Hmmm...Lots of action here as well but in a different way--more suspensful and building slowly as opposed to out and out action in Angel's Plight. The situation is gaining momentum here... Perfect. Thank you-I'm glad someone appreciates my crazy random style! Without further adieu...shall we? ~~~~ Chapter 36 In the Gardens and Pool areas, Back West side, Halo’s Tsu Hotel, Alphen, Laten, Matas System* Quickly moving through the lush green, red, purple, and yellow gardens, the Jedi and the Kolistian agent search for their five missing people. Luke turns down one of the stone walkways towards the cent of the gardens. Immediately, the others go after him and Mara says, “Just where are you going without us, husband mine?!” Anakin wisely says nothing while the Kolistian agent, Anu Temu, raises an eyebrow. Oh boy there’s going to be small confrontation right now, isn’t there? “I sense something nearby…beyond the gardens, towards the pools and water arenas,” the Jedi Master replies almost offhandedly. The reaction is instantaneous and Mara’s incoming sharp remark disappears. Anakin and Mara reach out with the Force to see what he’s talking about while Anu straightens her short black jacket and the black uniform underneath that is highlighted with green and blue trimmings. “Let’s go forward, carefully then,” Anu says, anxious to move on. The beautiful gardens are starting to seem ominous and threatening. The Jedi look at her, noticing her unease, and Luke takes the lead through the gardens. Walking on the stone path, which is weaving through this part of the gardens, the Jedi and Kolistian agent search their surroundings. There is something nearby the pool…or is there something even closer? Shivering involuntarily, Anu stays close to the Jedi, who pick up the pace to just short of a run. They need to find the five missing members quickly, yes? After crossing this garden, the Jedi and Kolistian agent look around in a circle. After standing there for a few moments, Mara says, “We all felt that…coldness, right? I could have sworn there was something near here.” “Agreed. Something is definitely wrong here and we need to get to our five missing people as soon as possible,” Luke says with Anakin adding, “Before they are caught by them.” Luke and Mara look at him silently before Luke nods with a grim expression. Anu looks at them and says, “So they are here?” Suddenly the Jedi and the Kolistian look up and to the left as they hear Karina’s voice in their minds. It is very quiet and they know for certain now. Anu is quiet, knowing it’s one of those lovely Jedi things. When the three Jedi look back at Anu, they pause and seem to talk amongst themselves. Anu coughs loudly before crossing her arms over her chest. The Jedi look at her with slight amusement and Anu raises an eyebrow and coughs again. “Need a cough drop?” Anakin asks, innocently. Anu’s returning glare should have melted the young Jedi into a watery puddle on the ground. Luke and Mara grin before becoming serious once again. Luke says, “The Sith are here but they are not aware of our presence. We need to find those people before the Sith do…for all our sakes.” “Hurry, this way!” Mara says heading towards the side of the next pool. Anakin says, “Where are we going?” “Well we’ve quickly searched the first four floors, so we go to the fifth,” Mara says simply and the others follow her pass the pool. As they turn away from the last garden and pool, they see a red and white marble staircase. There are vines growing all around it, ones with dark blue and red roses. “Pretty,” Anu remarks, as they carefully climb up the stairs. Anu follows behind the three Jedi but tries to look beyond their brown Jedi cloaks in order to see what lies before them. The entire staircase is covered vines and green plants. “Nice decoration!” Luke and Mara smile as Anakin adds, with a smile, “A mini-Yavin…” As they come to the top of the staircase, onto the fifth floor, the hallways are dimly lit and there are more gardens. There are vines with crimson roses and yellow and light blue flowers everywhere. Walking across the plant covered carpet, the Jedi and the Kolistian agent all reach for their weapons. It is just a bit darker than it should be. Gulping, Anu stays close to Anakin who stays close to Luke and Mara. The hallway becomes even darker as they continue and suddenly they are unable to see each other. Anu clings onto Anakin with