	Well gentle readers, here it is. FLASHBACK Since Luke and Mara have obviously met before, we will now take a peek into their past. *************************************** It was in the chaotic days following the Battle of Endor that Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade had first met. The decimation of the Rebel Fleet and the death of Emperor Palpatine had thrown everything up in the air. Luke had been sent by his father to ensure the support of Admiral Litten, who commanded a battle group of six Star Destroyers. The meeting took place on Chandrila, and the newest Sith Lord arrived a day early to look for any signs the admiral was setting a trap. The last thing he expected was to be assaulted by the lovely Emperor’s Hand. Lord Vader had informed his son of the existence of the Emperor’s Hand, and commanded that he kill her on sight. Vader hated Mara as he hated few others. He seethed at the thought of all the times Mara had used the Emperor’s authority to bully him in front of others. If Vader had found Mara first, her life would have been measured in seconds. So it happened that when Luke returned to his new ship after surveying the agreed to meeting site he became entangled with a red headed ball of hate whose life had been robbed of everything except the desire to kill him and his father. She had broken into the docking bay where his ship was parked and was waiting on a catwalk for Luke to pass underneath. Shielding her presence as she had been taught allowed her to catch her prey unaware. Leaping from the catwalk, she came down feet first and struck Luke square between the shoulder blades. Rolling backward to her feet, Mara looked to press her attack when she met with a nasty surprise. There before her, already on his feet, stood Luke Skywalker. The anger on his face was clearly evident, and the lightsaber held low and to his side declared his intentions louder than any words ever could. In that crystal moment, Mara resigned herself to her fate. She had made the mistake of underestimating her opponent, a mistake that would apparently cost her her life. For Luke, the shock of the meeting had been quite different. Almost to his ship, he had dropped his guard and allowed his thoughts to drift when his attention was suddenly knocked back into the here and now. Instinctively, Luke used his Jedi reflexes to roll forward and to his feet. Somewhere in that split second he drew and activated his new lightsaber. Rising to her feet a fraction too late was his attacker; a woman who could only be the one called the Emperor’s Hand. Luke was about to erase this last reminder of the previous Emperor when he locked eyes with Mara, and his whole world changed. Looking at her, it felt as if an electric current raced through his body. Whether it was the Force guiding him or his own lonely heart, one thing was clear: this woman was his destiny. The idea of love at first sight has been heralded by poets and scorned by those who have lived long enough to become bitter. Vader’s son was neither of these, but at this moment he knew he could not kill this woman, or allow anyone else to harm her. Luke deactivated his saber and approached the red-haired vision who defiantly awaited her fate. Stopping an arm’s length away, he soaked up the sight of her and wondered if she felt the same connection that he did. “If you’re going to kill me then get it over with,” Mara had said. Those would be her only words during this first meeting. “I’m not going to kill you,” Luke had answered to relieve her tension. “I can’t think of a reason except for this: I don’t want to. All I want to do is this.” Quickly, as if afraid his certainty would leave him, Luke closed the remaining distance between them and kissed Mara firmly. He held on to this kiss despite her struggles to push him away. When he finally let her go she leapt back and brought her hand up to cover her burning lips. Confused about what had just happened, Mara was still alert enough to realize that an opportunity for escape had presented itself. Cautiously taking a few steps back, she entered the shadow of the docking bay’s half-closed dome and then ran for the nearest exit. 	OMG, that was DAMN GOOD. AHH! Is there more flashback, or must I scream for it? Beg? Kick? Thrash? No wait, money, right? Spice? Herman, I got tinglies all up and down my arms reading that last selection. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Praise must be lavished on you for this feat of fan fic greatness. Keep it up! 	Well I've got good news and bad new for ya Jaded. There are definitely going to be more flashbacks, but not at the moment. They will be spread throughout the story. 	Once again it seems like I'm apologizing for the brevity of my post. This post occurs back where we left Luke and Mara before the flashback. This is the second half of a scene I didn't originally intend to break up, but the perfect moment for a flashback presented itself and I went for it. I'm glad to hear you all liked it. (At least everyone who posted seemed to like it. There may be a lurker or two out there who didn't. And yes, we will learn more about how Mara came to love Luke when the situation presents itself. I already know when it'll happen, but I haven't written that far yet. I'll quit rambling now. I'm just doing this to try to make the post seem longer. ******************************************** “If you’d rather I came in through the main entrance,” Mara began, deciding that now was as good a time as any to make this request, “you could always restore my authority.” “You mean make you the Emperor’s Hand once again,” Luke clarified. “Why not?” Mara asked as she rolled on top of Luke so she could look him in the eyes. “I can hear your call anywhere in the galaxy and be a vital instrument to carry out your will. Even in that prison on Mantooine, when I was beyond despair, your voice broke through everything and touched me inside.” “Yet you never answered,” Luke accused, turning his eyes away from Mara. Seeing the obvious hurt on his face, Mara rubbed her hand along his cheek and turned his face back to her. She kissed him tenderly, hoping to take away some of the pain. Mara knew it had been rough for Luke, forced to helplessly stand by and watch as his father exiled the love of his life. If it hadn’t been for Luke, she had no doubt that Vader would have killed her instantly. Instead Vader exiled her to the Imperial Prison Colony on Mantooine and decreed that if she ever tried to escape she would be hunted down by the entire might of the Imperial Navy. The banishment was meant to be a life sentence, but as soon as Mara received Luke’s call that Vader was dead, she slipped away from her guards. It wasn’t until a few weeks later when Mara surprised Luke in his chambers that he knew she had successfully escaped, and that she had decided to return to him rather than starting a new life somewhere among the stars. “I couldn’t answer,” Mara claimed. “It hurt so much to hear your voice and not be able to see you. To answer would have been unbearable. I hoped that you might forget about me and not call so much.” “I could never forget you,” Luke said with obvious sincerity. “Nor can I deny you anything you ask. Your wish is granted, you are once again the Emperor’s Hand.” “Thank you. You don’t know how much that means to me,” Mara said, a tear threatening to escape her eyes and run down her cheek.
