RE: The Colliding of Empires: A Star Wars / Perry-Rhodan-Crossover AU
Believe me or not, but I had this finished at Christmas. I just forgot to post this and then I had to take a forced vacation from the board for the last two days.
So here it is:
The Colliding of Empires
Entering the large chamber, where their first meeting with Durga Besadii Tai was going to take place Princess Leia and her companions were pleasantly surprised. Contrary to the dimmed lights and dark corners of Jabba's throne-room, this hall was brightly lit. The tall pillars carrying the ceiling were crowned with lamps that emitted a harsh, white light. Reflected by the marble of floor and walls the effect was almost blinding to the humans.
Leia's thorough education as a diplomat on Alderaan had included lessons about the characteristics of a number of the most important non-human species and for some reasons one of them had dealt with the large gastropods from Varl - much to the horror of Leia's aunts, who couldn't imagine the idea of a noble woman of status and virtue having to negotiate with a member of the Hutt-species. The young princess herself had enjoyed those lessons, of particular interest to her had been the fact, that Hutts were able to see in different parts of the spectrum. By keeping their rooms darkened they created a false sense of stealth and security to those of their underlings and guests, who weren't able to see in the same range.
"Nice." Han commented in a low voice. "Either Durga really wants to impress us or he just wants his underlings to behave."
"A pity it doesn't work on you." Leia hissed. "Now lets great our host."
His face sour Han followed Leia on her right side and took a closer look at their surroundings. Durga's hall was a large ellipsoid with their entrance on the lower left side and another entrance to their right. This was mirrored on the other end, where the floor ascended into a raised platform, that ended in an wide alcove. Here the marble-walls were covered by expansive looking tapestries and the spaces between the single pillars were covered by curtains of purple color. The arrangement of tables and banks in the lower half of the hall followed the circle provided by the pillars, leaving a large expanse at the centre. Dozens of Twi'leks, Nicktos, Baradas, Weequais, Gamorreans, as well as members of less prominent client-races of the Hutts were assembled with the occasional human or near-human and a small number of Huttlings - easy to recognize by their size and slender bodies - mixed into the crowd.
And enthroned above all of that on a richly ornamented repulsor-dai made by Sorosuub rested Durga Besadii Tai.
He looked almost exactly as Han remembered him. A little bit larger, a little bit more obese - what caused the distinctive birthmark above his right eye to appear smaller - but still a youthful Hutt in his early second century. The small, powerful moves of Durga's muscular tail reminded Han of the stories about the demise of Jabba's uncle Jiliac and more than the cold, calculating gaze from the orange eyes of Durga they were a warning to not underestimate their host.
Oh yes, Han had a very bad feeling about this.
If the sight of Durga gave Han a bad feeling, the appearance of the second Hutt was even more unnerving. This being was clearly an older member of its species, perhaps the oldest Hutt Han had ever seen. As massive and bloated this particular gastropod was, he still looked haggard. All color seemed to have faded from the leprous skin so dry, that it looked as if its owner had been dissicated for weeks under the twin suns of Tattooine. And yet there was life within the mummified corpse, evidenced by the slow-moving, deep-green eyes and the contended chuffing on a hooka-pipe. His presence radiated so much menace and malice, that the emissaries of the Alliance at first overlooked the two slave-girls chained to his repulsor-sled.
Which was quite an accomplishment, because not only were the two females stunningly beautiful, but aside from a swathe of crimson color covering their eyes, their slave-collars, a few pieces of jewelery and sandals at their feet they were completely naked.
When she became aware of the two women Leia almost tripped over her feet. "Han, do you ... ."
"Easy princess." Han tried to calm her down. "They know you have been a prisoner in Jabba's palace and try to use that knowledge to unbalance you before the negotiations start. Don't let them upset you."
"Easy for you to say." he thought. Spending most of his time in a cell after he had been freed from the carbonite Han didn't know, what had been done to Leia in Jabba's palace although he had some ideas. The point was he didn't know for sure and, if Han was honest with himself, a part of him didn't want to know. Suppressing a sigh Han realized, that this was another topic he and Leia should have dealt with, but didn't because of all the other things going on. What did Leia feel at the sight of those two women? What bad memories did the presence of them trigger within her? Han didn't know, but a reassuring squeeze of his hand and the fact that Leia was walking straight again told him, that she had cought herself.
With that he gave the two slaves a second, more scrutinizing look. Both females appeared to be as tall as him, with a package of wide hips, slender waists and full, round breasts carried by long, strong legs. The one to the right of their master had light skin, that formed a strong contrast to her short, spikey hair of purple color. Her companion was a little more slender and had a darker complexion. This woman's head was completely shaven, safe for a broad stripe of silver-blonde hair that reminded Han of Winter. For a brief moment the corellian smuggler imagined Leia and her longtime friend and personal assistent chained to the throne with himself sitting on it.
