of the Dark Lord was the most recent addition to Coruscants defense-fleet.
Already in the early years of his New Order Palpatine had declared Coruscant to be its own sector and by thus given the single planet its own sector-fleet.
Vader counted six ISDs on this side of the planet and he knew, that six more would be patrolling the other side. Four would be in drydock for maintainance or resupply and the remaining eight, together with scores of Victory-Stardestroyers and their squadrons would be looking out for trouble in the neighbouring systems close by. Including the lesser vessels between twohundred and threehundred capital ships were only waiting for an enemy to show up and get his nose bloodied.
That was the theory. In reality nobody in the upper ranks of the empire was expecting a serious attack, since the only regions the empire hadn´t under complete control were the outer rim, the unknown regions and wild space. And with the constant growth of the empires military forces – although more conservative minds inside the admirality were afraid, that the empire expanded to fast – this would change soon.
One sign of this growth was the youngest sibling of Darth Vader´s own flagship.
Although the capital planet was still several thousand kilometers away the Dark Lord of the Sith was able to see the eleven mile long commandship of the Executor-class with the naked eye. The „Whelm“ had been finished at the shipyards of Fondor only weeks ago and had been placed in command over Coruscants sector-fleet as soon as the ship had left the dock. For a short moment Darth Vader wondered if the youngest vessel of the Executor-class would also be the last, since KuatDriveYards was already working on a new, even more powerful type of commandship.
But that was the future. Until then every visitor to Coruscant, every trader and tourist, no matter if civilian or military, every dignitary and ambassador representing his or her world in front of the emperor would get a glimpse at one of the biggest and most powerful ships of the galaxy, silent witness to the empires vastness, power and glory. "Don´t dare to oppose us." was the hidden message and the message was understood.
His own sense of time told him, that the „Dante´s Inferno“ would leave hyperspace within the next moments. The ship of the terrans had been following the „Executor“ and her escorts to give the imperials time to prepare their collegues of Coruscants defense-fleet.
Carefully Darth Vader reached out with his senses. To see a two-thousand-five-hundred meter wide sphere of a battleship in reports was one thing. To see such a behemoth eye-to-eye or only on ones sensor-displays was a totally different thing. Especially since the shape of the ship resembled a DeathStar.
The sight of the „Dante´s Inferno“ would shake the self-confident and super-cilious men of Coruscant´s defense-fleet out of their complacency and that was someting Darth Vader didn´t want to miss.
Even a Sithlord like him enjoyed a little sadistic pleasure now and then.

Sorry, been busy with my own fics. Well, I assume the new battleships you were referring to that would replace the SSD's are the Eclipse-class SSDs. I'm still looking forward to Palps meetings with Perry and co.

You are right on the Eclipse. Compared to the Executors, they have the advantage of a axial superlaser and gravity-wave-generators.
And i´m also looking forward to the meeting between Perry and Palapatine, since i have no idea, how that will go.
We´ll have to see, how things develop.

RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
Sorry, that this took so long, but what can i say. Sometimes things fly and sometimes they crawl.
The Colliding of Empires
„Exit from linear-space in ten seconds. Nine, eight, seven ... .“
„One should do something about this countdown. It might make sense while on battlestations, but we are supposed to be among friends.“ grumbled Perry Rhodan towards Atlan.
„...five, four, ... .“
„You are the Grandadministrator.“ answered the tenthousand year old arkonid. „You just have to give the order.“
„... three, two, ... .“
„Besides, supposed to be among friends isn´t the same as being among friends. We´re entering the capital system of a galaxy-spanning empire and its leading people would be fools, if they hadn´t taken steps to ensure the safety of their most important system. I ... .“
Nothing but the changed sight on the panorama-screen indicated, that the „Dante´s Inferno“ had dropped out of linear-space, the incomprehensable realm between the normal universe and the higher dimensions of hyperspace.
„Ship has dropped out of linear-space.“ announced Ther Khein from his command-station with this thundering voice of his.
