no ones mad dude, it's always fun.
Although, people are going to get pissed if their harmless film is slaughtered! Criticism is part of growth.
Imagine how George Lucas felt after Phantom Menace was reviewed! I bet he cried himself to sleep face down in his official Jar Jar Binks pillow!

You're not supposed to know who did what entry yet.

If I see one more post trying to find out who did what entry in this competition, I'm going to start visiting offender's homes with sharp steel and a sawed-off, with my wife managing the torture equipment.
RESPECT THE RULES!
No one is supposed to reveal who did what until
AFTER THE CONTEST!
*calms down*
Sorry... but this is really beginning to get on my nerves. That, on top of the fan boy worship (get a life) and the whining about harsh reviews (what part of "This is a competition." don't you understand?).

Plain and simple. If you're looking for a pat on the back, do a math problem. Those are either right or wrong.
I mean come on. I show my work to my family all the time. However, I never take thier critisism because they always say it's great, and I can't be sure if their lying through their teeth or not. I'd rather people told me like it is. You're only a true friend if you tell it like it is. This is why my friends come to me for advice on their work. I may not be an expert in their music, or for whatever they do, but they've told me that I say it like it is, and they like that.
For example, one of my friends, he composes music for video games and has a band. He's actually come out and told me that he always likes me to review it. I'm not an expert at music, but because I apperantly have an ear for it and I tell it like it is. I was never afraid to tell him I don't like some of his work. He just takes the advice and works on it.

Yeah, I tried that "tell it like it is approach" when my sister asked me what I thought of her nasty Christmas dessert - lets just say I ended up wearing it!

There is a fine line between constructive and destructive criticism, and it's really hard to tell which side you're on.
I think it's pretty clear. It's just that for some people "constructive" seems to mean "mostly positive."
For me "constructive" means "describe what the problems are as you see them, and provide ideas as to how that can be remedied, when not immediately apparent from the description of the problem itself.
You bring up a couple of valid points from a filmmaking perspective, but for the most part you seem determined to bash the entry at every opportunity on its stunts.
How things seem, and how they are, are not inherently the same.
I don't know much about wire rigging, actually next to nothing, but I know what looks good, and what works on film, and from the rough footage I can see that for the most part, as a finished work, this would look pretty good.
I disagree.
You, on the otherhand, approach the whole scenario from the viewpoint of a professional. Is this the case? If so, out of curiosity I would like to know how many years of performing stunts and/or wirework you have under your belt... This would help me better to see where you're coming from, as I'm sure it would anyone else reading your statements and expecting them to be true.
So, you're allowed to hold an opinion based on "knowing what looks good", but I have to have years of experience in wire rigging to make a statement of any kind? That's what you're saying?
Now obviously this isn't my entry... I don't have an entry in this contest. but if I were the filmmaker of that or any of the other entries you've posted about, I might be rather insulted and put off by what you had to say... there were a few positive statements, true, but for the most part... man.... just harsh...
That's how you see it, not how I meant it, and clearly most people here understand how I meant it.
So in the future, and I would say this for ANYONE posting reviews, please, be CONSTRUCTIVE in your critiques, and I do mean just that.
No you don't. You mean "be nice and try to focus on the good stuff." That's not constructive.
picking apart an entry and giving very little positive to work with does NOT help someone do better in the future...
Giving them ideas for how to fix something is what helps them do better in the future.
But, RvD isnt perfect, some of the sabre hits look lacklustre, the part where Dorkman disables Ryan of his lightsabre, never looks strong enough to me, and the part where they fight on the floor, could be faster, and theres definitely a proper kill shot in that scene that isnt utilized (i'm looking at you Dorkman
)
Oh Lord. You want harsh, you should see how I'd review RvD these days.
comments in all of these reviews is obnoxious, and would never pass on any other board but here. It's sad to see so many people coming to his defense. It's like someone standing up in the middle of the room, saying bad things about you and your mother, slapping you in the face, and then you say "thank you."
No, it's nothing like that, tumble. At all. You're taking it that way, but that's up to you, and none of my problem. If you don't think anything I have to say is valid, then just ignore it.
Anyway, I'm surprised and appreciative of the support from others, but honesty and thick skin just gotta go both ways.
Aaaaanyhoo, on to the next ones.

"gotta go both ways"
There's a pun in there somewhere.
Anyway, I am completely with Dorkman on the issue of people not understanding what constructive criticism means. It's a board-wide issue. I say this (and recent threads) warrant a sticky, or addition to an old one. But really a new one would be best.

The fact that the pillow was stuffed with million-dollar bills probably helped him sleep easier though...

Especially with the "thick skin" part.

I should also note that to me, the point of critiquing like this is for the benefit of the filmmakers because I think that they can do better, and their next endeavor will be enriched for taking a look at the issues. They may not agree with me in my opinions, but at least they've considered the issue, and if they do the same thing next time, they know why they chose to do so. As I've said before, in other critiquing situations, I'm doing these because I think
THEY
can do better, not to try and prove that
I
can.

I'm writin' reviews/critiques because it helps better quantify what I'd like to throw on a screen. No sense in complaining about something if I won't do something about it myself...

Well, excuuuuuuse me! /SteveMartin ... Since I didn't enter, I haven't committed the rules to memory.
Seriously, leave the sawed off and sharp steel at home; just send your wife over with the torture equipment, and you won't hear from me again!
