tumblemoster, I'm interested in specifics in what you're complaining about. Where, exactly, did he go wrong or state a falsehood? He was giving a review, and you're angry that he pointed out the negative aspects to an entry? I can understand the wish to have your ego stroked (good entry, yes, snookums), but what's the point? As far as I've seen, people are bitter about that single fact.

Deal with it, kthx.

It's not just in this competition, but on critiquing in general on this forum. People don't seem to understand the difference between constructive and strictly-positive.

Well, you've obviously broken the internet! Good going!

But, seriously folks... I think that the main server is down because of bandwidth issues. This is why all the images on the voting page are broken...

Search through the thread for the various mirrors that people set up.

    SUMT came ... and went
That it did… that it did...

It could easily have been said that RvsD should have had Costumes and a Story

I don’t understand why people keep forgetting that Ryan vs Dorkman did have a story…

“What began as a friendly rivalry between two effects artists explodes off TheForce.Net's FanFilms Forum and into the real world in a lightsaber battle royale. Originally created for the forum's lightsaber choreography competition, this fight to the death will decide once and for all who is truly most skilled with a saber. There can be only one.”
Anywho some guys have got to chill out with what they expected and wanted vs what they got, both for films and for reviews. From one point of view TFN choreography (even mine) is laughable compared to what's out there in amateur film. On the other hand look at something like Mukiai, done by professionals, and try to tell me it's really that much better than all of the Entires here.

No ones complaining. I thought all the entries were OK, some were good, some great. If someone takes the time out to actually put anything together it is an achievment as far as I'm concerned.

But, in order to fully critique each entry, surely you have to be analytical, and so you cant help but compare to the best or worst you've seen.

How can people get better without harsh criticism.

I'm not at all angry about the negative comments. I'm concerned about some of his assertions which I know to be incorrect. As buli said, he seems to come off as an expert, when it's obvious to an educated reader that he is not. He uses is supposed expertise to make obnoxious comments about an entry based not just on his opinion but on his strange assumption that he knows the topic.I'm not going any further. I'll post a very detailed reply to this question after the contest.

I feel bad that this good healthy competition started by Ryan in an attempt to have fun has turned into an arguement...but whatever.

I guess its not an arguement...but people ARE getting mad. Bummer

People have said bad things about my entry but I want to make this a learning experience. So far i would have to agree with most of it, dont get so bent out of shape. All of us that entered should be praised for the hard work and courage to post your work here where it will get highly critized, but that is the only way we will get better at this.

Okay I am done with my 2 cents.

If someone already said this, forgive me.. but I felt like commenting right away..

"...especially knowing that nothing could ever beat the likes of RvD."

... I think something(s) already has(have). But that's all a matter of taste I suppose... but point being, it wasn't perfect. Neither are any of the entries this year.. but they ARE the one's we should be talking about. wink

They can't be "perfect" because the choreography quality is largely subjective -- otherwise, by now, Yuen Wo Ping or someone would've done the "ultimate choreography."

Tumble, I don't think I'm defending Dorkman...did you see the spat we had in another thread?

The fact is everyone is entitled to their opinions, negative or not. I remember last year Dorkman grilled the entry I was in, actually many did. Its a review, its his opinion, and it doesn't matter how he gives the review or what attitide is gleaned from his write-up. Its up to you to take what he said or disregard it.

Like if this is how its to be then I won't post my own review, and thus why I am defending the right to review any such way.

I review video games part time, and whereas some games I praise much, others I have given poor reviews. Its part of media, its part of life.

*Sorry for going off topic if indeed I did.
