I'm such a fanboy.
*shakes head*
It's just harder for me to vote on choreography since seeing that film.

Well it is pretty silly for Ryan, one of the contest organizers, to have even proposed another LS Choreo Competition, especially knowing that nothing could ever beat the likes of RvD.
EDIT: It has to be said that
this is all sarcastic, and I know it needed to be spelled out for a select few. I'd rather they figure out how to highlight the sum of these texts and move on instead of complaining why anyone would bother with this competition. 'Cause clearly they have.

It's even sillier for him to have entered a fight himself. (Albeit without Dorkman)
Oh, the irony.
I mean, if Ryan Vs. Dorkman can't be beaten, I guess we should all just give up...

Ryan vs Dorkman is beyond perfection. Their movie belongs amongst the gods. You can't beat something like that.

Forgive my ignorance, but is RvD the #10 entry? Have they won previous contests?
I'd like to see any old footage of them in previous contests if it exists.

Wow... Ryan is basically a god around here isnt he. He could probably submit a shot of him dancing around swinging a saber like a maniac and would still win because of his name.
>> no offense intended to ryan. only to those who worship him.
>>> forgive my bluntness. i speak my mind.

While 'Ryan vs Dorkman' is indeed a very entertaining clip and exhibits some pretty good fighting, it is far from perfect. The combatants, while having good manual saber skills, lack greatly in the footwork department.
In my mind, 'Art of the Saber', by the Ho brothers, ranks as the best saber fighting outside of the SW films. Their moves are graceful, beautifully executed, and logically fluid in their motion. Their choreography in general is intense, relentless, and almost ballet-like in certain portions. Nothing, and I mean nothing, has matched it in terms of overall body mechanics head-to-toe. This is just constructive observation and, of course, my opinion. But in my eyes, a beautiful lightsaber fight is the total execution of the performer, not just agressive saber twirling.
However, even 'Art of the Saber' is not 'perfect' (as if anything in the subjective world of art can be). They used toy lightsabers and the FX work is not the best.
That said, if we are judging based on entertainment value, there is no doubt, RvD is a top contender in the annals of the fan films forums.
Again, just my humble opinion.

RE: ***LIGHTSABER CHOREOGRAPHY CONTEST III*** VOTING / REVIEW THREAD
Here are my gut reactions to some of the films, just viewing them from an enjoyment perspective, not a technical viewpoint :
slsf = "standard lightsaber fight", i.e. nothing that blew me away particularly
02 wire fu, some style, some good camera work
04 poster child for god-awful stick-bashing or looking for the blade .. good ending, though
05 slsf, but great ending (cookies)
06 kicks butt on style and production values ****
07 slightly better than average slsf loved the dark lighting and the occasional ls FX .. looks great against a dark background
08 pretty good .. good choreo, will probably win .. liked the dark scenes, but probably should have made them a little less dark *****
10 little better than average slsf nice decap at the end
11 slsf but comical, esp. with the music
13 quirky, FX were good enough to make it funny, I like it ****
16 slsf .. ending is nice like 05
18 funny but too long
22 something a bit cool about this one .. location?
23 slsf but a bit of humor at the end
24 very nice .. intense + good filming ****
25 has some style
26 a little above average
27 huge points for the hot chick at the end ****
My top five:
1. 08 Best overall look and feel for action
2. 06 Kick-butt style .. stands out above the crowd !
3. 13 Quirky and funny
4. 24 Like the intensity
5. 27 VERY hot chick at the end

Wow, I would have thought there would have at least been some sarcastic responses to what I said.
Nobody's work is perfect by any means. It could easily have been said that RvsD should have had Costumes and a Story, but after all, it's best Choreography we're talking about here.
Remember all, jealiousy leads to the darkside.

I have to agree with buliwif. While I have no issue with the opinions about the entries that dorkman has stated, I DO have an issue with some of the "facts." As an expert in some of the topics he's made statements about, I can tell you, he's got it completely wrong. He makes some very assured and completely incorrect statements on several occasions. The tone in which he comments in all of these reviews is obnoxious, and would never pass on any other board but here. It's sad to see so many people coming to his defense. It's like someone standing up in the middle of the room, saying bad things about you and your mother, slapping you in the face, and then you say "thank you." You justify it as if it's appropriate, even though you know it's not. I think it does a disservice to the rest of us. I have more to say on this (a LOT more) but, it will have to wait.

RE: ***LIGHTSABER CHOREOGRAPHY CONTEST III*** VOTING / REVIEW THREAD
I agree that RvD is one of the best LS fights ever, even fights from Phantom Menace and Clones were no where near as thrilling or imaginative, the idea of the lightsaber 'tug of war' is bordering on genius, even a so called creative guru like George Lucas has never used that one, the tug of war followed by the telekinetic ignition death, well it is easily one of the best things I've seen in any movie.
But, RvD isnt perfect, some of the sabre hits look lacklustre, the part where Dorkman disables Ryan of his lightsabre, never looks strong enough to me, and the part where they fight on the floor, could be faster, and theres definitely a proper kill shot in that scene that isnt utilized (i'm looking at you Dorkman
)
That aside, it ranks as in my opinion, the best fan film I've seen. It never gets boring, but I truly believe a better fanfilm duel can be made. Although, it'll be hard to create a better climax than that tug of war death, damn that is sweeeet! BEcause it is the first real "quality" fanfilm duel, it will always be held high.