fervor, because truthfully she is the only one who cannot ‘see’ in this hallway. The Jedi hold onto each other and they walk as fast as they can. They wince as the ground crackles and crunches underneath them, especially since they have no idea what they are walking on. Swishing, something moves near them…just behind the Jedi and the Kolistian agent. Luke moves to the right side of the hallway but looks back at the inky darkness. He hears Mara and Anakin in his mind as they wonder if they should move on. Staying here is meaningless, Mara says, leaning against the wall. Anakin sends, What should we…we should RUN now!!! A loud crash comes from behind and they all run as hard as they can down the hallway. Anu who is literally being dragged by Anakin thinks, /Who cares how much noise we make? It’s better than being dead or worse/. A light shines in front of them but the thumping sounds are gaining on them, and Anakin-even Anu-could almost feel it behind them. The Jedi and the Kolistian agent burst into the brightly lit hallway and continue on without any hesitation. As they come to the next intersection, they all look back. There is nothing there… …the dim hallway…is silent as a graveyard. “Why…why…WHY?! Why does this fancy hotel have a supernaturally jungle infested staircase and hallway?!” Anu hisses, hunched over, as she tries to control her breathing. Moving away from her, Anakin says, “Oh my God, that’s so cool.” Luke and Mara and move past him and say as one, “This is the place.” Anu looks uneasily at them before walking up to Anakin, where he is standing just beyond the intersection in bright light. It’s an opening… Onto a balcony that shows all of the gardens, reflecting pools, and even some normal pools far to the right. It’s a blur of color-greens, reds, blues, yellow, and pink! She looks up to see interweaving glass bridges above them and says, “What’s that?!” At the same time, the Jedi gasp and say, “A Sith and our people!” Luke moves closer to the right side wall-out of sight from the bridges-and begin to run down the hallway. The others follow and they hug the wall until they come to a large opening. Above them there was internal balconies between opposite levels and two sparkling crystal glass pathways to connect them. The brownish wall and carved brown balconies and trimmings bring an elegant effect. The lamps are large cylinder shapes with purple and pink wisps of color touched with gold and the lights a pinkish hue. “Trippy.” The Jedi turn to stare at Anu who looks enchanted by all the pretty colors. Mara grabs her and they continue to run down the hallway. Anakin skids to stop in front of them before turning left down a side hallway. Suddenly laughing people, who run by the Jedi like they don’t have a care in the world, surround them. The people literally dance around them before going on their merry little way. Luke says, “That was strange.” “Bad sign,” Mara says. “They looked like they were as enchanted as Anu was a minute ago.” They run down the hallway and rush into an open lobby like area where a red marble staircase is straight ahead. Coming down are the five missing members of their team who are running like mad. Seeing the Jedi and Anu, Lai cries, “Help!” Suddenly the mirrors located to the sides of the hallway explode and the shards go whipping around them. All nine of them drop to the floor before pulling themselves up. Instantly, the Jedi ignite their lightsabers as the others draw their blasters. The Sith comes down the staircase and launches black lightning at them. All of them duck and Aya screams as it nearly misses her. From the hallway to their immediate right, crystal glass comes flying at them. Anakin turns off his lightsaber and throws up a force shield to protect them. The Sith laughs and ignites his lightsaber and thumbs his commlink. Nothing happens and everyone raises their eyebrows. Except one person who is grinning widely…Mara holds her left hand up while her right hand grips her lightsaber. Her data pad is clearly seen…she’s very fast. Taken off guard, the Sith tries to send out a force message, but it is easily blocked by the Jedi. The Sith charges Luke and throws the glass and mirror fragment is a whipping storm around them. It slices at their bodies even with Anakin trying to keep a shield around all of them. Luke meets the Sith’s crimson blade head on, his green lightsaber a flash of motion. The lights flash and