„We have seen it.“ shouted Perry Rhodan back. „Sensors, what can you tell us about the system?“
„DI left l-space one lm behind group Exe. Major planet three lm forward. Sampling more input. Discovered def-for unimpressive.“
„Lieutenant-Commander Taslo, we are not on El Auria. You don´t have to economize your words or anything else. Not on the flagship. I would appreciate more details in your report.“
Rhodan shook his head. Turning to Atlan he said. „I thought Taslo was the responsible officer of the night-shift. What is he doing in the sensor-station at this time?“
„He switched tables with Lt.-Commander Mykoya.“ answered Gucky, who had gotten the information from There Khein using his telepathic abilities. That got him an annoyed look from Rhodan.
„Did i ask you? Besides, it is very impolite to look into other people´s heads without their permission.“
„Oh yes?“ asked Gucky back. „I can´t wait till you ask me to use my abilities again. Will „listening“ be impolite then, too?“
„Yes, it will be impolite then, too, but also necessary. Otherwise i wouldn´t ask for it. I ... .“
„Requested report coming in. There are thousands of vessels, but most of those seem to be transports for passengers or cargo. We also discovered twelve of the empires destroyers, one battleship like the „Executor“ and two-hundred-fourty smaller vessels, whose engine-configuration and power-output indicate them to be warships. Thirty of those share the dagger-design of the destroyers and have a lenght of sixhundred meters, while the rest ... ,“ Taslo hesitated for a moment. „looks different.“
Rhodan and Atlan exchanged a look, digesting, what they had heard so far.
„Try to establish a catalog of them.“ ordered Perry Rhodan. Turning back to Atlan. „Do you have an explenation for this? I could understand, why a rebel-movement would use a lot of different types of ships, but a military organisation of the scale we are dealing with should stick to a single design it thinks to be optimal.“
„Perhaps they are still searching for the best design.“ suggested Atlan. „Don´t forget the young age of this empire. Or they get their ships from more than one producer.“
„You mean producers like private companies?“ asked Takor Kasom.
„Yes.“ answered the ten-thousand year old arkonid.
„Must be a drain on their security-forces to keep an eye on those companies and their employees. Nothing against the private business-sector, but civilians should stay out of military matters. Or the production of warships and weapons.“ added Rhodan. „You can continue, Taslo.“
„Yes, Sir. Besides the ships there are several thousand kinds of different stations in orbit around Coruscant. The ones most far out seem to be some kind of battlestations, we identified two types so far. The bigger ones have a lenght of more than two kilometers and their weapons are similar in shape to those of the empires destroyers. The smaller ones seem to be designed to fight against fighters and smaller ships, although they are still thousand-twohundred-thirty meters long. In total there are fourteen of the big stations and fifty-six of the smaller ones.“
„Not much in addition to ... .“ started Atlan to speak, but was stopped by Rhodan´s raised hand.
„Thank you, Lieutenant-Commander. What can you tell us about the planet itself?“
„Coruscant has 1,39times the diameter of earth and 2,75times the mass. Gravity is fourtytwo percent higher than standard.“
„Surface-conditions? Any information on plant-life? Seas or oceans? I can´t discover anything of those on our screens.“ asked Kasom.
„You can´t, because the entire surface seems to be covered with buildings. Some of those are two miles high.“
„Did i hear you correct?“ wondered Rhodan. „An entire planet covered with buildings?“
„Yes, Sir, that is the case.“
The Grandadministrator made a sour face remembering worlds like Arkon III or Archetz in the milkyway or Multidon in Andromeda.
But those worlds had been warplanets, places that housed weapons-factories and shipyards.
It was difficult to imagine a totally covered planet devoted to living and the only world home Rhodan could think about in comparison was Gatas, the capital world of the Blues, but not even that world came close to the croweded place Coruscant seemed to be.
„That would be all for now, Taslo.“ Turning to his friends he asked. „Your impressions?“
„Less than threehundred warships defending their most important system isn´t much, if you ask me.“ started Kasom. „One Dolan and bamm, good-buy Coruscant. Ten-thousand ships and a decent network of defense-stations are the minimum i would have expected.“
„Yes, but this civilisation enjoyed peace for several millenias. Its not as if every two or three decades someone tried to invade their major system with several thousand ships.“ answered Gucky. „And the defense-stations look pretty impressive.“
„But the best they do is perhaps doubeling the firepower of the defense-fleet, which isn´t to big as we already confirmed. This defense-net can´t be compared to the transmiform-system or the old fortress-ring of Arkon. And given the low numbers of stations they put to many eggs into one basket. Unlike ships stations can´t move and as soon as three or four of them are destroyed you have a huge hole in your planetary defense-screen. More, but smaller stations would make more sense under those circumstances.“ argued Kasom.
