I don't think the first batch of entries are still around online. Try finding someone to send them to you over AIM or something.

Hey Rybot,
Your fight is awesome. I've still got it on my hard drive. I even used several seconds from it to show one of my cast members some moves I wanted him to learn. Good stuff.

Question: We only being judged on Choreography, not effects, right? 'Cause if so, I'm just gonna save some time and use AlamDV2.

Effects, costumes, sound effects are encouraged but not necessary.

Yeah, alot of the clips weren't roto'd last time. Even if you are using Alam it will look much better than having no FX at all.

Prize idea (probably not any good): TFN could host the winning entry?

I'm just throwing out ideas here, sorry if its no good.

I dunno.. honestly, I've seen unrotoed RvD shots and they almost looked cooler. cool

I'm tempted to say try to get the FX in there.. but if for whatever reason.. say your not good at it, you don't have the time to put much work into it, whatever... and it's gonna come out crappy, you might as well not do the FX at all.

Honestly, some times just seeing sticks together almost looks better, depending on the lighting, shutter, fight style, etc.. because since your seeing real objects, they tend to have more dimension.. and obviously realism. I'd say the FX shouldn't matter much, but I could seem them swaying thought mildly.. if say one entree had really bad flat looking sabers.. and the other had well rotoed, very dimensional sabers.

I suppose a lot of it depends on the cinematography too. With the tendency of lightsabers to lack dimension and come out looking flat or too short from certain angles, some shots that would work well with real objects (swords, sticks), don't look as impressive.

But yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much... the judges will likely stay as focused as they can at the choreography at hand. My advise would be to finish filming, then roto certain key shots, and if it looks particularly worse.. don't continue. thinking

Also figure, some styles of fighting, of course, might seem pretty cool with lightsabers, but pretty stupid with sticks.. or even real swords. Figure how the New Hope Obi vs Darth fight would look, if it were just wodden sticks. If it's anything like that.. or at least if any scenes are, make every effort to roto it wink

Having it rotoed adds the "you actually tried" effect to it.

Covax's ChoreoComp III More Crack Award

Ah yes - "Versus" - the movie where the script was clearly written by people with a fat bag of crack that required "MORE KUNG-FU!!! MORE GORE!!! MORE ZOMBIES!!!!" with each inhalation.

As for the roto-ing thing:

Don't delude yourselves. While effects aren't required, a completed entry with effects, sound and a semblence of a plot will blow away anything without. Search for the last contest threads, and you will see how they play out. Don't make the assumption it will be any different this time.
