Okay, here's the deal, I'm posting the epilogue on one condition: you all review! Even you, lurkers! I know you're there, and I want to hear from you, seeing as this is my last chapter post on this thread! Please let me know what your reactions are! And, if you want to read the updated chapters of this story on ff.net, just search for my pen name on that site, Tiniwiel and review! I'll appreciate it a lot. Okay, here it is, the end.
Adrienne felt, rather than heard a pair of footsteps padding up the sand pathway to her hut. Slowly she stood, age creaking her knees and raised a weathered hand to shield her eyes from the twin suns’ blaze. She felt much older than her 50 years, having given up her routine exercises as she had done at the Temple once she settled into her mother’s hut. She gasped slightly at the figure of a man whom she thought had forgotten her, his face still strong and beautiful, though age and tragedy lined its edges. She watched him as he walked towards her, his eyes somber and his face grim. They stood in silence for a moment, before a small smile broke across her face.
“Hello, Ben.” Her lips moved awkwardly around the nickname she used for him, those many years ago when they were young. He failed to return the smile, exhaustion and sadness preventing him to do so. She brushed a graying lock from her eyes and stepped aside. “Please, come in.” He did so silently and she found herself yearning for the sound of his voice. It never failed to calm her. He sat in a chair against the wall, letting out a deep sigh. Adrienne now noticed the singes on his tunic, the dried blood and tears on his cloak. Her brow furrowed in worry.
“Obi-Wan, what’s happened?” He looked at her, their eyes meeting in a breath-taking moment. Confusion clouded his sad blue eyes and he spoke for the first time, his voice dry with stale tears.
“You haven’t heard? Oh, Adrienne. So much. Anakin’s turned, joined with the Emperor. Together they slaughtered all the Jedi, even the younglings. Mace was the first.” Bitterness swallowed his words as he spoke. Adrienne stared, gaping at him disbelieving. Tears welled up for her fallen friend. Had that sweet little boy murdered him? Had he gone to his death with the thought that he hadn’t done enough to help her? She knew he thought so; it was in his voice each time they spoke.
“You mean…. Anakin’s the new Dark Lord I heard them speak of in the market? He’s the one who’s sent out the troopers to watch the cities?” Obi-Wan nodded wearily, grief and self-disappointment in his words as he spoke.
“I thought I could teach him as well as I had been taught. How foolish I have been. When Mace told me of your vision, I vowed I would never let that happen, but it was as you saw, Adrienne. We fought for ages, and I left him clinging for his life on the shore of a river of lava. Padmé, the senator I’m sure you’ve heard about, had his children. Twins. I gave one to Owen Lars.”
“Lars. Yes, I know of him. He’s a moisture farmer on the other side of the Wastes.” Obi-Wan nodded, sighing again. Adrienne stared at him, taking in his defeated appearance. Not so much has changed since their last meeting, both of them weary and sad and having no other options but to give up.
“No, not so much has changed.” He whispered in agreement to her silent statement. Adrienne glared, not very pleased with his intrusion. “Sorry, old habit.” He said quickly, hoping to avoid any outbursts from his old love and shutting his eyes slowly. How tired he was, and what he wouldn’t give for some sleep. Adrienne sighed, knowing intuitively that this day would come, where she would have to make a choice. Having Obi-Wan here would make it that much easier. It was time.
“Ben, do you think about the day I left?” She asked in a small voice, afraid of the answer. He opened his eyes to stare at her curiously. He studied her a moment before answering.
“Every day.” Adrienne’s heart leapt with hope.
“Do you think we should have made another choice?” Obi-Wan gave a slightly exasperated sigh, as though he was about to berate a child for asking the same question for the hundredth time.
“Adrienne, you know we can’t change what happened. We both agreed we could not go on.”
“But we both wanted it to.”
“The choice has been made!” He cried with finality. Adrienne nodded, realizing that she was not the only one clinging to the past.
“You still follow the ways of an Order that is dead.” She said bitterly, hoping to sting him with her words. It was selfish after all he had been through, but she could not help it. She had earned the right to be selfish; leaving him all those years ago was because she knew he would have not given in, no matter how hard she argued.
“Yes, because there is a chance in Anakin’s son and daughter for the Jedi to return. It will take many years, but I cannot falter now if I want to train the last of the old Jedi and the first of the new.” His stubbornness had not waned, though his logic has, she though dryly. She knew arguing would never change his mind and she raised a hand to ward off any more fighting.
“Alright, Obi-Wan. I understand. Now you must eat, I am sure you haven’t in the past couple of days.” The mention of food made his stomach rumble traitorously. The man he considered brother just murdered his entire life, a little boy’s future rested on his shoulders, and he was hungry? It was shameful. Adrienne laughed, the first true laugh in a long time, and walked towards the humble kitchen.