„We should be careful to NOT take our values and standards as benchmark for the local civilisation. For their conditions one squadron of their mile long destroyers and three-hundred other ships might be a huge military force. I can remember the good old days before we traveled to Arkon for the first time. We only had one battleship and three cruisers and thought we were the kings of the world.“ remembered John Marshall, who had stayed quiet until now.
„And that battleship was stolen.“ added Atlan, who hadn´t witnessed those events, but knew about them from the tellings of his friends.
„From the topsidians, who had stolen the ship themself. So they had as many rights on the ship as we did.“ countered Rhodan.
„Yes, but it started an unholy tradition since your next big ship was also stolen.
You used this ship, which was built by the Jumpers, to travel to the ArkonEmpire to ask for support, because you didn´t wanted to show up with the ship the topsidians had stolen for fear the empire would want it back. And what were you doing there?“
„We stole our next ship, once we learned, that the robotregent had taken over. Right from under his automated nose.“ added Gucky. „One of the only two super-battleships built at that time.“
„But that was the last time we did something like this.“ by that Rhodan made clear, that it was time to return from past memories to the here and now.
„Yes, but stealing the „Executor“ would be a nice challenge.“ dared Gucky to say.
„Lieutenant Guck.“
„Oh, uh, he called me Lieutenant. Time to get serious and „respectable“.“ The mousebeaver pressed his lips together and his narrow chest out, what nearly caused him to drop over. Rowing wildely with his arms he only got his stand back by using his telekinetic powers.
„You´ll never be respectable.“ commented John Marshall dry. „After more than sixhundred years i should know.“
„Fortunately. Being respectable is boring.“
„Well, as funny as your exchange is, i used the time to do some calulations.“ stated Atlan.
„Calculations? What kind of calculations.“
„About the population-density of Coruscant. If it is similar to places like Hong Kong, New York or London the population of the world before us is in the hundreds, if not thousands of trillions of beings.“
„Hundreds of trillions?“ asked Rhodan, his voice suddenly grave. „Do you know, what that means?“
„Yes.“ Atlan answered slowly. „It means Coruscant alone has more inhabitans than the entire SolarEmpire.
And if only five percent of the one million worlds of the GalacticEmpire are like Coruscant we get fifty-thousand planets with similar population-numbers.“
„Must be difficult like hell to evacuate such a planet in a case of emergency.“ mused Takor Kasom. „Or for the population to seek shelter in deep underground facilities.“
„Because of that we never allow the population of one of our worlds to rise past a certain benchmark. Here, things obviously are done a little different.“ stated Rhodan, who had slightely recovered. „In every case this is another reminder about the size and scale of this empire and why we should try everything possible to NOT make these people our enemies. I ... .“
At this moment Rhodan was interrupted.
„Sir, we are hailed.“
„From the „Executor“?“ demanded Rhodan to know.
„No Sir, from the planet. The man identifies himself as Grandwezir Sate Pestage.“

RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
For some reason, i wasn´t able to access this board for the last two days. Something about upgrades or so ...
However, now that i´m back onboard, here is a new chapter of:
The Colliding of Empires
In the system of Bakura the battle between the defending imperial forces and the attacking Ssi-Ruuk hat turned into a stalemate. The Ssi-Ruuk still had all their big ships, but the number of their escort and screening-vessels was down to twelve. The imperials still had their two Carrack-Cruisers and three gunships, but the "Bakur4" commanded by Lieutenant Frem, who had detected the alien invaders first, had suffered a shield-failure and lost half of its weapons during an overwhelming attack of the Ssi-Ruuk´s battledroids.
Both groups of ships had stayed together for the last half hour, the Ssi-Ruuk forming a bulk with their three big ships in the middle and their light cruisers and pairs of escorts at the fringes, always rotating and changing positions to present fresh shields and to replace their ships under stress, while the imperial cruisers formed a line and tried to concentrate their fire on single targets and their gunboats tried to keep the battledroids away from the bigger ships.
