Another new reader here, F'Teik. It seems as though that your story has attracted quite a few sith lords. But what bothers me is is Lucan REALLY Vader's son or is he just adoptive? Because I really don't see Vader getting involved with another woman even if Amidala's dead. And that new post of Minnie. Can we look forward to another battle in the next post? Update quickly! This and Union, if you can.

When i start to write a story i usually have all the major plot-points and connections between them already made up.

I also try to include as much as possible from already established official material. The problem with this is, that i only include, what is already known and published, so what happens in later (younger) sources doesn't fit anymore.

For example i started writing the Union-story after TPM, but before AotC. As a consequence Padme Amidala Naberrie will still be queen of Naboo in that story when she and Anakin come together as adults. We also don't have Count Dooku or droid-armies fighting clones made for the Republic.

In this story we'll get a different approach to the raid on the Jedi-temple (i think you will like that), the reasons why Padme never appeared in the OT or the extent of Vader's injuries.

To answer Lord Redav's question, Lucan is Darth Vader's biological son. How he will be concieved and with whom will be answered in a future update.

Please understand, after more than three years working on three mega-epics without an end in sight i need a break. A break and a story, where i can see the conclusion of it.

Well, Pride's Prize is finished.
Its been a while, but here is the next part of

The tale of Darth Vader's Son

"I have to admit, you're the last person i expected to see within the walls of our humble facility, Master Skywalker."

"May i ask why, Director Yush?" Luke Skywalker answered. Leaning back in his chair, his hands put on his knees he tried to look as un-intimidating as possible.

"You're Luke Skywalker. The Jedi-Master Luke Skywalker. And with the war against the empire heating up again i would have thought somebody like you would have better things to do than looking after already sentenced and imprisoned criminals." Yeen Yush explained.

"What makes you think i came for one of the criminals? What if i wanted to have a look at the people in protective custody?" he asked politely.

"No matter what kind of rumor you might have heard, i assure you, that those people are well-treated." the Sullustan Director of Altraz said defensivly.

Luke Skywalker kept his expression neutral, as he regarded Yush. The director was speaking the truth, that much his experience with non-human species as well as the Force told him.

"I would hope so. Having these people imprisoned - and they are imprisoned, no matter what euphemistic term we use officially - is against the spirit and principles of the Rebel-Alliance and the New Republic."

Yeen Yush shook his slender shoulders in resignation. "No ideal, no matter how noble, survives contact with reality completely unscatched. We are still at war. If one of those men or women uses his right of self-determination and free speech to speak against us out of hundred listeners seventy might ignore them, twenty-five might stop even their passive support and the remaining five might be tempted to act. We can't afford that." The director was silent for a moment. If each of the persons put into protective custody would have only reached hundred people, the NewRepublic wouldn't have seen itself forced to act the way it had. But with most of these people belonging to the elite of their worlds and easy access to the mass-media or access of the mass-media to them ... .

"Besides, some of those people really were in danger." Yeen Yush added after a few moments, as if to console his conscience.

Luke nodded in understanding, satisfied, that the being responsible for Altraz was aware of the difficult situation and the moral dilemma the NewRepublic had gotten itself into. The naive farm-boy he had been less than twenty years ago would have been shocked at the idea, that a government claiming to stand for freedom and self-determination would use such practices. He also knew, that the next question of his past innocent self would have been, how people could disagree so much, that some of them could be imprisoned and still be good.

What did you do with a politican, who really believed after the oppression of the empire, that his world should be independant from any kind of large, galaxy-wide operating government, if you needed his planet? What did you do with a popular artist, who spoke against the NewRepublic, because it had to many flaws for his or her taste? What did you do with a person, that had lead a normal life under the empire, but who or somebody he had been close to had come into the cross-fire between Alliance and Empire and blamed the Alliance for it?

The Jedi-Master of thirty-five years knew better. Or perhaps he didn't knew better, but at least understood, that the world was more complicated, than an eighteen year old peasant could know.

"How many are there?" he asked, because the silence became unbearable.

"In total or in this facilitiy alone?" Director Yush asked back, playing for time.

"Both."

"Six million in total. Fortunately only few, considering the numbers of worlds and populations out there. In this facility we have fifty-thousand."

