AdamBertocci posted: "Speed Racer" is quite a thing. It's the kind of thing you have to see on the big screen I think, not something to own and treasure forever. But there's any number of dazzling shots, the performances are all top-notch even in thankless roles and Christina Ricci's sexy as hell.
It's not much in the way of story, but what story there is is nice and even touching in a small way.
Even if it is not a great movie, it is a great experience, and an interesting movie at worst.

Rick McCallum loves you! Ha-ha!
Nice review.
I liked your Broadway analogy. I'd been using B&W film as my analogy in explaining it to people. Watch any classic B&W film ... and you quickly ignore the complete lack of color. Of course ... this movie takes the opposite approach.
I still say this was a "fan film" ... and the opening sequence solidified this for me more than ever.
As a fan of the original cartoon, I was hooked on the film after seeing the animatics (without audio) when post production was just kicking off. Fantastic use of digital film technology to create something genuinely (and unappologetically) bold and unique.
Looking forward to taking my kids to see this tomorrow.

Pwned.
Yeah, I hac never actually read that, I was going by This site for that one. (I wanted to see the list of comics he'd been in that I haddent read.) But I just realized that '63 was when "The Avengers" first came out... So yeah, I was wrong about that one. I didn't think it sounded right. lol

I bought a depth of field adapter for my Hv20 sometime in January, and I've been getting some pretty awesome shots with it after getting over the learning curve.
How much did that thing run you? I've been using a simple 2x zoom lens to change up my DoF a bit, but it's fairly limited in it's application. I can't have the camera zoomed all the way back with it on, or there's a black ring in the footage which is the interior of the lens.
Any negative side? Extra grain, darker images?

I want to get a 35mm adapter when I get my hv20. One of the local filmmakers here in SA, (the guy who hired me to do effects for his film), has one for his hv20, and the footage it gets is beautiful... For lack of a better word...

I know that I'm late on this, but I just saw it... I make it down town, (about a thirty mile drive from where I live), on a $1.15... And then $0.15 for the trip back, along the same rout...
Bod bless the buss system. I can get anywhere in San Antonio for between $1, and $2.

If you get on the bus where I live, that $1 might be the last thing you ever spend.

You pretty much listed the most apparent issues with DoF adapters. Light loss always occurs when using a DoF adapter, but the amount of light lost depends on distance between the focusing screen and the camera lens as well as properties of the focusing screen itself. Grain is mostly an issue when you have a shot with a lot of motion since the grain particles are static and stand out more when the subject is in motion. Vibrating the focusing screen is a simple way around this. Chromatic aberration can also degrade the image quality from DoF adapters, especially around the sides of the image. However, this problem also has a simple solution--an achromat. From my experience, the adapters are also somewhat cumbersome, but I suppose that's part of the learning curve.

I'm in mental anguish at the moment... I'm supposed to have a pilot script for a mini-series done by the end of the month, but I have writers block. It usually wouldn't worry me that much, if it weren't for the fact that I already have the entire movie written out in my head. I usually don't plan it out, I just use the "quija board" method. Where it writes itself, and I just kinda tag along and read as I go...
I need a late...

I've got a random question... If girls with blond hair are called blonds, girls with brown hair are brunetts, and girls with red hair are called redheads... What are girls with black hair? Would the be black heads?
