Kit, thanks! Alas, we flew on Sundays though, but we did go through John Wayne. I like that place so much better than LAX... it's small!
I'm at a cross roads. Part of me wants to go back and rewrite the story to fix it, but the other part of me doesn't want to deal with it and would rather just continue on. Thoughts?

Don't change the story, just add a disclaimer at the beginning saying that the geography of Kuaui isn't exact, but it's artistic license- so there!

*sigh* Alas... since I just spent the last 4 days at Comic Con in San Diego, and saw the Return of the King previews instead of Star Wars, I now have LotR on my mind and poor Obi-Wan is still on that blasted island...

Sorry for the delay!
***********
The warm, humid air danced across a gentle breeze, waving the tall grass to and fro. Though the sun stood high in the sky, thick clouds hung around its golden waves, drizzling down on the western shore. Yet, on the east, the heat continued to blast, even through the thick over hangings of palm trees.
"Ke la'au maika'i ai'ole pilau?"
Obi-Wan placed a hand on the bark of a thick tree. He could feel sweat trickling down the back of his neck, yet he had grown accustomed to it. His feet stung as he stepped on a fallen leaf, its pointed needle-like end finding out his flesh. He shifted his foot onto the warm sponge-grass, concentrating on the tree. He could sense the hundreds of tiny organisms crawling through the bark, shaking his head. "Pilau."
Kali sighed, then jerked his head over to the left, indicating that they move on to the next tree. Obi-Wan followed, touching the tree as he had done before. He did not sense any insects or decay in the tree, nodding his head. "Ke la'au maika'i ai'ole."
Kali grinned, taking out his axe from his strip of belt. Obi-Wan followed suit, swinging the primitive weapon into the base of the tree, falling into rhythm with Kali as they chopped at it. They worked in silence, chopping at the tree until its base cracked and it fell to the ground.
Both men slid their axes through the small slip of fabric that served as belts. Kali stood by the base of the tree while Obi-Wan headed towards the top of the tree. He stopped before he reached the long leaves, turning to eye Kali and nodding his head. Together, both men squatted down and grabbed the tree, quickly lifting it up and placing it onto their shoulders.
Obi-Wan ignored the bite of the bark in his tanned shoulder; like everything else on the island, he was now accustomed to it. He heard Kali holler at him, yelling back a response. Using the force to cushion the tree, they began to head back to the village.
Three years Obi-Wan had been on the island, and with every passing day, his hopes that he would be found dwindled. He had found some comfort in his new life; he had made new friends who welcomed him with both arms and he had found peace. Yet his heart craved for the stars; for space, other worlds, air conditioning, indoor plumbing, and real clothes. Above all else, he missed Anakin. He could not reach their bond, yet in his heart, Obi-Wan knew that Anakin was safe.
The sun continued to blast down as they returned to Lihu'e. Obi-Wan and Kali carried the tree to a clearing, several men ready to take the tree from them. Smoke filled Obi-Wan's nostrils, the Jedi finding a group of women tossing dead leaves into a fire. He felt the weight lift from his shoulder, snapping his head around to see the other men setting the tree down into a make-shift cradle, immediately beginning to strip the bark and leaves.
Obi-Wan rubbed his shoulder where the prickles of the bark had sunk in, soothing out the indented skin. The pain would subside after a few minutes, healing long enough for Obi-Wan to go get another tree and endure the same pain once more.
He wiped the sweat from his brow, tucking loose strands of his long hair behind his ears. His mind cursed the hot tropical sun for turning his hair into a light brown shade; a few more years of it, and he reckoned that his hair would be light enough to surpass Anakin. His neck felt sweaty, Obi-Wan running a hand beneath his thick hair to brush against his neck. He had been tempted to cut his hair; he could probably find a sharp enough rock to do so, as he had been trying to do with his beard. Yet, he let his hair grow out, relieved when it was long enough that he could actually pull it up off of his neck. He noticed that the older men had their gray hair plaited behind his head. It reminded Obi-Wan too much of his padawan braid, so he opted not to style it in such a way. So, he let his neck sweat beneath his shoulder-blade length hair.
"Kulu!"
Obi-Wan's mind came back to the present at the sound of his name. The townsmen had decided to give him a "truly Hawai'ian name", since they deemed that he was now one of them and needed a "better" name. As Obi-Wan found out, his Hawai'ian name was Peni, which translated into Basic as Ben. Yet, as the Chief was named Peni, Obi-Wan was not called the name.
However, Kali, the head constructor whom Obi-Wan had become ample friends with, had not relented in renaming Obi-Wan. He had given him the name Kuluhulu, which mean Golden-haired. However, over time, it had shorted to Kulu.