"Fifty-thousand in addition to the criminals?" Luke asked in astonishment. "You have to forgive me, but from outside your complex doesn't look large enough to house so many people."

A humorless smile appeared on Yeen Yush's face. "We allow them to choose between a small apartment and a stasis-cell. After three months even those who took an apartment first ask to be put into stasis. And why shouldn't they? Thanks to us they have no normal life, their careers have been brought to an end, so why not stay the way you are, while time passes?" The director's eyes turned to the floor. "I'll never forget, what one of them said before entering her stasis-unit. "At least i'll stay young and fresh, while you will grow old and root." Yush's head got up and he looked the Jedi-Master straight in the eye. "There was so much hate and loathing in the voice and look of that woman and it will still be there, when these people get out and we can't keep them prisoner forever. Instead of solving the problem now, we have prolonged it into the future and our descendants will have to deal with it."

"If they don't have to worry about the empire and a galaxy-wide war, they should have the time to find a solution." Luke suggested against better knowledge.

Yush's only answer was a snort. "You know the workings of a government better than that. There will be always something more important to deal with." The director blew up his jowly cheeks and had them drop back. "Sometimes i think it would be better to kill those people."

Luke Skywalker looked the other man sharp into the eyes. "You're not serious."

"Am i? It would be the easiest solution. An end of the misery for them, no problem now or in the future for the NewRepublic."

"It would also be the wrong one." the Jedi-Master said, his voice stern.

"More wrong, than what we already did? Master Skywalker, i'd like to believe, that i'm a good citicen and a decent man. I'm guarding criminals for several years now and their hate and loathing doesn't effect me. I can also turn out their threats, their accusations, their pleas, their cynism. They commited a crime and now they pay the price for it. It was never personal. But with those people it is different. It is personal, because what i do is wrong and the excuse "i'm just following orders" doesn't count. Can you understand that, Master Skywalker?"

"I do understand, Director." Luke Skywalker said, his voice low. "But you're asking me for absolution. An absolution i can't give you. I can only promise you to talk to my sister and the inner council to put the matter on the agenda and find a better solution."

"Thank you." Yeen Yush said, sighing in relief. Life and strenght seemed to return into his slumped body. "Now about that prisoner you wanted to see ... ."

---

"Alright, now if you put your special ID here, we can get you your prisoner."

"Finally." Miney pretended to sigh in relief, that the formalities were almost over and handed the code-card over to one of the two officers behind the table of the reception-area. The man took the card and put it into the desk-integrated computer. Behind her the young Sith-apprentice could feel Giswad getting ready to fight, should the situation turn critical, if the electronic systems of their special code-card couldn't wrestle the code wanted by the local security-computer from its own system within a reasonable amount of time. She let her gaze move over the unfurnished room, registering the hidden cameras, microphones and weapons, stretching out with the Force she predicted from where the first attack would come and how she was going to react, establishing a complicated choreographie of herself against the rooms defenses in her mind.

"Hmmm." she heard the officer behind the desk grumble, obviously because her key-card hadn't shown a positive result within the usual time-frame. Time for a small distraction.

"Does it always take so long to get a positive confirmation?" she asked, feigning ignorance. When the two guards gave her surprised looks she innocently shook her shoulders. "Its my first tour, you know."

"No, it doesn't take so long." the older guard explained, suspicion already audible in his voice. "In fact the ... ."

"Code confirmed." his collegue explained. "They're clear."

Miney hid her relief. If the reception-computer hadn't confirmed its own code-request, their cover would have been blown. In that case her and Giswad could call themself lucky, if they managed to fight their way out, while successfully completing their mission would have become close to impossible. But obviously their key-card - originally developed by ImperialSection19 or so she had been told - had done its job.

"Alright." stated the Sith-Apprentice. "What happens now?"

"Your prisoner is in detention-block four, level six. An escort is on its way. They'll accompany you to the cell and help you put your customer in his stasis-chamber. Then they'll escort you out. Ah, there they are."

Four prison-guards in the blue-grey uniforms of NewRepublic security-forces appeared through the second door of the room. Giving the two officers a curt nodd Miney and Giswad, who pulled their repulsor-sled with the stasis-chamber behind him, followed their escorts. Before the door closed again Miney could hear the one officer at the reception-area complaining to his collegue.