everyone falls back down the hallway as the Sith tries to bring the ceiling down. The pieces go over the Jedi’s heads and they find themselves back underneath the glass pathways in the inner balcony area. Mara, Luke, and Anakin immediately send the glass, shards, and ceiling fragments into a side wall-most of them out of the way. The Sith smiles before three more Sith appear, looking confused. Seeing the Jedi, they smile with their eyes glowing red. “Oh, this looks fun,” Lai says, under his breath to the others. There is no response… The Jedi and Lai look back at the others who are staring at the purple/pink lights above and the shimmering effect that makes the entire area have a mystic appearance. “What the-?” Lai says before a Sith cuts him off. “A nice little trap for the wandering mind, isn’t it?” “Having fun with people’s minds? Ah, not unexpected from beings like you,” Mara says with contempt. The Sith smile and bring out bottles from underneath their cloaks. The Jedi eye it with suspicion while Lai tries to snap the others out of it. The Sith take a step before Luke says, with a raised eyebrow, “Are you going to fight or are we having drinks?” “You’re not thirsty?” one of the Sith says mockingly. Luke, Mara, and Anakin share a glance. Who exactly are these idiots? The four Sith have no outward connections-jammed commlink and a collective Jedi Force shield blocking their presence. No need to be overconfident but this is either getting disturbingly amusing or absolutely pathetic. The Sith draw closer to the Jedi and Luke and Mara raise their lightsabers. A grinding sound draws everyone’s attention to the wall and some of the glass and mirrors shards come flying out. “This again?” Mara murmurs as Anakin clips his lightsaber to his belt. The boy knows that he has to protect his aunt and uncle. Luke gives him a reassuring smile before taking a step towards the Sith. One of them says, “Do you know what this room is doing to you? Your friends have already found out except…” the Sith look at Lai who glares back. “…that boy.” Lai’s left eye twitch in annoyance-he’s not that young! Mara asks, “And what, pray tell, is happening to us?” “It is a damper and slowly lowers one’s ability to use the Force.” “That would include you,” Luke says calmly, though he knows this is not a good situation. In the back of his mind, he wonders why Lai is still with them but happy that he can defend the others. “Perhaps, but you get used to it after a while.” “This is getting boring,” Mara says as she suddenly attacks the closest Sith to her left. She dives under the bottle as the Sith throws whatever substance at her and meets his blade. The Sith is forced to drop the bottle and growls under his breath. Luke twists to catch two blades before dancing away from the last Sith. As the Sith closes in on Luke and Mara, with the dark red bottle in hand, Lai fires his Kolistian blaster. The Sith barely blocks the shot and the blaster bolt goes into the wall to the Jedi’s right. Lai swears, not only did he miss but the Sith is now coming for him. The Jedi exchange glances as the hold the Sith at bay. Anakin continues to keep the glass fragments from running into them, reflecting the pieces away and slowly destroying them. 	Yes it IS a deadly game. “Run, but try not to look like we are running…” LOL - that was a great line. I enjoyed the other echoes of ANH, too. Rei cries, “Now I’m completely lost! How do you know where to go? I thought that you can basically know which direction you guys go but how to get through…?” “We can using the force,” Nickian says with Ash adding, “Though we’re not…how are you doing that?” Karina rolls her eyes and says, “I memorized the layout of this hotel, okay? Keep moving!” I like Karina. She's got spunk. Chapter 36 Is Anu hanging on to Anakin because she's scared or because he's Anakin? The bit where the mirror exploded was excellent - I could really visualise that. 	peeks out from yet another rabbit hole Yes, I feel a little like Alice but with friends that represent the madhatter. And the professors are the queen who wants my head and...all that jazz. Except that she is a little too random and tries not to kill people (of course, Mara's over that stage ). Her character has a sarcastic and an amused personality. There's always something she has to add-she just tries to smooth it out. On the other hand, Theo enjoys annoying people and is incredibly witty. Shadesaw Thank you! 	