---
Pter Thanas sighed in frustration. They hadn´t destroyed one of the invaders captital ships for the last fourty minutes despite all their tries to break up the enemies formation and to concentrate enough fire-power on a single ship. The commander was hesitant to split up his forces again, since the loss of one gunship meant, that one of the two groups wouldn´t have enough firepower and he didn´t intended to give the enemy the opportunity to destroy a lone target. And the formation of the ovoid ships was that thight, that it was questionable, if his forces could penetrate the aliens again. On the other side did the imperials achive nothing with the current exchange of fire, on the contrary. Slowely, but constantely the two groups of ships moved towards Bakura and it was questionable, that Pter Thanas forces would be able to fight the ships and prevent them at the same time from landing groundtroops.
He looked at the thight formation of the Ssi-Ruuk again. Moving that close to each other the alien ships were able to support each others shields and at the same time, they had reduced the distances their ships had to travel, if individual units of their group switched positions. If Thanas suspicion about their cowardly nature was correct he could probabely use this to his advantage.
"Inform the "Malice"." Thanas ordered. "On my mark we´ll go in and try to shake up their formation again. Our shields should hold long enough to pick out a ship and destroy it."
"From the Exchange to a Tarkin-Slash?" wondered the officer at the helm of the "Dominant". Until now the imperials had always moved into the enemy-formation and hurried to get out as fast as possible. This time they would stay until they had destroyed a ship.
"Yes, Lieutenant." confirmed Thanas.
---
Iv´ris whistled unsatisfied. The senior captain of the Ssi-Ruuk had lost one third of his screening-vessels and one of his light cruisers was seriously damaged. As reward he had just managed to destroy one of the alien defenders smaller ships and a second was damaged. And while his forces hadn´t lost a single ship for almost an hour, the Ssi-Ruuk hadn´t managed another kill and the numbers of their battledroids were dwindling at a frightening rate. And as slow as they were crawling towards the main planet of the system, sooner or later they would reach it and only the gods knew, what defenses would greet the Ssi-Ruuk there. But to find that out they were here. The senior captain doubted, that his stressed forces could deal with the ships of the aliens and their planetary defenses at the same time. Maybe it was time to change his tactics again. The constant exchange of broadsides had probabely dulled the other commander´s senses and Iv´ris wanted to beat him at his own game.
"On my command we´re going to change course by fourty-five degree straight into the enemy-line, breaking their spine. After that we´ll try to enclose target two and destroy it before he can bring his other ships around."
Target two was the "Malice", which followed close behind the "Dominant". Only one gunship covered the flank of the "Malice" opposite from the Ssi-Ruuk against their battledroids, while the other intact gunship covered the same side for the "Dominant" and the third gunship, the damaged one, was flying atop the dorsal side of the "Dominant", directing its unarmored side towards the bigger imperial ship and away from the Ssi-Ruuk.
It hadn´t taken long for the senior captain of the Ssi-Ruuk to guess, that the "Malice" was the weaker one of the enemies two big ships. Its captain lacked the initiative and aggressive instincts shown by the commander of the other ship. Perhaps a sign of lacking experience? Submission to a superior, an alpha-male as it was typical for mammals? It didn´t matter to Iv´ris, not now.
---
"On my mark." commanded Thanas. "Three, two, ... ."
---
"Swing around." ordered Iv´ris.
---
The "Dominant" and her escorts turned from their parallel position towards the group of ovoid ships, closely followed by the "Malice" and accelerated. At the same time the cruisers of the Ssi-Ruuk swung around and headed towards the imperial ships, moving faster than ever before, but still slower, than their imperial counterparts. Suddenly all ships were bow to bow with each other, although the "Malice" was following "Dominants" lead. On all vessels collision-alarms started to sound. And while the imperial ships still formed a line, the ships of the Ssi-Ruuk formed a massive wall, since their original intent had been to enclose one of the enemy-ships.