“Come, I will make you something.” He followed her, sitting once again in a chair at the table. He watched as she pulled various foods from cabinets and a small cooler, chopping and mixing. He sat back, wondering if perhaps he could live a quiet life like this, with Adrienne at his side, keeping a watchful eye on young Luke. No. His voice argued. It would be a distraction, an attachment. Did Anakin not begin his path to corruption for fear of losing Padmé? He shook his head from these thoughts and continued to watch as she plated their food, and sprinkled something on her own.
“What spice is that?” He asked as she sat beside him, setting a steaming plate before him. She hesitated a moment, a small flicker of fear passing through her eyes before she looked at him, smiling.
“Oh, just some local spice I have grown accustomed to. It’s quite strong, but I don’t think you’d like it.” Obi-Wan shrugged, too hungry with the intoxicating smells now wafting towards his nose. He dug in eagerly, not caring how barbaric he looked, just wanting to eat, and perhaps sleep, though he knew it would not come easily. The clatter of Adrienne’s fork on the floor stopped him with his spoon halfway to his mouth. He looked over just in time to see her fall to the floor, convulsing slightly.
Instantly he was at her side, her head in his lap, his body shaking with fear.
“What’s happened? What’s wrong?” She looked at him lovingly, a peace glowing in her eyes.
“For weeks now, I have been thinking. Thinking about you, about me, how my life has turned out. I decided that I would try one last time to fight for our love, what we had, what we could have been. It is lucky that you came tonight, for I don’t think I would have the courage to do this without your answer. I put a poison on my food that grows in the desert. I made an antidote thinking that I would lose my courage and continue to cling to hope. But there is no more hope to cling to, love. I know you will too well, teaching the child is your focus and there is nothing left for me. Don’t cry.” She whispered as tears fell from his eyes. She could not die! He would not let her. His heart ached as her skin paled and her voice grew faint. “This is how it should be, you go on as the great Jedi you are, and I die, the woman I am. I won’t be alone, I will have Mace, and so I don’t want you following me. You have many more things to do before you die, and I want you to do them without the burden of my loneliness. Goodbye love.” She breathed the words, an echo of their last parting, before the life dimmed from her eyes. Obi-Wan’s tears fell faster, his cries of anguish echoing in the darkening desert. She could not leave him! He did not want to live here alone, he could not. As his cries softened, he dimly realized that the body he clutched was cold, and he his knees ached from kneeling on the cold floor. Dimly he remembered the last time he clutched a loved one in death, the smell of burnt flesh hovering over his master’s lifeless body. How many more would die before there was peace?
Brushing the tears from his eyes, he searched the dark hut for a glow rod. He worked late into the night, digging a grave to place her body in. He found a piece of stone that had fallen from the hut’s roof and used the lightsaber to create her headstone. Soon the twin suns would rise over the horizon and he would do as she said, live on to finish what he had started. He would watch over the boy, make him a Jedi, and one day, help him face his father. But tonight, he would mourn. Mourn for Padmé, mourn for Anakin, mourn for the Jedi dead on the Temple steps, but most importantly of all, he would mourn himself and for Adrienne, and the love they kept buried until it was too late.

It was explained in dialogue/flashbacks. After she goes off the deep end, so to speak, because Obi-Wan broke it off (this is all when they were younger, remember) she goes to Jorj (who was the young guy in the cafe) and becomes part of the Anti-Jedi movement and her first assignment is to capture him and bring him to the boss so they can try and extract information he knows of the Temple, but he resists it and it wipes out his memory of that incident, including her, and it was in a warehouse and he was screaming and it was a whole thing. That's what that was all about. I am thinking about writing a prequel to this (just call me George ) and go into that stuff in more detail. Maybe. I haven't decided yet.

noooooo!!! (mirroring obi scream in TPM)
You let her die...
argh I hate Obi now. Sheesh, he still acts like a giant stiff even when the order is gone. Poor poor misunderstood Adrienne..
nevertheless, this was very well written, and really shows just how much Obi-Wan has lost, and how Adrienne never really found peace.
I would very much enjoy a prequel

Yes I know I'm evil But I could not end this story with them both living, just couldn't. And the prequel is pretty much going to happen, I just want to finish my Harry Potter story first, now that I don't have to work on this one anymore. I will let y'all know here when I post it!

Yes, sad I know, but hey, think of it this way: they'll see each other again in the Force. Or something like that.