"Recruits these days. Every year they become younger."

A grim smile appeared on the Sith-Apprentice face. If the man only knew.

---

"I must say the condition of the man is constant reason for concern. I have seen a lot in my profession, but never something like this. Its like the withdrawl of a drug-addict, but those addicted to drugs either die or start to recover after the poison is out of their system. In this case however, the phyiscal decay has continued unstopped."

Yeen Yush and Luke Skywalker had left the office of the director. Leaving the main complex of the prison-facility they had met with an armed team of four at the entrance to a roofed bridge, whose other end vanished inside a small dome-shaped structure at the centre of the roof of detention-block four.

"The only entrance. Inside the building is only a large lift, that forms the core of the detention-block. The entire block is a hollow cone with its narrow end pointing towards the ground and the different prison-levels with their cells are in the walls. Level six, where our man is located is the lowest." Yeen Yush explained.

"What security-measures have you taken, considering the condition of the prisoner?" Luke Skywalker wanted to know.

"A full team of armored guards, automated stun-blasters inside the walls, a special cell made of transpari-steel so we can observe him night and day and a number of Ysalamiri." That brought Luke Skywalker to a halt.

"Did you say Ysalamiri?" he asked.

"Of course." Yeen Yush answered. "How else do you expect us to prevent the prisoner from using the Force?"

"I don't know." Luke said, feeling like a fool. "I just thought that the severed connection to the Force might be responsible for the prisoners condition."

The director gave the Jedi-Master a surprised look, understanding the hidden meaning of Luke Skywalker's statement. "I hope you don't want to suggest, that we remove the Ysalamiri? That is a risk i can't expect my men to take. Even if it means the death of our prisoner."

Luke nodded his understanding. "Of course, Director. Sometimes the Force is a sword, that is pointed at its wielder."

"I'm glad you understand."

The six men entered the dome-shaped structure and stepped onto the lift-platform. Yeen Yush pressed a button and the lift started to move downwards.

"Interesting design." commented Luke. The lift-platform was large enough to easily hold a dozen or more people. It was open towards three sides, giving the passengers a clear view in every direction. The large room of the detention-block reminded Luke of pictures of the old Senate-chamber on Coruscant during the days of the Old Republic. Just that there were no pods for the senators, but broad walkways marking every level, connected by ramps.

"Extendable bridges connect the lift with the walkways. In case of an emergency they're pulled back making it impossible for the prisoners to reach the lift."

"And the ramps connecting the different levels?"

"Are of no use to the prisoners trying to break out, since there is no exit at the top or the bottom level. And to seperate the different levels we can change the consistance of the surface of the ramps. One moment you have a firm stand, the next the floor is so smooth you slide down."

"Very impressive." Luke looked at the central pillar in their back. "What about the ladder?"

"Only accessible from the ground, if there is no lift and no bridge and in the time it takes to climb up security-robots sheltered in the ceiling will catch the escapee. I assure you, nobody can escape this prison."

The lift came to a halt.

"Here we are. Level Six."

Next part:

A prison-break and a battle between a Jedi-Master and a Sith-Apprentice.

Who will be the victor? And who is this mysterious prisoner?

Hmm. Force-using prisoner...

...there are so many bad guys that I can think of.

'Course it won't matter if the Sith Apprentice gets there first. Either the prisoner is dead, or about to escape.

Excellent [b]FTeik[b]. Good to see you back.

Finally!

I have my guesses, but I'll keep them to myself.

Luke is acting more and more towards Legacy Jacen, but he doesn't have an overgrown chicken on his shoulder yet.

I've been a member of these boards for almost six years without a problem. However during the last three or four months i was temporarily banned (largely for disagreeing with the new VIP-policy at the literature-board) trice.

I don't own this place and i don't make the rules, but I'm also not willing to censor myself or keep silent on matters i think different of feel strongly about, so it might happen again and i don't know, if I'm coming back in such a case (there is a live outside of JediCouncilForums).

Should this happen there would be no future updates of my stories on this board, but I am and would be posting them at fanfiction.net or stardestroyer.net.

In any case, here is the next part. Enjoy!

