	For Jedi Master Mara Jade, I'll save you the trouble or reading back through this story to tell you that Luke turned at the Battle of Endor after he left Leia and Han at the Ewok village. Luke joined his father on that catwalk on the landing site where the stormtroopers took him. Luke then betrayed the commando team, then he and Vader went to the Death Star and killed Palpatine. Since the shield was never taken down, the Rebel Fleet was crushed. For Thejedikiller, the fate of Lando, Chewie, Ackbar, and Mothma will be revealed soon. We will be meeting up with some of the surviving Rebels and through them will learn what happened to their friends. And just to tease you all a bit, Luke has more than one reason for not killing Leia. You'll find out his other reasons soon enough. (Man I feel rotten for doing that to you wonderful readers. Forget you just read that.) The next section will be up soon. I just have a little tweaking to do with some of the dialogue. Emperor Luke kinda sounds like a wimp in spots. Thanks again everyone. 	“That went better than I thought,” Mara said as she and Luke exited the conference room where she had been re-introduced to the Grand Admirals. Actually only three of the Grand Admirals were in attendance, the rest joined in through the holonet. Even with the Rebellion in shambles, the Emperor knew it would be foolhardy to gather his brightest military leaders in one place. “They were so happy to regain control of the fleet movements that I probably could have ordered them to wrestle a gundark and they’d have done it,” Luke joked. Or at least Mara assumed he was joking. Ever since she had made clear her intentions of once again becoming the Emperor’s Hand in fact as well as in name, Mara had trouble getting a clear reading on Luke. “But still, I was certain Grand Admiral Trendle would raise some objection. He’s hated me ever since the Battle of Sangreal. He lost a Star Destroyer and four squadrons of TIE Interceptors in a bungled ambush attempt against Admiral Ackbar. Emperor Palpatine sent me to deliver the news that he was temporarily relieved of command. The little twerp decided to blame me for his disgrace.” “Actually he was about to object,” Luke informed Mara as he turned into his private office. “I didn’t let him.” “What do you mean you didn’t let him?” Mara asked as she curled up in the small chair in front of the Emperor’s desk. “I sensed he was getting ready to make a speech. Rather than listen to him try to drum up support among his fellow Grand Admirals, I closed his windpipe.” Hearing this, Mara stopped biting one of her fingernails and considered the implications of what she just heard. Grand Admiral Trendle had not been in the conference room with her and the Emperor. At the moment he was exploring the Unknown Regions out beyond the Outer Rim. Trying to imagine the power her lover had at his disposal to be able to accomplish such a feat left her staggered. “Quite an effective way to silence the opposition,” Mara said admiringly. “If I had a worthy replacement for Trendle I would have killed him for his insolence,” Emperor Skywalker stated seriously. “Ever since Thrawn’s insurrection we decided it would be a good idea to not allow the Grand Admirals to develop an exaggerated idea of their importance.” Even from her exile on Mantooine Mara had heard of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s attempt to steal the throne away from Vader. For weeks it was all the guards talked about. At the time, Mara had considered Thrawn’s success to be her best chance for freedom. She was sorely disappointed when word of his failure and public execution finally reached her ears. Thrawn had used his distance from the Imperial throne to quietly gather followers in his quest to depose Darth Vader. It wasn’t very hard to fund supporters. Patrolling the Outer Rim and the Unknown Regions had for years been a form of punishment for commanders who had displeased Vader or Emperor Palpatine. Bitterness, mixed with the illusion of safety, emboldened more than one commander to risk it all. So it was that a group of thirty Star Destroyers and various other ships led by the genius of Grand Admiral Thrawn thrust into the Mid-Rim Territories. Staging hit and run attacks to draw out the forces loyal to Vader, the small armada was able to pile up an impressive number of early victories. But it was in the Core Systems where everyone knew the matter would be settled. It was there that Vader and his son personally led their overwhelming forces into battle. Suddenly Grand Admiral Thrawn’s feint attacks no longer achieved their objectives of drawing the opposition into ambush, and the loyal Imperial forces rallied with a series of well coordinated attacks of their own. Once Thrawn’s forces lost the offensive it was all but over. For a few weeks they attempted to retreat and regroup, but found there was no place to hide. Wherever they went they were hounded by the forces of Vader or his son. Thrawn, realizing the hopelessness of his situation, eventually surrendered and accepted his fate. His execution was broadcast to other military leaders as a lesson about the price of treason. “So now it’s all set. You can leave whenever you’re ready,” Luke stated as he grabbed a datapad from his desk. Datapad now in hand, he swiveled his chair to allow him to rest his feet on his desk, and in the process was now no longer facing Mara. “I’m in no hurry,” Mara confessed, trying to sound light-hearted. When Luke didn’t respond, Mara returned to the fingernail she had been chewing on. All of a sudden the air in the office became thick with unresolved tension. Mara wanted desperately to leave so she wouldn’t have to keep her emotions bottled up, but she could think of no reason for just walking out. For the next hour they both sat there. In the same room, yet miles apart.