"Pull her up." shouted Pter Thanas towards his helmsman. This was the worst situation possible, called cupping the T. It usually meant, that the own battle-line crossed the front of the enemies battle-line and was able to concentrate broadsides of all ships against the enemies leading ship, while only one or two of the enemies ship were in a position to shot back. Unfortunately now Thanas was commanding the battle-line in the inferior position and to make matters worse, the ships of the Ssi-Ruuk were that close to each other, that collisions would be inevitable.
"Pull her up, you idiot." Thanas almost screamed.
The helmsman of the "Dominant" forced the ship out of its original plane that it shared with the Ssi-Ruuk-ships, presenting the unarmed ventral side of the Carrack-Cruiser to the ships of the alien invaders, that were firing with all guns, but marvellously the shields were holding. Then the light cruiser was out of the firing-arcs of the weapons of the ovoid-ships. The "Malice" however was less lucky. Her commanding officer didn´t react in time and so the helmsman, in the face of death changed the course of the threehundred-fifty meter long vessel on his own, trying to pull her up the same way as the "Dominant" had done. Unfortunately he also tried to pilot the ship to the side, what cost him most of his free space.
The "Malice" rammed into one of the fifty meter long Fw´Sen-Class-gunships of the Ssi-Ruuk and while the mass and speed of the gunship wasn´t enough to destroy the Carrack-Cruiser, the own momentum of the smaller ship pushed the imperial vessel back towards the concentration of the Ssi-Ruuk´s bigger ships. The Lieutenant in charge of the doomed Carrack-Cruiser covered his eyes behind his arms, screaming a last, desperate "Nooo", while the weapons-officer instinctively activated the forward cannons again. A salvo of Turbolaser-blasts hit the front side of the nine-hundred meter long ship and caused its shields to collapse, less than a second, before the "Malice" rammed full front into the ovoid body of one of the three Shree-Class battle cruisers and seconds later both vessels were ripped apart by numerous smaller explosions, that quickly united into one big ball of fire. When the blinding light was gone dozens, if not hundreds of pieces of debris drifted slowly through space.
---
Shocked Pter Thanas looked out, where the "Malice" had been only moments before. He was still shaken through from the prospect of certain death. Although he was a soldier and the possibility of getting killed had always existed and had almost been certain, when those alien invaders had appeared the technological supperiority and the time already passed had lulled him into a false sense of security. The sudden speed of the events only seconds prior had waken him out of it rather roughly. Looking over his bridge he could see, that the members of his crew showed similar signs of relief. They had probabely just used up the entire luck of the rest of their lives, while their comrades from the "Malice" hadn´t been that lucky.
The thought of the "Malice" forced Pter Thanas back into the here and now.
"Status." he barked.
---
A series of whistles and pipes escaped Iv´ris beak-like mouth, while he was still blinded from the flash of the explosion. When his sight returned, he could see, that the actions of the enemy at the same time as his own change of tactics had cost him one of his battle cruiser and one of his gunboats. The inside of his beak turned dry, when Iv´ris realized, that it could have very well been his cruiser with him on the bridge, that had met a violent end, far away from the sacred grounds of Lwhekk. But the enemy had paid a high price for that victory. One of his two strongest ships had just been reduced to pieces.
Iv´ris knew, that the battle wasn´t over.
"Give me a report on the status of our ships." he ordered.

Unlike living beings made of organic matter droids can´t be shocked. Some kinds with sophisticated programming might be able to mimick human emotions or were perhaps really able to develop something like feelings given enough time or a sense or self-awareness, but nothing of this was true for the fighter-drones employed by the Ssi-Ruuk. So while humans like Ssi-Ruuk were still recovering from shock and surprise, the mindless drones continued to execute their programming.