The Tale of Darth Vader's Son

Suddenly there was a hole in the Force, a bubble of nothingness and if Miney hadn't been prepared for what to expect, she might have given herself away. The Ysalamiri responsible for the hole in the all-encompassing energy-field created by all living beings were just another obstacle out of many. And as her Master liked to point out obstacles existed to be overcome and so he had made sure, that she was able to operate without the Force. Considering how far she and Giswad had already gotten into the dungeons of the Altraz-prison-facility half of the job was already done.

The four NRI-guards had escorted them first over a bridge, then inside a small dome-shaped building that housed nothing but a large lift-platform, which had transported them to the Sixth Level of Block Four. There a walkway had been extended from the central pillar, bridging a gap of perhaps ten meters and then they had walked through another fourty meters of corridor with doors left and right. The end of the corridor lead into a large cubical room. Smaller pillars with cages and life-support-systems for the small lizards from Myrkr stood in the corners, while two desks for the guards were placed on opposing sides of the cell made of transparisteel in the centre of the room.

And inside the cell was a man laying on a narrow bed.

"Is that him?" Miney asked, trying to put some awe into her voice. It never hurt to flatter the misconceptions about their own importance people like these guards had to have.

"Yes, that is him." One of her escorts answered and Miney almost heard the unspoken "And we are the only ones good enough to guard him." The man pointed at the prisoner. "Take a good look. You'll never get that close to an Imperial SupremeCommander again in your life."

A long time ago the man laying on his cot inside the cell must have been an impressive sight. Must have been, but now he seemed to have aged a century since his capture. With his hair fallen out, his eyes laying deep in their sockets and the loss of several kilograms of weight Xecr Nist was a thin, frail looking shadow of his former self, more dead than alive. How such a pathetic sight could be of any help to her Master's plans was an enigma to Miney, but she had her orders and appearences could be deceiving.

The Sith-Apprentice allowed disappointment to enter her voice. "I don't know, but i expected a former Imperial SupremeCommander to be more awe-inspiring." She shrugged her shoulders. "On the other side, i don't expect lots of trouble transporting him in that condition." She turned to the guards. "I suggest you take the prisoner out of his cell, while me and my companion open the stasis-box."

The entire way since she and Giswad had been assigned their entourage the young Sith-Apprentice had been working on the minds of the NRI-soldiers to make them more compliable to her suggestions. Miney had known what to expect, that she couldn't use her powers on the soldiers of the NewRepublic with four Ysalamiri around and so she had tried to influence them in another way. It was impossible to give them orders which would be in conflict with their loyality and the purpose of their job, but as long as Miney's words didn't create a conflict the men would be open to her "suggestions", even when she was unable to directly influence them with the Force. What the young Sith-Apprentice had done was nothing more, than a quick, subtle flash-programming, where the effects wouldn't last for long, but long enough for Miney's purpose.

Giswad was already putting the repulsor-driven stasis-chamber upright, while the NRI-soldiers distracted themself with concentrating on getting Xecr Nist out of his cell. Miney hadn't been able to influence the guards, who had already been in the room, but it wasn't necessary. Two of them were on the other side of the transparisteel-cage and the other two opening the cell were covered by her "own" guards.

The door of the stasis-chamber swung open and Miney and Giswad quickly took out, what they needed. Then they stepped back

"So, here we have ... ." the NR-guard didn't finish his sentence. Finally one of the men had turned back and was now looking at something totally unexpected.

"Ups." made Miney. "Seems we forgot to deliver our last prisoner."

Then the combat-droid they had transported inside the portable stasis-chamber started to fire with four automatic blasters, while Giswad and Miney shot the Ysalamiri in the corners of the room. Suddenly able to use the Force again Miney catapulted herself over the cell made of transparisteel, while Giswad and the droid took out cameras, microphones and other devices, that could tell the crewers of the prison-facility somewhere else, that things weren't right on level six. Her rapid motion and sudden landing on top of Xecr Nist's cell caused the automated weapons-systems to identify her as the prime target and consequently the majority of blaster-fire was concentrated against her.