Gah, I haven't updated in so long!!! I'm sorry I haven't been here in awhile. I had a horrible Spring semester, though somehow I pulled out very good grades (though it was literally hell thanks to a crazy Government 300 professor. She was Sith incarnate when it came to tests & assignments. Yikes, looks can so be decieving). I'm almost done with my summer class, though my grandpa just died so I have to head out to California, USA, for the funeral (I live on the East Coast, though). I plan to update when I get back (next Sunday) or so, which means please don't give up on me. I got so behind thanks to the overload of work (especially the crazy Govt 300 professor-threw more work as all my other classes put together) and then my mind was a little fried for awhile. 	Well it has to be still the weekend for someone somewhere...^^U (well I'm haven't gone to sleep yet so we'll say it's technically the weekend until I pass out, okay?) Anyway, I'm dodging lightning storms that are out for my laptop so here it is! Enjoy! ~~~~~~~~ Chapter 37 Main Hotel Lobby, Halo’s Tsu Hotel, Alphen, Laten, Matas System* Gathering around the magnificent red and white marble fountain in the elegant and matching waiting area of the hotel, two Jedi, a Kolistian agent, and a New Republic agent try to act as casual as possible. The New Republic agent, Mickial Spen, says softly, “How are we suppose to act normal?” Theo goes and sits on the fountain ledge and says, “We’re tourists. We don’t do ‘normal’!” “Can we be annoying or better yet flirtatious?” Sirtie Canu says with a wicked grin, which makes the others worry just a little. “Why not? I’m going to get some drinks!” Mickial says before looking at the Jedi. Seth heads towards the marble staircase in order to pretend to study the wall hangings. He calls over his shoulder, “Watch out for the alcohol, I hear they make it rather strong.” Translation? Don’t even think about drinking alcohol. “I’ll be fine! Hey…?” Mickial calls back as he turns to look at Sirtie and Theo. Blinking for a moment, Sirtie suddenly smiles, bats her eyes, and gracefully moves towards Mickial. The Kolistian agent immediately grabs his arm and says sweetly, “Of course, honey! I’ll join you for a drink!” Theo nearly falls off the ledge into the fountain at Sirtie’s uncharacteristically sugar sweet, giggly performance for everyone present in the lobby. Mickial, not one for breaking character, nods and says, “Thanks, wait for me by the bar.” Sirtie grins silly at Mickial before giving a nod to Theo and quickly taking a lookout at a corner of the bar. Mickial then walks next to Theo, who looks up with a smile. “Do you want me to get you a drink?” “Yes, and give me the alcohol but not yourselves,” the young Jedi master replies. Mickial says, “That’s not fair!” “I’m not completely human,” Theo says softly, giving the New republic agent a pointed look. The Elvish human can take alcohol without blinking while any alcohol in their bloodstreams would make them easy targets. “They will get suspicious if none of us drink any alcohol. Also, sip your drinks, I have a bad feeling-and I think Seth is with me on this-that someone will try to spike the other drinks as well.” “I’ll be careful,” Mickial whispers before saying normally, “so what’ll it be?” “Something mixed with vodka,” Theo says before adding quietly, “and only vodka as the alcohol, okay? I don’t want to be dealing with four liquors in my bloodstream or I’ll pass out.” “And your wife will kill you?” “Actually she’ll probably kill you and wait until I wake up,” Theo says with a grin, his jade green eyes dancing in amusement. Mickial, slowly moving away, says, “Your wife strict about alcohol?” “Oh the contrary, we have agreed that as long as we can function to at least some degree it will be fine and definitely not during anything important. Also my tolerance is higher than hers! Anyway, I must stress that as little alcohol as possible be added to my drink and we all sip at them.” “You think we’re already being watched…” Mickial says, turning towards the bar connected the lobby, not even fifty feet away. Theo finishes, “…and being preyed upon.” Mickial walks into the bar, sliding right next to Sirtie, and orders four drinks-one with vodka. Sirtie tries to look as innocent and harmless as possible, expertly hiding the weapons in her possession. Pretending to fix her blond hair, already in a tight