The sudden manouvers of the imperials, as well as the Ssi-Ruuk had not only resulted in the destruction of one Fw´sen-class gunship and one of the three Shree-Class battle cruisers but also the destruction of the "Malice" and also the seperation of the surviving imperial forces. While the "Dominant", the until now unscatched "Bakur2" and the damaged "Bakur4" were now on one side of the bulk of Ssi-Ruuk-vessels, the "Bakur3" had been forced to follow the path of the "Malice". Unlike the destroyed Carrack-Cruiser, the corellian gunship hadn´t been forced back against the centre of the formation of ovoid ships and found itself now on the opposite site of the fleet of the Ssi-Ruuk. Realizing that the numbers had turned in their favour more than sixty Swarm-class battledroids threw themself towards the hundred-twenty meter long vessel. Other swarms of drones close by quickly followed. Soon the unfortunate ship found itself under fire from all angles by more than hundred drones. No matter how strong their shields were, no matter how many drones they managed to destroy with their point-defense-cannons, against those overwhelming numbers the imperials didn´t stand a chance. Less than a minute after the first drone had started to open fire on the "Bakur3" the shields of the gunship failed and countless blasts of laser-energy tore into the hull of the ship. Ten seconds later one of the fuel-cells got hit and the first explosion ripped through the doomed ship. Then another one and another one and still the battledroids continued their assault until the "Bakur3" was nothing more, than a dead, darkened hull, drifting slowly through space, every living being aboard killed.
---
In impotent rage Pter Thanas was witness to the destruction of the "Bakur3" by the blasted drones of the invaders. With the gunship gone his forces were reduced to his own cruiser and two gunships, one of them half-crippled. It didn´t matter, that the enemy had lost one of his biggest cruisers and seven of his escort-vessels and the emperor only knew how many droids. The invaders still outnumbered the imperials and every loss on the side of the defenders had shifted the odds in their favour. Had it been thirty ships of the Ssi-Ruuk against six ships of the imperials, it was now three ships of the empire (one of them damaged) against twenty-two of the aliens. From a pure numerical point of view the odds had changed from a "one against five" to an "one against seven".
Pter Thanas would have liked nothing more, than to take his remaining forces and to threw them against the aliens, who had dared to attack Bakura on his watch, to make them pay with every joule his turbolasers could fire at them, but reason prevailed. The academies of the imperial navy didn´t produce candidates for suicide or other kinds of lunatics and Pter Thanas was no exception. He was an experienced commander, hard, even ruthless when necessary, but he wasn´t crazy. So he took the only option left to him.
"Plot a micro-jump back to Bakura. There we´ll integrate ouself into the planets defenses and await the aliens. And hope, that the "Blackhawk" will finally honour us with her presence." Thanas could barely hide the bitterness in is voice. The star destroyer and its squadron were long overdue.

Planetary governour Wilek Nereus moved through the contol-centre of the imperial garrison like a caged animal. He had left his office in Salis Da´ar as soon as the news of an alien fleet dropping out of hyperspace at the edge of the system had arrived at his palace and for the last hour he had been forced to watch the invaders coming closer and closer towards his planet. At first he had thought that somehow the rebels had suddenly taken an interst in Bakura, wondering, what those terrorists and misguided idealists could want in a system as unimportant as Bakura. The obvious answer to an obvious question was, that BECAUSE Bakura was unimportant, the rebels could dare to show their dirty noses here. Locations and installations the empire thought to be important were better guarded and had more to offer as defenses, than two Cruisers, four gunships and a handful of patrolcrafts, that weren´t even able to leave the system. But the first look on the invading ships had proven Nereus wrong. The rebellion was an insignificant uprising, even if some of its members called it a civil war, but the ships used by the invaders were totally alien to Nereus. The governour knew with a certainity of ninety-nine percent, that no known shipbuilder or other company would have been able to built such ships and in such numbers without the empire noticing.
Nereus surpressed a sigh. Pter Thanas had done better, than the governour would have expected from the commander, especially given the numbers of the invaders. Unfortunately, that didn´t change a thing about the fact, that the empire was going to lose Bakura considering how things had developed so far. Oh, the empire would get the planet back, about that Nereus had no doubt, nobody took something away emperor Palpatine thought to belong to him and didn´t suffer the consequences, but if Nereus didn´t watch out the empire would get Bakura back, but Bakura would get a new governour.