But for a Sith with the Force at her command those automated blasters were no obstacle. Moving her lightsaber around herself the crimson blade formed a wall impossible to overcome for the weapons-systems. Miney forced the shots aimed at her back at their points of origins, destroying the automated blasters in the process. From the floor Giswad supported her with blaster-fire of his own, the tall man had taken cover behind the stasis-chamber. With the weapons-systems destroyed Miney jumped again, landing on the desk behind which the two remaining guards had searched for cover. Now with the automated fire gone, the men tried to stand up and do their job. Miney kicked the side-arm of one of them out of the man's hands, while her lightsaber tore through the skull of the second one, swinging her blade around the last of the guards lost his life.

Sudden silence filled the room and then an alarm-klaxxon started to whine. The young woman ignored it, disturbed by something she had sensed in last guards mind, something about not being properly armed. Using the Force she pulled one of the side-arms used by the guards into her hands, a quick look confirmed her suspicion. The guards had been only armed with stun-weapons. Anger swelled inside Miney's heart, it hadn't been necessary to kill these men. She understood the reasoning behind giving prison-guards only stun-weapons, it would prevent prisoners trying to break out from getting their hands on lethal weapons, but she hadn't been able to count on that. She had had to assume, that the guards were armed with lethal weapons and therefor it had been necessary to eliminate them as quickly as possible.

The Sith-Apprentice jumped from the desk and walked over to Xecr Nist, who stood frozen in his place, his hands clutching at his head in a protective gesture, his mouth still open in a silent scream. If of horror or surprise Miney couldn't say.

"You're alright?" she asked in a harsh voice. The blood on the floor caused her steps to make squishy sounds, since the guards hadn't been simply shot, but shot into pieces from the automated fire and the young Sith-Apprentice felt the anger inside her grow. If she had slaughtered all these men just to free this probably useless wreakage of a wanne-be-Sith ... .

"I'm alright." Nist answered. "Who are you and what do you want from me?"

"The heirs of the Empire." Miney answered. "You're coming with us." She could see him hesitate, after all he didn't know her and her intentions and by the kind of man he was and the position he had held he was no man, who had lots of friends. "Or do you want to stay." she urged him on.

"Of course I'll come with you." he hurried to explain.

"Fine. CD-16 cover the exit. Nist, you stay behind him. Giswad, lift me to the ceiling. We have someone else to pick up on Level Four."

---

Yeen Yush stopped in his tracks.

"Did you hear that?" he asked.

"I didn't hear anything." answered Luke Skywalker. As a human his ears weren't as sensitive as those of the Sullustan Director, so he started to reach out with the Force. "I don't sense the emptiness in the Force created by Ysalamiri, but ... there is death, destruction. - Director, stay here and give alarm. Somebody is trying to free your prisoner."

Luke didn't wait for Yeen Yush to confirm his orders, he unclipped his lightsaber, activated the weapon and rushed forward into the corridor. The four soldiers forming his and the director's escort followed.

---

"We're getting company." Nist hissed, interrupting Miney, who was cutting a hole into the ceiling.

"Guards or someone else?" the Sith-Apprentice asked, remembering the X-Wing with a silver-blue astromech at the landing-platform.

"Its ..., Chaos, its Luke Skywalker himself. What by the nine corellian hells is he doing here?"

"If he stops us, you can ask him." Miney hissed. Satisfied she heard CD-16 open fire at the Jedi. Fire from four automated blasters should be enough to slow even a Jedi-Master down. A moment later she had completed the circular cut into the ceiling, using the Force she levitated the piece of ferrocrete and durasteel to the floor. "Alright, our exit is ready, lets leave this hospitable place."

The young female realized, that she was talking like a waterfall, but she couldn't help herself in her exitement. Her first mission for her Master. Freeing a prisoner from a high-security-facility, guards, automated defenses and to top it all the greatest living Jedi-Master on her heels.

If there hadn't been those dead guards on her conscience, it would have been wonderful.

She jumped through the opening in the ceiling, piroetting around with her weapon in a ready-position she made sure, that no danger lurked on this level of the prison.

"Alright, Nist, you're next."