ponytail/braid, Sirtie keeps up this performance for the other ten customers and the two bored bartenders. The female bartender, a human woman, leans in and actually asks how it was between Sirtie and her ‘husband/lover’. Walking up the stairs, Seth starts to study the wall hangings but he stops and turns to look at Theo who suddenly stands up. Without drawing attention, Theo simply stretches before glancing at Sirtie and Mickial and sharing a look with Seth. The two Jedi had heard Karina and the others’ warning loud and clear. Since Mickial and especially since Sirtie did not react, then it was definitely Jedi focused telepathic communication. The Sith are indeed very, very close. Coming over with the drinks, Mickial and Sirtie come to sit with Theo at the fountain with Seth calmly joining them. Each of them takes a drink, and they all look carefully at their surroundings. All of them pull out a pocket scanner to check their drinks but only Theo’s comes up positive for alcohol-vodka as expected. “So what happened?” Sirtie demands, while Mickial wisely keeps his mouth shut. Theo smiles softly and whispers, “We were right…they are here and waiting for us. Careful with your drinks.” “Should we even touch our lips to the glass let alone pretend to drink the liquid?” Seth says, looking worriedly at the drink in his hand. Mickial glares and says, “Don’t look at your drink like that! You want to draw attention, you crazy Je-!” His response is cut off by Sirte’s hand not so gently covering his mouth. She giggles loudly but then literally hisses in his ear, “What are you doing? Don’t say anything of that nature in the open!!!!” Before he could say anything, both Theo and Seth look westwards with wide eyes. Suddenly, both Jedi sit back, their faces going pale. Sirtie and Mickial jump onto the ledge and all four scoot towards the middle and into a more private area. With people going up and down the decorative staircases or the lifts and in and out of stores, shops, and the bar, it is unlikely people would care if a small of people decide to sit around the fountain. “What is it?” Mickial says, his brown hair hiding his slightly red face. Seth sighs and says, “There are two Sith near us and we’re deciding whether to draw their attention before they figure something may be wrong with some of their companions.” “By all that is holy! How many are here?!” Sirtie says, her purple eyes widening. Theo shrugs and says, “I really don’t know and that want bothers me. We need to help the others but if there is more Sith we need to stop them as well. One thing at a time though.” “What do you want us to do?” Sirtie says with Mickial leaning in to hear as well. Theo turns to look at Seth who nods that he will follow Theo as well. The young Jedi master smiles softly and says, “Here’s what we will do…” * Upper West Corridor Landing, Fifth Level, Halo’s Tsu Hotel, Alphen, Laten, Matas System The Jedi switch from defensive to offensive positions in order to press the Sith back, especially to protect the fallen members of their group. The four Sith quickly attack forcing Mara and Luke towards the far wall…directly under the surreal lighting. Mara throws one of the Sith away before giving another a swift kick to the head. Elbowing one Sith to the face, Luke quickly presses his advantage and pushes the last Sith on the defensive. Just as the Sith begin to counterattack, a group of familiar faces for the Jedi enters the area with lightsabers and guns ready. Blocking two Sith lightsabers with his green one, Luke turns to see Karina, Nickian, Ash, and Rei come running towards him. Mara, blocking two lightsabers as well, yells, “Where have you been?!” “Watch out for the lights and auras here,” Luke says in warning before he throws the Sith away from him. Mara follows suit and the two Jedi Masters move back in unison to stand next to Anakin and just ahead of Lai and the other agents and soldiers. Karina, Ash, and Nickian join the three Jedi to face the four Sith, while Rei runs to Lai. She gasps and asks, “What happened to them?” “There is a mind trap or whatever you want to call it. Place mental shields around your mind unless you want to get sucked in as well,” Lai warns but Rei stares at him in confusion. She says, “Mental shields? You mean resistance training to interrogation?” “You’re kidding, right?” Lai says, his eyes widening. Upon seeing her still puzzled expression he mutters, “Oh God…plse tel