The thought caused the blood in his vains to rush to his groin and when Han realized what he was thinking the blood started to rush into his face, too. Trying to get himself under control, Han's embarrassment only grew when he realized that the pale-skinned of the pair had turned her head towards him and would have been looking at him, if not for the blindfold covering her eyes. As if reading his mind the woman licked her lips in a slow, laszivious way. Feeling that his head was going to explode Han managed to break the eye-contract with the purple-haired seductress only to find himself looking at the other female. Desperate not to fall under the thrall of this slave-girls georgous body he concentrated on her half-shaven head. Looking at her pointed ears Han wondered, what was wrong with him.
And what was wrong with those two women.
"What are they?" Han asked himself. "Arkanian? Miraluka? A hybrid of both? Some Falleen-ancestor somewhere down the family-tree?"
Wondering about the species of the two slave-girls he realized something else. Dancing-girls and concubines serving in a Hutts court had usually a broken and submissive attitude. These two displayed their charms in an obscene way and appeared smug and superior while doing it. Han didn't knew why, but they remainded him of a pair of vultures ready to devour a carcass. Han's thought-process was interrupted by the majordomus Tyl Che'Vara.
"Lord Durga, Lord Kerzak, according with your wishes I'm able to introduce you to the Alderaanian Princess Leia of the Royal House Organa of Alderaan and her escorts the Corellian Lieutenant of the Imperial Navy and General of the Alliance to restore the Republic Han Solo, as well as the wookiee Chewbacca, son of Attichitcuk from the Line of Bacca." Durga's majordomus Tyl Che'Vara introduced them with a deep bow towards his masters.
Turning around he did the same for the guests of his masters.
"Your Highness, General Solo, according to the wishes of my Master His Excellency Durga Besadii Tai the Glorious, august leader of the Besadii-kadjik and His High Exaltedness Kerzak Etruski Auroa, potent Doopak for the Kadjiks of the Etruski, Besadii, Faljizic and Anjilliac I welcome you on Nal Hutta in this humble hall."
"I thank you for your friendly welcome, Lord Durga, Lord Kerzak." Leia answered. "On behalf of the Alliance ... ."
Leaving the opening-talks to Leia Han feverishly searched his memory for the meaning of titles like "High Exaltedness" and "Doopak" in Hutt-society. He wasn't sure why, but he had the feeling that the knowledge was of the utmost importance. Cursing silently he wished they hadn't left C-3PO back at the Falcon, but considering their recent experiences at Jabba the Hutts palace and Han's own knowledge about Hutts and their culture he and Leia had thought it better to leave the droid behind.
What now seemed to have been a mistake.
"... with the sincere hope, that despite the unfortunate confrontations of the past between our two groups we're able to build a strong and lasting alliance against out common enemy." Leia finished.
"Confrontations that have left their mark on some of us." Durga stated. "Isn't it so, Captain Solo?"
"Depends which way you get out of them." Han answered tersely. "Our last confrontations with Jabba or Prince Xizor certainly didn't hurt your business."
"Hic vara festa esd, macara. - he is a feisty one, Master - " this sentence from the pale-skinned slave-girl caused Kerzak to burst out laughing, while Leia exchanged a helpless look with Han.
"What did she say?" the alderaanian princess whispered..
"I have no idea. I've never heard that dialect of Huttese before." Han had to admitt. "Perhaps we should have really brought 3PO with us."
Despite his rumbling laughter and the rebels whispering Kerzak seemed to have heard their little exchange.
"My little Ba 'ata was just admiring your boldness, Captain Solo. And I have to admit, she is not the only one." He turned towards Durga. "It is true what my young friend said about you, Captain. You are indeed a brave man."
"Don't forget suicidal." Durga commented sourly. "Until there is another explenation for the number of enemies made in such a short amount of time."
"I'll take that as a compliment I think." Han stated. He looked at Ba'ata. "So your name is Ba'ata?"
"It is." the slave-girl answered in perfect basic. "And before your little friend has to ask you, Ba'ata means "toy". Master Kerzak's toy. My sister Sa'var over there is the pet." she gave Han a saccarine smile. "If you wish we can get better acquainted later in the evening." The way Ba'ata displayed her cleavage left no doubt what she meant by "acquainted".
"While I'm certain that General Solo would be most grateful for such an opportunity, I have to inform you, that he has other obligations." Leia - who felt left out - interrupted, while hiding her growing anger. She and Han were here on important business for the Rebellion, so what was this insignificant slave thinking what she did?
"Nimbe por dim, Ba'ata, ki bleek im'erst. - behave yourself, Ba'ata, I've seen him first - " the other slave-girl argued.
"Ud nak bah lefru lenob, Sa'var. Ki chis she'niss do vhip. - you can have the princess, Sa'var. I'm sure, she'll enjoy your whip." Ba'ata hissed.
"Enough, you two." Kerzak thundered. "As amusing as your bantering is, there are things more important than your prevda leebfo (= depraved games). So sit down, stay silent and listen. Do you understand?"
"Icha, Macara." Ba'ata and Sa'var hurried to say.
It was now Durga's turn to laugh. "Poor Kerzak. You're in over your head with those two." He turned to the rebels. "What do you think? Aren't they lovely?"
"Of course, great Durga." Han hurried to say, while Chewbacca gave a disapproving grunt and Leia added a muttered "Yeah, real lovely."