---

Luke Skywalker's green blade moved like a whirl-wind in front of his body, forming an inpenetratable wall against the heavy blaster-fire aimed at him. He had mostly succeeded in deflecting the bolts, but one had gone through and the Jedi-Master had to dodge the shot, what caused the laser-bolt to pass him and hit one of the guards close behind him. Remembering the escape from the detention-block of the first DeathStar and the deathtrap the narrow corridor there had been he ordered the guards to fall back and take their injured comrade with them, all the while deflecting enemy-fire. He still had twenty meters to cover when the fire ceased and a grenade was thrown at him. Sensing, that the bomb was going to explode before he could return it to its owner Luke launched himself backwards and to the floor, out of the explosive radius of the grenade. Despite that he could feel the heat and shockwave washing over him.

Then it was over and getting back on his feet Luke had to realise, that there was a second explosion to come.

---

Miney was already cutting her way through the ceiling of Level Five and the floor of Level Four, while Xecr Nist was watching down the corridor and CD-16 kept his blasters aimed at the hole in the ground. Not that she expected anybody to come through this opening. Giswad had placed a charge at the entrance to Nist's cubicle and once it went off the way should be blocked long enough to keep her undisturbed from that side.

When the ground started to shake she had to stop with her cutting-work, but then it was over and she continued. Fortunately there were no guards on this level of the prison-complex, but reaching out with the Force she discovered, that this wasn't the case on the next level.

---

Luke hurried to get back to the central core of Block Four. Back in the corridor he had considered removing the debris blocking the way with the Force, but that might have cost time and the blaster-wielding combat-droid might have been waiting for him on the other side and he wasn't sure, if he could use his lightsaber to its full effect in the narrow entrance. One lucky hit by the droid and he would be out of the game.

Leaving the corridor he almost run into Yeen Yush and the guards he had sent back. The break-out had caused every security-system to become active and the alarm-klaxxons of Block Four were making an infernal noise, causing the Sullustan director to press his hands against his sensitive ears, while one of the guards was manipulating a control for the bridge, which had been pulled back into the central pillar of Block Four's hollowed core.

"Is there a problem, soldier?" Luke demanded to know.

"The alarm-systems are overriding our codes. As long as the alarm isn't deactivated, we're stuck on this level."

"And the ramps to the next level?"

"No chance. They're now smooth as a mirror. You can't sat your foot on them without loosing your grip. We're trapped, Sir."

The Jedi-Master looked around. Openings had appeared in the ceiling of the large room and a squadron of droids was coming down, flying on repulsor-fields. The droids resembled CybotGalactica's probots, just that they were smaller, had flexible, tentacle-like arms and were armed with blaster- and stun-weapons. Luke remembered, what Yeen Yush had told him about the security-systems of Altraz. Designed to prevent the prisoners from breaking out, they now worked against the guards. The next walkway was less than two meters ahead of them. An easy jump for the Jedi-Master, but not for the guards and if Luke went alone, not only would he have the intruders against him, but also the security-systems of the prison.

"Am I right if I assume, that the moment we try to climb up the walls our own droids will open fire on us?" If that was the case the situation could become lethal. Hanging at the wall even a stun-blast would cause a man to loose his grip and in that case there would be a deep drop.

"Yes Sir. In cases like this we're supposed to stay where we are and let the automated systems and re-inforcements take care of events."

"Blast." Luke Skywalker rarely cursed, but this time he did. Because he wasn't sure, if the automated systems and re-inforcements were able to take on the intruders. "Alright, then we have to use the ramps." He looked at the guard, who tended to the wounds of his injured comrade. "You stay with your comrade and the director." He pointed at the remaining two soldiers.

"You two come with me."

Juicy.

Looks like Miney and her master are rounding up darksiders left and right.

Though to be honest, I was expecting Bevel Lemelisk to be the target of the jailbreak.

Two credits that Miney and Xecr narrowly escape Luke, but not before Luke finds out she's a Sith.

Since when is Bevel Lemelisk (who is already executed at that point of time, IIRC) force-sensitive? whistling

And what do you mean with "rounding up darksiders"? doh!

I'd forgotten that the prisoner was force sensitive! doh!

And I assumed from Pellaeon offensive (complete with Star Dreadnought Reaper and all) that this fic was set before ABBY 14 (Crystal Star). IIRC, Bevel Lemelisk received a furlough from his captors to look at Hethrir's worldcraft, according to NEGtC.

"Recruiting" would be a better term, but somehow, I'd think some of them (darksiders) would need a little bit of "persuasion".