mi, yiu’ke’ mi!” please tell me you’re kidding me! As the Jedi look at the Sith, Mara says casually, “Welcome to a trap.” “Gee, thanks,” Ash says, looking at their immediate surroundings. Confused, she says, “I don’t feel any different…what’s going on?” “The lights act as a hypnotizing drug before rest begins ‘trapping’ your mind. Basically, you’re stuck in your own little world,” Karina says, before looking at Mara, Luke, and Anakin. “Am I correct?” “Yes. At this present moment we can resist but I have a feeling the longer we stay the worse it’ll become,” Luke says, frowning slightly. The Jedi watch the Sith closely as the two groups, six Jedi verse four Sith, face each other, lightsabers ablaze. Knowing that the Sith are simply playing for time, Nickian says, “So what are your plans for us, darksiders?” Surprisingly, the four Sith take two steps towards the Jedi. In response, all of the Jedi instantly bring their lightsabers into defensive positions. “Good,” Mara says, a small smile coming to her mouth. Ash glances at her and says, ”What?” “For them to not be sensitive to the mind trap just means they can block it. If they are fighting us…” Mara says, moving cover Luke. Ash finishes mostly to herself, “…then they won’t be completely blocking the effects. Gottcha.” One Sith attacks Luke but the young Jedi master simply dodges both the Sith’s crimson lightsaber and the suspicious colored bottle. Whipping the lightsaber around, Luke slams his lightsaber into the Sith’s and knocks the bottle away. Karina attacks one of the Sith, pressing him towards the ‘trap’ before knocking his lightsaber away, kicking his feet from under him, and launching the evil darksider through a wooden door. The Elvish human Jedi immediately runs after her enemy but stops when she sees that she has knocked out her opponent. Karina immediately looks behind her to see Mara, Luke, and Ash neutralizes the other Sith. Curious, Karina deactivates her lightsabers and reaches for the dark red bottle. She lifts the bottle to her face and looks at the even dark liquid moving smoothly around the bottle. “What is this?” “I don’t know,” Luke says, drawing her attention from the queer looking bottle. Mara then says, “We have to get out of this area right now.” “What do we do about the Sith?” Nickian says but Lai cuts him off with, “How about what should we do we all our dazed friends? And if we don’t hurry we’re going to join them! My head is already hurting!” “Mine too…” Ash says as she suddenly staggers. Nickian dives and catches the older Jedi Knight before she crashes to the ground. “I believe this supports my case that we need to go!” Mara says, as the others immediately run to carry or drag their friends out of the area. “We’ve been here too long and Ash is gone!” “What about the Sith?” Nickian cries, repeating himself. Karina looks at Luke and the two Jedi masters take part of a wall hanging from a previous corridor, wrap it around the Sith, open one of the doors using the Force, and throw all four Sith together like a package, “And they’re going to stay because…?” Lai says, a bit cheeky considering he’s taking to Karina, but stops when Mara pries one of the corks out of the bottles and pours some of the dark colored liquid down each of the Sith’s throats. “Ew, that’s lovely,” Rei says in disgust before wincing as Lai gives her dark look. His headache is getting worse and her commentary not matter how little is going to annoy him. “Time to go,” Luke says and they quickly get out of the corridors aftereffects and down towards the gardens. Anakin asks. “Are we going back there?” “No, we’ll go to the main garden area and back to the original room,” Luke says after looking at Karina. Mara asks, “Why? “There are Sith everywhere and Lai…?” Karina stops to allow Lai to explain, “The darksiders are everywhere. We saw them as we left the hotel room, and we couldn’t go near the lifts nearby in fear that they would see us. The rooms in that area are probably watched.” “So we’re going into the gardens?” Mara says, everyone nods. They slip down another wood paneled, lush carpeted hallway before Anakin says, “We have to use the Force to get everyone there.” “Don’t worry, we can block everyone’s Force signatures!” Nickian says with a smile and Karina nods. The young Jedi masters then all share a quick glance. How many more Sith are at this hotel and is there any more hallways like that weird mind trap?