"Wai?" Kali held up an animal skin of water, waving it at Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan shook his head. "'A'ole." Giving off a small sigh, Obi-Wan picked up a stone from a laid out palm leaf that was covered in tools and began scraping off the bark with the other men.
It was the same everyday in Lihu'e. The sun would rise, the town would eat, then work would begin. Each task was divided amongst the people; there were the fishers, the hunters, the mothers, the cooks, the guards, and the builders. Obi-Wan begun working with the builders, finding life simpler when his hands were working.
With each new moon, there was a lu'au. With each new wedding, there was a lu'au and a new home built. As families grew, homes were expanded. Obi-Wan found the pattern peaceful and rhythmic, yet at the same time, incredibly dull. After living a life of adventure and excitement, routine work left him antsy.
He partially listened as the other men spoke. He had not yet mastered the language, yet he could speak it and understand it well enough. The other workers laughed at something one of the men said, Kali eyeing Obi-Wan as the last piece of bark was scraped off. Obi-Wan understood, dropping his stone into the sand next to him as the others did. Each grabbed a piece of the tree and lifted it up, rotating it over so they could begin on the next side. Jovially, they all grabbed their rocks once more and began scalping away.
"She will make a good wife, that is for sure," one of the men, Lopaka commented.
"At least her beauty speaks louder than her tongue," one of the younger men, Lapaeli, said, causing the men to laugh.
In the middle of them all, Aka, a younger man with handsome features but a broad nose, laughed slightly, shifting slightly. Obi-Wan and the others were building Aka's new home, for he was to be married soon. Wilikinia, Koukalaka's eldest daughter, was to be his young bride. Obi-Wan felt happy for her, yet saddened at the same time. Seventeen was far too young to have the rest of your life determined for you, he thought.
He was not worried, on Wilikinia's behalf. Over the years, as Koukalaka's family had begun to adopt him as one of their own, he began to see the younger girl as a sister figure. Though she was shy and rarely spoke, Obi-Wan still felt an obligation to act as an older sibling over the girl. Unlike Leikele, Wilikinia did not have an older brother to treaten any suitors.
Yet Aka, as for as Obi-Wan could tell, was a decent and honest man. He was hardworking, to say the least, yet Obi-Wan had not found a person who was not. Aka was quieter than most of the builders, yet nice in his own, silent way.
Obi-Wan's stone began to grow dull, the Jedi removing himself from the line of men and heading to a small secluded area beneath the tree line. There sat the tools to sharpen the stones, a young man already hard at work at repairing his own.
Obi-Wan was slightly envious of the youngest of Peni's twin sons. Keoki had matured in a way that Obi-Wan had rarely seen in a teenager. His tanned skin had perfectly grown to an extraordinary height and displayed his already present muscles in a model-type manner. Obi-Wan knew that padawans were raised and trained so they became fit, yet there was still a scrawniness and clumsiness that resided in most.
"What did you hit?" Obi-Wan asked, noticing the large chip in the edge of the stone.
"Rock," Keoki frowned. "It was hidden beneath the bark. Probably nestled there by one of the birds." He filed down the edge of the edge of the blade, continually pausing to see that his blade was straight.
A laugh sounded from the men again, Keoki raising his head and frowning once more. His almond eyes narrowed at the men as they jested to Aka of his new wife. "They need not speak of my kin so."
"They merely jest," Obi-Wan assured him, scraping a large rock along the edge.
"Yet it is still my kin." Keoki frowned. "You would think a man would defend his bride to be."
Obi-Wan didn't respond, merely continued to work on sharpening the blade. Keoki too returned to his work, silence prevailing between the two of them. A shadow blocked the sun over Keoki, Obi-Wan looking up at the familiar presence.
Keoki also looked up, a visage of annoyance crossing his face as he eyed his sister. "What is it?"
"Father. He wishes to speak to you."
Keoki snorted slightly then continued on with his work. "Of what? Why I am not following Peleke's footsteps and learning how to 'better serve Pele'?"
Leikele rolled her eyes, flipping back some of her long black hair as she did so. "I am but the messenger." Her eyes strayed from her brother over to Obi-Wan, her visage of annoyance quickly vanishing into a smile. "Will you be eating with us come nightfall, Obi-Wan?"
"I believe it was Alekona's intention to do so," Obi-Wan answered. He could not help but smile when Leikele was in his presence, heat rising inside him that he knew came not only from the sun.
"I shall tell my mother then," she said, smiling once more before turning and heading off into the village. Obi-Wan watched her go with his eyes, his hands unmoving from his stone.
Keoki gave a short snort, snapping Obi-Wan's attention back to his work. The Jedi eyed the boy, who was merely shaking his head and suppressing a small laugh.
"Get back to work," Obi-Wan said, ducking his face away from Keoki. However, a smile remained upon his lips.