In that case his career would be over and he could call himself lucky, if it was only a career, that was over. For an imperial officer or civilian official it had become a threat to live and health, if he or she failed in a matter, that was of interest to the emperor or his prime henchman, Darth Vader. Some rumors even claimed, that the emperor had his private group of assassins, his "hands" as they were called. In Nereus mind such a thing was highly concerning, but unfortunately it was only one piece out of many in a trend, that became more and more obvious at least since the beginning of the rebellion. The construction of the DeathStar, the introduction of the Grandadmirals, who stood outside the normal chain of command and were only responsible to Palpatine, the appointment of Darth Vader as SupremeCommander of the Imperial Forces, all those things showed, that the emperor was trying to get the military power of the empire under his control the same way he had done with the political power prior. That much power concentrated in one hand couldn´t be good. It almost gave credence to some of the arguments used by the rebel-alliance, but unfortunately nothing indicated, that the current tide could be turned. Bakura might be the armpit of the galaxy, but it was a safe distance away from the centres of imperial power. From the centres of imperial power, but obviously not out of reach of those alien invaders. And he was sitting, no, standing here and could do nothing, while he would be the one to blame, if Bakura was lost.
A beep at the door interrupted the dark musings of Wilek Nereus.
"What is it?" the governour asked.
"Prime Minister Yeorg Captison and senior-senator Orn Belden have arrived." answered the ordonnance at the other end of the com.
"Sent them in."
The door opened and two men stepped in.
"Premier Captison, Senator Belden, welcome to the garrison."
"Governour." acknowledged Captison. "How bad is it?"
"Bad enough. Commander Thanas has lost half of his hyperspace-capable forces, the invaders a third of their escorts and one of their big cruisers, but that won´t stop them."
"What about reinforcements?" wanted Belden to know.
"Should have been here half an hour ago."
A harsh laugh left escaped the throat of the senior-senator. "We are not important enough for imperial protection. We ... ."
"Orn." admonished Captison.
"Why don´t you let him talk?" mocked Nereus, slipping back into his role as guardian of imperial rule on the planet. Let the old man put his neck into the snare himself. Nereus was confident to find a cell in the prison-block of the garrison for this special host.
"Because at the moment we have matters more important to take care of." answered the Prime Minister in a calm voice. "Most importantely the protection of the population." He looked at Nereus. "Can the shields of the garrison be extended for the protection of Salis Da´ar?"
"They could, but the bigger the area to cover, the weaker the shield will be. And it won´t protect the other cities. However we could use the ground of the garrison as shelter for fugatives." a thin smile appeared on Nereus lips. "Would be the first time somebody would move into the prison-block out of his own free will."
"Thank you for the offer, but this way we won´t be able to save enough people, too. Besides this, an enemy would view this garrison as a prime target. It is better we evacuate the humans out of the cities into the mountains and forrests."
"There will be no protection in the mountains and forrests against a planetary bombardment."
"And the protection this garrison can offer is of limited use." argued Belden.
"Better a limited protection, than no protection at all." countered Nereus.
"Maybe. But we simply have to hope, that those aliens, whoever they are, didn´t came the long way to Bakura just to turn its surface into slag. We already initiated the construction of bunkers away from the population-centres and ... ."
An audio-signal from the holo-projector interrupted Yeorg Captison and at the same time Nereus office-com activated itself.
"Governour Nereus?" came the question.
"What is it?" asked the imperial official in charge over Bakura.
"Our reinforcements have arrived. Your tactical hologram should be upgraded within a moment."
For a moment Wilek Nereus was silent. "Thank you." was all he finally said. Manipulating the controls of the holoprojector he caused the holo to show more of the system. At the edge of the hologram the symbol for a star destroyer and several smaller ships had appeared. No longer able to hide is relief, Nereus turned to Captison and Belden. "Well, Gentlemen. It seems there is no longer a reason to evacuate your citicens." Nereus didn´t try to hide a smug smile. "As you can see the empire takes care of ... ."
The yelling of alarm-klaxons put a sudden end to Nereus speach. On the opposite site of the imperial battle-squadron ovoid shapes appeared.
In awed silence the three men watched first dozens, then hundreds of the alien invaders ships drop out of hyperspace.
"We better speed up our efforts." was all Orn Belden finally managed to say.
"Do that." answered Wilek Nereus in a hoarse voice, while watching the marching up of the Sii-Ruuk.

You always sneak in an update when I'm not looking
That was good, and
ouch.
Just when the reinforcements arrive the Ssi-Ruuk bring their big guns in.