"Thank you on their behalf." Kerzak stated. He pointed at one of the empty dais. "Please have a seat."
"Well, where were we?" Durga wondered, after the rebels had made themself comfortable.
"We were talking about confrontations." Leia reminded him. "I know there is bad blood between you and Han, but I also believe that the elimination of two of your worst enemies has to count for something."
"A very dared claim, Princess." Kerzak argued. "Forgive me for saying so, but wasn't it Darth Vader who put the Prince Xizor out of his misery? And wasn't Captain Solo still frozen in carbonite when that happened? I fail to see how you can give him credit for that. The same can be said about Jabba. We're not crying tears for him, but from what we heard it have been you and Luke Skywalker - who pretends to be a Jedi of all things - who are responsible."
"You are right on both accounts." Leia admitted, what caused Durga to gave Kerzak a triumphant grin. "But you don't know that it was us, who set the events in motion that caused the deaths of Jabba and Xizor."
"Even if true, nothing of this was done with our benefit in mind." Durga stated.
"But nevertheless you were the one to profit from them. And you will also profit from a pact with the Alliance against the Empire." Han argued.
"That remains to be seen." Durga shot back. "It were your superiors initiating the contact."
"And you offered an invitation to us." Leia reminded him.
"Which is why you are sitting here and not in our dungeon and which is why you will be able to leave this place, even if our talks fail." Kerzak stated. "I hope I've made myself clear."
"Clear as transparisteel." Han muttered.
"So why are we here, if you're not going to imprison us?" Leia asked. "Because from what I have seen so far, you don't seem to be very interested in those negotiations."
"Don't get me wrong, we are interested. Otherwise Doopak Kerzak wouldn't be here. We also want an alliance, but we wonder if our respective groups have enough common ground to be able to work together. Otherwise we're just wasting time and money and I somehow doubt anyone of us can afford that."
After that explenation from Durga silence filled the large alcove. While it was somehow reassuring, that the Hutts had doubts of their own the argument of their host was also a reminder of the difficulties they would be facing. Finally it was Kerzak, who restarted the conversation.
"As you can see, you are not the only ones with an itching tail about this alliance. But I have also witnessed the last two times, when the Sith and their minions were trying to conquer the galaxy. That was bad enough and this time they might succeed. I don't want this, Durga here doesn't want it, our compatriots don't want it and certainly YOU don't want it. But if we agree to enter an alliance with you, we want to know what would be expected of us and what can be expected of you."
"Well, I'm certain we could greatly improve our logistical capabilites with your help. Monetary support and contact with mercenaries and privateers to fight the empire could be another contribution." Leia started, unsure how to continue. Her diplomatic training had never prepared her for this direct kind of negotiating. Usually there was a lot more dancing around the hot topics going on.
"If we give you access to our resources, we want to have a say in how they are applied. Would that be a problem?" Durga asked.
"For some members of the Alliance, yes." Leia had to admit. "You have to understand that we try to give every member an equal voice, even if their contributions differ greatly."
"I wouldn't be surprised, if our contributions will exceed the support from every other member. That has to count for something." Durga mused.
"Not even, if it exceeds the support of all the other members combined. The majority of the Alliance-council won't go for it. And then there are of course those, who reject the whole idea of slavery and being associated with slave-holders." Leia explained.
"The Republic you're trying to restore never had any problems with the patronage we offered our clients." Kerzak condescended. "How about you, Princess?"
"What about me?" Leia asked not sure where this was going.
"Trying to avoid the topic doesn't suite a woman of your status. You want the empire defeated. So do we, but that doesn't make us friends. Do you belong to those people, who look down on us Hutts with contempt and disguest? Are you just tolerating us, because you need our help? What will happen, if our truce has served its purpose? I'd like an answer to that question." Kerzak's look tore into the brown eyes of Leia. It took all her self-control not to shift nervously in her seat.
"The Alliance respects the sovereignity of its members. We don't interfere with the internal policies of our members." Han said in an attempt to help Leia, while Chewbacca emitted a dangerous growl.
"That might be true of the Rebellion, but I was asking the Princess on her stand about slavery. On her stand on the empire, too."
"I can't and I won't give you an answer on that, Lord Kerzak." Leia stated firmly.
"Oh, but I demand an answer. Let me make you an offer Princess: If I get the Hutts and their client-races to support your alliance with everything they have in your fight with the empire and the only payment I demand is your personal servitude to me, would you do it?"
"KERZAK." Durga shouted.
WAAARRRRRR." Chewbacca roared.
"FORGET IT." Han hissed, jumping to his feet and reaching for his blaster.
"I'm not sure I understand you correctly, Lord Kerzak." Leia said, but she had paled visibly. "What are you proposing?" she asked, starting to shake with silent rage.
"I want you to serve me. As an advisor or a playmate to my two pets remains to be seen." Kerzak explained calmly. "What I am suggesting is a simple deal between the two of us:
Will you become my slave, in exchange for the destruction of the empire?"

Interesting new chapter.
Let's hope that the next one will come soon, and I hope that Roi Danton will meet the rebels then.
